sorry, already got a cover.

I want to know does anyone know about text effects in Word. I want to design the headers in my work, as well as the pages in general; to give it a standard appearance, as opposed to the ordinary, Word, plain-text look that it carries now. What type of people offer such a service, so we might meet?

My book is live now. I faced some challenges:
first, i couldn't upload my content and so i moved the file off my flash to the system and i was successful. Btw, it was in Word format, the system advised against PDF.
Second, i unknowingly chose "public domain work" option so i couldn't opt in for the 70% royalty plan. When i decided to settle for less; 35%, i couldn't also publish my work. I shoud've chose the "not public domain work, i retain all publishing rights" option. Until i realised my mistake.

Let's talk about promotion deals. Apparently we have to promote our books ourselves. I thought KDP does all the marketing?

I am considering making my book available for preorder. What are your thoughts on this? What has been your experience?

I haven't had time to study preorders so I can't give an opinion now. I still use free promotions for my new books and also to stir up some of the old ones.

@mk82, please how do i know my book passed copyspace test. I pasted my book content and clicked search several links relating to my book came out, does that mean that it failed the copyspace test? Or what? Thank you in advance.

Your book failed the test if results came out. Rewrite the affected portions and test again. The aim is to see 'No results found'.

I typed in the title on google search engine and another book with the same title came up. I didn't feel bad; my book is new, but i was surprise. Then i went to amazon and typed in my title and, voila!, my book is listed(with the best cover btw). This is the link to my book www.amazon.com/dp/B00OHRA336
Re: Making Regular Income Publishing Amazon Kindle Ebooks by Zico0(m): 8:04pm On Oct 16, 2014
i have a little concern though: amazon.com added $3 to the price of my book. I don't understand. It makes the price a little bit prohibitive. Though, i don't doubt the book can pull it off: it such a nice book. Brief and precise. But i might have to reduce the price.

Take this as constructive criticism:

Your book cover is horrendous. shocked

A publication aimed at "success" and "value" should first strive to present itself in that manner.

Example: If you were walking down a street, and a bummy looking dude with raggedy clothes, unkempt facial hair and an overpowering body odor stopped you to give you what he described as "invaluable tips on personal hygiene, self presentation and success," what would be your reaction?... exactly.

While that bum might in fact hold the key, his appearance would ultimately deter others from giving him a chance.

Your book cover is more important than you think. If you don't have design skills, get a professional to make one for you.

Good luck.

You don't have to agree. Your organic sales numbers will give you the hint. Good luck though.

The question is why i should send you a PM. If you have a question or something, feel free to ask here.
I generally don't use Nairaland's PM or email request or whatever that thing is.

Of course my individual opinion may not directly affect your project.
However, you're failing to look at the bigger picture.

People often fail to recognize valuable input at this stage of their game, until they have paid the price of time.

My input is only an honest review of your book cover, which I'll say again - is horrendous.

Not as a diss to your efforts, but the stark reality which your target audience WILL be faced with.
You either acknowledge that fact and revise accordingly, or you don't.
As i said before, your organic sales will reflect that - sooner than later.

I am not some random individual shitting on your work. I have worked full time as a Business Specialist for many years at the biggest telecommunications company in the world. I also own a full service Media production company here in the U.S and in Nigeria, among other things.

Trust me, i know a thing or two about these "things."

I might talk random crap often when using this website's (Na Laugh) Nairaland account - but do not discount the value of my advise.

I'm sure your book contains valuable information, however, you have to "convince" people from the get-go.
Remember that old cliche' - "Don't judge a book by its cover"? Well, unfortunately almost no one abides by it.

Good luck.

As much as I hate to critique, I am afraid Nalaugh is right.
First off the cover and the book is horrible in many ways
1. The picture does not relate with the content. At first, I thought it was a book on Family.

2. The background color is sent from hell. I could not see the title. Mind you, I wear glasses as well as a million other people who may view your book.

3. The position of the title in the cover is stressful on the eyes. The font used made the cover look like a cheap novel. The color combination made my eyes watery.

4. The price is too high for an unknown author like you. $12 is too high for an ebook even for famous authors in the self help genre. To add insult to injury, it is only 30 pages. Haba!
If you want to justify your high prices, link your book with createspace.

5. God! Who wrote your book description? That person must be the one doing you. The sentences are incoherent, lack consistency and appear jumbled. I did not understand a word. Oyibos are lazy oo..

6. Which kind name be Esomething Ezekiel? It does not sound like an Oyibo name. They won't buy the book with that penname.

7. The motivational self help genre is the worst for Indie authors. Why? Because the people there want free information and those that pay do it only for bigname authors. Trust me, I have been there. Check this link for proof.
www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00LJKSOJE?ie=UTF8&at=&force-full-site=1&ref_=aw_bottom_links
That was my first ever published book. As you can see it is not selling.

8. That it is even out of the question. Amazon placed your book in the wrong place. It is listed under SCIENCE! SCIENCE!!!

Correct me if I am wrong mk82 , NaLaugh. In my opinion that is worth two cents,
This book was doomed before it was published.
I beg you as someone who has done all this mistakes before, biko, ejoor, si'vu plait, in the name of God,
Fire your ecover designer and the person that wrote your blurb. They are wicked. Very wicked. They must be jealous of your success. Fire them with prayers if you must. Kai! some people are wicked in this world. *shakes head and crosses elbows*

However, if you want, at least take any one of the ecovers below. It is simple but at least it looks professional. All the images are free and are in the public domain from pixabay.com. You pay me nothing but walk away with an ecover. I am giving you for free

First, very terribly; as you guies opined, my cover image is poor. I'll have to do better on that.

Second, my surname is my surname and i'm not going to abbreviate it. Like i said earlier, its either a success or a total loss.

Third, i don't think it's about the lenght. My title is not a story book. It is truth. Science is true before it is complex. Besides, i don't think i'd like to read 600 pages on an ipad. I'd rather get a hardcover book.

Fourth, a statement is very complex in the book, as sophistication is complexity not "longevity"; and so is the description. I see i didn't paragraph appriopriately, asides that the description is perfect

If readers are lazy then they are not ready to win they should not get a copy. They should read romantic novels instead. In addition, i thought lazy went with short but sophisticated.

Are you freaking kidding me?
Have you checked other books similar to yours on amazon?
If you did that and found any 30 pages ebook selling at $12, then please take the ecovers above, free no attribution required, as my sincerest apology.
This is not me telling you that it is impossible for your book to sell because "those who want to win" know better than to buy a book with a poor cover and description.

Lemme be frank. I am a book addict. I have countless motivational books that are over 200 pages. I've buying motivatinal books since I was 13.
So tell me Zico0, why should I buy your book?
I have bought Think & Grow Rich for $5. I know every motivational gimick. So what makes your 30 pages ebook so unique that will make me buy it for $12?
Give me a great reason and I will buy it, promote it and get my friends to buy and promote.
