Lamido, Shekarau, NLC, CNPP, Others Say NO To National Dialogue by bappahman: 3:43pm On Oct 13, 2013
If President Jonathan thought his
announcement of his intention to convene a national dialogue would help unite Nigerians and reduce the cacophony of opposition against his every move, he was mistaken as more and more prominent voices have continued to kick against the proposed dialogue.
Already the Kano governor, Rabiu
Kwankwaso, as well as former Lagos
governor, Bola Tinubu, have kicked
against the conference. The Jigawa State governor Sule Lamido said that his state would not participate in any such dialogue because it is
unconstitutional. In an interview which was broadcast by Radio Freedom based in Dutse, the Jigawa State capital, Lamido said if the conference ever holds, Jigawa won’t send any delegate because there are already democratic institutions which are constitutionally empowered to address the issues which the dialogue is supposed to address.
“This proposed national dialogue is a
flagrant abuse to democracy. We have the
Senate and national House of
Representatives that are legally and
democratically elected to represent any
constituency in discussing any national
issue.
“Are you going to ask [Prof. Attahiru] Jega
[chairman of Independent National
Electoral Commission] to organise election
for those that would participate in the
dialogue, which I am sure he would not
accept to do, or are you going to select
them through nomination to go and take
over the responsibility of elected ones?
“So the idea of the dialogue lacks formula
in our democratic society and embarking
on such worthless venture is not ideal,” he
said.
Even the Nigeria Labour Congress is
unconvinced by the proposed dialogue
because they just do not trust President
Goodluck Jonathan to be able to make a
success of it. The NLC through its vice
president, Issa Aremu, disclosed that it
harbours doubts over the sincerity of the
president.
“The challenge, among others, lies in the
sincerity of purpose and the capacity of the administration to hold a meaningful
dialogue on a national scale.
“If the president, his men and women
cannot resolve the university crisis, given
the existing country’s robust labour laws
and rich collective bargaining and
dialogue traditions, what trust can the
nation put on the administration to handle
a national conversation on more knotty
issues of national development?
“The president, governors and legislators
were elected to deliver good governance
they promised. They should not take cheap refuge in a so-called national dialogue they never promised the electorate in the first instance. It’s also about keeping promise and faith with the governed,” he said.

Also, a former governor of Kano State and
chieftain of the All Progressives Congress
(APC), Ibrahim Shekarau, said that the
proposed conference is an attempted
hijack of the functions of the national
assembly.
In an interview with the Hausa Service of
theVoice of America (VOA) in Kano on
Sunday, Shekarau echoed the opinion of
his successor in office, Rabiu Kwankwaso,
when he said, “There is no sincerity in the
proposed National Dialogue. Jonathan is
looking for what will divert his attention
from his total failure and their party crisis.”
The Conference of Nigerian Political
Parties (CNPP) on its own part described
the proposed dialogue as a bridge to
nowhere. Speaking through its national
publicity secretary, Osita Okechukwu,
CNPP said the conference might be
hijacked by ethnic merchants.

As long as d GEJ is in support of National conference the north will automatically oppose. But, they will support it if GEJ opposes it. It's all about GEJ n his decisions in this country. The opposition will never see anything Good in his moves. I pray nija n I pray for GEJ too.

See Confab wey Senate President don even first voice him support. Which other institution is this aboki-born-to-rule man talking about?
We must determine collectively the existence of this union- Nigeria. Enough of monkey-work-baboon-chop.
(NB) NLer's we call these guys aboki, but dem know wetin dem dey do. Checkout the skewed resource sharing, Nigeria's political structure etc. These abokis want status quo to be maintained, ofcourse its in there favour. I dont blame Tinubu, he is a sycophant,a pharisee, a fair-weather friend.

Trut: Why are the notherners afraid of National Conference?
they afraid because they know they have short change other regions and don't want any avenue where the anormaly would be addressed. They are afraid that free rainfall of allocation that they never worked would be cut short. They are afraid that regions. Which they have marginalized and terrorized would use the opportunity to put an end to their wiCkedness. They are afraid of sovereign national conference!!!

Everywhere in the world….villages, towns, hamlets, cities, people groups are asking for autonomy to enable them take charge of their affairs and develop at their own pace. For instance Bosnia Herzegovina has a population of less than 4million but today they are a country of people governing themselves and making progress in various areas of human endeavor.

To the best of my knowledge all Northern Muslim Hausa-Fulani States claim a population of over 4million each. Yet they are very scared and very unwilling to agree to the restructuring of Nigeria so that each geo-political zone can take care of its affairs and develop at their own pace.

Just mention the word Sovereign National Conference and you will find these Governors, the Emirs, the Sultan, the Arewa Consultative Forum, and the Northern Elders Forum - all of them shivering like dogs with their tails between their legs.

Instead of making it an issue and a strive for power to return to the Northern Muslim Hausa-Fulani in 2015 ….. the Northern Muslim Hausa-Fulani should be asking for the restructuring of Nigeria in a way that enables them to enjoy autonomy and develop at their own pace with one of their own (preferably Buhari or Sule Lamido) as their leader. That way the power they are clamoring for will remain with them forever ….. in their geo-political zone, from their geo-political zone and for their geo-political zone. ...... makes more sense than the entire "New PDP", PDM & APC crisis.

I was not taken aback by this sinister move from these disgruntled elements up North, in fact I knew they will kick against it but they are trying to be sly with the move, very soon other voices will rise to support them it's a question of time. The North knew they have benefitted more from our common patrimony than other regions and the convocation of a Sovereign/National Conference is the only panacea to that injustice, hence, their expected dissident voices. Unfortunately, it is TOO LATE! cool

They have tried so hard to frustrate the event and bring majority to dere side but dey lost yet again, so dey decided to use "GEJ credibility/sincerity" as a point now and also involving NLC which don't 4get majority of its members supports d dialogue, rather than come to d media and embarrass demselves yet again they shuld bring out issues, help make sure GEJ stand by his words and also help involve its people in d NC. Out of d 6 geopolitical zones, every zone is to bring a uniform delegates of 20 each.
The delegates wud be selected independently by der various zones.
The resolutions will be signed into law d same way unitary system was signed into law.

Ok
Do u think 20 ppl can ably represent the diverse ppl of the Niger delta or the multy tribe North East?
And how do u share the 20 delegates
Will lagos hav the same delegates with ekiti?
Will bayelsa hav same with rivers?
Do we have any law that empowers a group of people other than the National Assembly to make laws?
