I've just looked at the car's registration documents - it actually weighs 1934 kilos! A lot heavier than my old Audi S8, which weighed 1855 kilos, but was thirstier, due to the shorter gearing.

Siena:

The Audi A8 4.2 V8 Quattro Sport is not as thirsty as the engine size may suggest.

The tank was on empty when I picked her up, I filled the 90-litre tank to the brim, cost £116. I drove from Coventry to Hayes (approx. 117 miles) and only used a quarter tank of gas. Average speed of 83 mph (134 km/h) and average gas mileage of 34.6 mpg isn't bad for a car the size of a bus. The base Audi A8 4.2 Quattro DOES weigh 1855 kilos (that's before extra options). So it's safe to say my car weighs over 1900 kilos.

Problem with an average Nigerian is that they want to eat their cake and still have it. They want a car the size of a Landcruiser and an engine size of Nissan Micra.. Not possible. This is a luxury car and whoever owns this kind of car don't care about fuel consumption. If u want an economy car u can always get urself a nissan micra 1.3L

This is a real uber-sedan,I love everything about it,like someone mentioned,Nigerians in Nigeria hardly drive cars like this. No matter how capable they are, they rather drive a Honda Accord or Toyota Camry.
I think it is okay you leave the tranny the way it is,no need to convert it 'cos the car is supposed to be a highway cruiser.

Let me know when you're ready for the M3. One of my colleagues wants to sell his '04 E46 M3 Coupe for quite cheap, but no good to you, as it's RHD.

elektra80: So Siena even drives an automatic. Where are all those that says only dummies drive auto.. Ikenna et al. They even said dumb americans drive auto and even have a cup holder in their cars. LMAO. Very beautiful ride siena.. I want this someday. But siena.. this car doesn't have a cup holder or is there something I'm not seeing? So where do u keep ur coffee when u need to multitask?

Of all the sophisticated features that this beauty possess, I wonder why you are only interested in cup holders. What an insignificant feature I look for in a car.

Wow! With its sheer weight and engine size, its good to hear that your new found love has fuel economy. Still waiting for the e-champagne.

What else is left to do? The car on its own is luxury, lol. Going through the pages, I see you still want to do some work on it. I guess by the time you are done, you are likely to prefer being in the car than being in the house! Just saying, lool

That made me chuckle! cheesy

Things to do:

Rear monitors in front headrests, so rear passengers can also watch TV or DVD (the front has factory screen).
Alloy wheel upgrade, from the current 8.5"x18" to 10"x20".
Digital TV upgrade. The current analogue doesn't receive any UK channels, since the digital switchover 2 years ago.
AMI (Audi Music Interface) to allow music and video on SD cards to be played.
Facelift front end, comprising of grille, bumper, headlamps.
Facelift rear end, comprising of full LED rear lamp clusters.
Quad-tip stainless exhaust system, from the catalysts back.
More power! Initially a re-map, to increase power to 355 hp.
Big brake conversion, with Brembo 6-pot calipers.
Reversing camera.
LED license plate lights.
LED front side lights.
HID conversion for front foglamps.

The cup holder thing was a sarcasm... its a very simple thing that some automakers skip. I made that comment because I read in a post on nairaland sometimes ago where someone said only lazy and dumb Americans drive auto tranny cars, that they even made a cup holder for them. Get it?

Looool! To make you chuckle was my intention cheesy

But if you have bought a newer model say 2010,if there is smiley, would all these things you want to do to it have been necessary?
Or better put, would all this extras you want to put/do with the car make it as current as the newest version of the Audi A8?
Just asking out of curiosity as I know little or nothing about cars but willing to learn tongue.

Even a 2012 model won't have all options fitted, it all depends on what the original buyer specified when the order for the car was placed. Besides, I like to make my cars individual, so there's always something I'd want to install to make it mine. smiley

Farayolas: I have some kind of feeling that siena is gradually falling in love with auto tranny and moreover is ur new baby fitted with the cylinder deactivation system?

Lol no, not falling in love with auto. I HAVE had autos in the past - my Audi A4 B6 3.0 V6 Avant Quattro was tiptronic, so was my '02 Audi S8. As long as there's enough power on tap, I can tolerate auto. Manuals are much more fun though.

The Audi A8 D3 4.2 V8 does not have cylinder deactivation, allowing it to switch between either bank as an I4.

Fabulous car and brilliant choice. I do like. I had a good chuckle when you wrote that you definitely will not be retrofitting a sunroof and finger print recognition. Personally I always go for both electric sunroof and climate control because sometimes I just wish to shut all windows and tilt the roof for fresh air.

I understand the power differences between both cars but I'm curious as to why you went for the petrol over the lovely 4.2 diesel with fairly
comparable acceleration figures, 479/480 lbs of torque and superior fuel economy.

The kit on your car is mouth watering though. I love that no 2 German cars of the same make and model are the same spec-wise and I also like my cars to be individual.

I love my music and will find it a little niggly that your Audi doesn't come with Bose or B&O. The audio on your car is modern enough to show the tracks on your ipod and I like the old 9ja tracks on your stereo. I struggled to get the same spec on my Mercedes R230 shape and had to "tweak" it a little to see my Ipod tracks and TV whilst keeping it looking like it came out of the factory.

Good car though so ..enjoy.

@ Mlud:

Thanks for your very kind words. smiley

Sunroofs have drain tubes, 2 front and 2 rear. When these get blocked from sediment and similar, rain will leak into the car. The sunroof is directly above the MMI control panel, and vulnerable. So I don't honestly miss not having a sunroof. My '02 Audi S8 had an electric sunroof, but I hardly used it. Climate control all the way! smiley

The 4,2 V8 TDI makes much more torque than the petrol equivalent, but then less power. It's a low-revving unit, and I love the linear acceleration the 4.2 V8 petrol offers. The petrol engine is an all-aluminium block, while the diesel is cast iror. Really heavy, I've driven the V8 TDI, and the extra weight up front is very evident when pushing the car through corners. tongue

The fuel economy side has never really bothered me, and if needed, there's always the BMW 120D M-Sport to take care of that.

Good to hear from another individual who's into quality audio. My car DOES have Bose Surround Sound, so well catered for. B&O was an option, which mine missed out on. To be honest, it doesn't sound that much different to Bose.

wouldn't "Quad-tip stainless exhaust system" mean a new bumper as well?

@Siena

Reasons for your choice of carriage understood.

I do use sunroofs so I have learnt that you can attach a tube to the drain holes and blow the cobwebs and sediments away to allow proper drainage.

I tend to seek a car with a blend of power and economy but it can be quite a struggle. I find it challenging to find all my needs in one car so I keep the Mercedes for power and fun and drive a good tdi for economy/reasonable power as I do about 700 miles a week and sometimes more. I feel like a matyr sometimes but it helps that I enjoy having pedals at my feet and a good engine up front.

I have had a good few Audis with my last being a well equipped A2 tdi. Pocket sized but good fun and economical.

I agree that the diesel A8 is heavier but don't you find that with quattro and anticipating corners you can actually enjoy those long windy roads in an A8 TDI. Less fun in London I know but cool on fast A roads and the Motorway?

I take nothing away from your choice though as you have a lovely car.

Audi will beat Lexus hands down... i don't need a prophet.

I'm always on track. the Germans are the greatest carmakers of all time...

BMWs are the fastest consumer built cars, followed by Mercedes and Volkswagen.
