DailyPost just learnt that the Kaduna State House of Assembly Speaker, has been impeached.


Report says 18 Assembly members of the house have elected Shehu Usman Tahir as the new Speaker in the afternoon.

I have not known Kaduna House as one of the troubled Houses in recent times. Whether this is connect with the Southern Kaduna saga, am yet to ascertain.

The Speaker of Kaduna State House of
Assembly, Alhaji Usman Gangara and his
deputy, Dr. Mato Dogara and other principal
officers have been impeached by 18
members of the house of assembly on the
instructions of the state governor Mukhtar
Ramalan Yero. A source present during the
impeachment stated that it was done
removed in a commando style by 18 out of 34
members.
The 18 members loyal to the governor upon
arrival at the assembly complex first chose
one of them, Philemon Usman as protem
speaker, after which he presided the house
and subsequently masterminded sitting that
led to the emergence of Shehu Usman Tahir
as Speaker and Philip Adamu as his deputy
respectively.
The rest members of the house including the
former Speaker and his deputy stayed away
from the meeting, having been briefed that
the 18 members have sealed a deal last night
to remove them with a simple majority,
without forming quorum.

Why Lagos Deputy Speaker was
impeached

Lagos – Indications emerged yesterday on why
the former Deputy Speaker of Lagos State House
of Assembly, Adefunmilayo Tejuosho, was
impeached.
Tejuosho was on Monday impeached for gross
misconduct bordering on undermining the
authority of the House as well as disrespect to
the House and violation of House rules.
Meanwhile, a source at the House of Assembly
who preferred anonymity told Vanguard that
Tejuosho could have been impeached long ago
but for the intervention of personalities in the
state who prevailed on members to sheath their
swords.
The impeachment was carried out, Monday, at
an emergency sitting where another Deputy
Speaker was nominated.
The emergency plenary which was scheduled to
commence by 10.a.m did not start until 3.30
p.m. due to the executive meeting in the office of
the speaker.
Speaking under personal explanation, Onibiyo
Adelabu, Chairman, Committee on Local
Government Administration reported to
members how he and members of his committee
were manhandled at Odi-Olowo Ojuwoye Local
Council Development Area (LCDA) when they
went on examination of projects.
The impeachment notice was signed by 30
members and when the speaker, Adeyemi
Ikuforiji, put the matter to vote, 28 lawmakers
voted in favour while three were against with
one abstaining.
Reacting to the letter, the speaker of Lagos State
House of Assembly, Ikuforiji said he was not
happy about the impeachment of Tejuosho,
saying he needs to confirm from members those
who wanted Tejuosho to be impeached.
The speaker said: “It was sad for me because
this is the first time that a principal officer is
proposed for an impeachment. My hands are tied
because 30 members have signed the removal.
Immediately after, Bola Badmus-Olujobi was
appointed the new deputy speaker of Lagos
State House of Assembly.

Whatever inspire these people and their cheer crowds must not be the focus of our national discourse, but the implication(s) of their actions to the wellbeing, or otherwise, of the populace.
