"if anyone sees his brother commit a sin that does not lead to death,he should pray and God will give him life. I refer to those whose sin does not lead to death.

Verse 17
All wrong doing is sin and there is sin that does not lead to death.

So my question is,which of the sins does not lead to death.

The sins that the Catholic Church call "venial sins."

First of all it is pertinent to state that the death in the verse is not physical but spiritual that is; eternal separation from God. I will take it from the angle of the sins that leads to death. These can be grouped into two

1) not believing in Jesus; this is the sin that the HOly spirit reproves the world of this primarily concerns the unbeliever.

2) the second is rejecting Jesus after being saved. This is talked about in heb 6:5. This includes blasphaming the Holy Spirit which can only be done by someone who is mature in the faith.

All other sins i believe do not lead to death because they have been atoned for.

if you had read from verse 16 of that chapter, you will notice it wasn't stating whether the sinner confessed or forsake the sin rather it was showing that some sins are greater than others. If it is a mortal sin( greater sin) it will not be forgiven by other peoples prayers but if it is a venial sin, someone's prayer can bring forgiveness to the sinner.
But because we can't clearly state the boundary between these two categories of sin, it is better to flea any appearance of sin.
