hello sagamite, i am tryin to choose between three universities, leicester, loughborough and uni of sheffield, please tell me how the atmosphere is like at these universities (are there many black people/nigerians) there and how prestigious each one is considered, which is the best in general? thank you - emeka |
Re: Best School For Masters Degree In The UK? by Sagamite(m): 6:20pm On May 21, 2010 |
^^^^ For reputation, see this: https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-141689.0.html I would not know the population of the black Nigerians there but I can almost be confident that majority of the blacks will be of Nigerian origin. My knowledge will suggest that: The black population of Oxford and Cambridge is around 1% of total student population. For other redbricks, maybe about 3% to 6% overall. Sheffield would sit in this category. Other unis, I don't know. I guess it depends on the region and the Uni. Loughborough and Leicester maybe sits between this category and the above category. |

It is not like covenant university, you don't pay fees for feeding that's up to you, accomodation is upto you too since you are interested in the school one would have expected you to at least check I just checked the website and there is an estimate there |
Re: Best School For Masters Degree In The UK? by kali: 9:33am On Jun 22, 2010 |
dis guy, i've checked their website. thanks, but there are schools abroad, whereby the student pays for feeding and accom., that was why i was asking. |

kali: The reason I asked that question is that I was wandering how you want to attend Uni in the West (where your course will require research skills) but cannot use the internet to search for a simple a thing as fees for tuition and accommodation. But you can come on internet to ask others to do it for you (something not complex and needs no specialist knowledge)? You could also not spell Aberdeen? And you want to go to Uni, most likely as a postgrad? Fck me Lord. |
Re: Best School For Masters Degree In The UK? by Sagamite(m): 6:44am On Aug 09, 2010 |
Dis Guy: Yes, bruv, I do. One can easily go into Consulting, Internal Strategy, Planning, Research (Market or Policy), Banking, Operations Management and a few more quant-dependent and process-dependent careers. |
Re: Best School For Masters Degree In The UK? by Sagamite(m): 6:50am On Aug 09, 2010 |
tek1: I am pretty sure you will be able and allowed to rent it for one year. They only displayed it like that (37 weeks) to let people know they are allowed to rent it for term times only, not for the whole year. This is for students that want to return home on holidays. There is no way a UK uni will burden its students with accommodation problems during their studies. They make it priority to make life easy for their students in UK. In some Unis with big campuses, they sometimes even provide free, frequent bus rides across each part of the campus. They look after their students. |

Thanks!!!! But can you please tell me on what basis are you suggesting SALFORD. I need merits and demerits of both universites. that would help me more ! |
Re: Best School For Masters Degree In The UK? by Nobody: 6:06pm On May 27, 2011 |
I meant run from Salford. Salford cons Not especially highly rated with no industrial affiliations of any sort to speak of. Aberdeen You can argue that there are schools better than RGU, but it has excellent industry links and is based in Aberdeen, the oil capital of Europe |
Re: Best School For Masters Degree In The UK? by Sagamite(m): 11:00pm On May 27, 2011 |
rooneyA: If you are doing anything with Oil and Gas or Petroleum there is no point wasting time going through any merits or demerits between the 2. RGU wins hands down. |

Thought I'd add my few cents here, especially for those planning to study oil and gas related courses: Imperial College remains the most recognised, however its tough to get into, very expensive as well, program very theorectical and very intense, if you dont have solid engr background, stay clear Herriot Watt, in my opinion is as good as imperial, very reutable program, i place their program side by side with imperial RGU, their course are very broad and not that intense in terms on theory, however they have close alignment with industry, dont be suprised that RGU has very employment rate, as high as the best univs in the UK (according to online stats) dont know why, all I know is most RGU grad get jobs Stay clear of the following, Salford, London southbank, they are new programs and people dont quite trust them yet, beter not to waste your money People study subsea engr at cranfield and Univ of Aberdeen, having been an ex subsea engr myself, i dont think the program is neccessary, maybe ok for people already practising in the industry, but certainly not for newbies Dont focus on the UK only if you are looking into the oil sector, UK oil sector is fast dimisnishing, growth areas remain US, canada and Australia to name a few (ofcourse sensible countries where i think naija people may live to live and study) Any questions regarding that industry, just hit me back |
