As part of his efforts in ensuring participatory governance
and bringing government to grassroot, the Governor of
Ekiti State, Dr. John Kayode Fayemi has appointed a former prominent student leader as his Special Assistant on Students’ Matters; an office which he hopes will bring
about a working relationship between the Government and the Governed. It would be recalled that Dr. Fayemi, the Ekiti State Governor, had promised to choose among three nominees presented to him, who have got impeccable antecedence and of proven integrity, during his interactive session with the Student leaders at a parley about two months ago. The
governor has thus fulfilled his promise in making history,
by not only creating such an office but also confirming the
appointment of Adeolu Oyebode as the most preferred.
By the virtue of the appointment, Oyebode sets history by
becoming the first Special Assistant on Students’ Matters in
Ekiti State and also the youngest Special Assistant in
Nigeria.

He is in his mid twenties.
Oyebode was the Chairman of National Association of
Nigerian Students (NANS) Joint Campus Committee Ondo
and Ekiti States, between 2008 and 2010, a position which
gave him the opportunity to negotiate on behalf of
students and youths of Nigeria with Governments and
institution administrators both at Local, State and National
level and also a member of prominent youth organizations
In Nigeria.

As at his appointment, the Ikere-Ekiti born activist is the
Ekiti State Coordinator of Socialist Youth League and the
director of programmes and planning of the International
Youth Congress of Nigeria, the Nigerian charter of
International Youth Congress (IYC) Inc. – United State of
America (USA).

While reacting to the appointment and the history made,
Oyebode said it was dedicated to the constituency that
produced him.
“I give glory to God for the history made, as defined by
you, but the fact remains that I return all accolades to that
Students’ Constituency that produced me, there is every
possibility that I might not have been considered for this
assignment if I wasn’t produced from the students’
activism constituency and definitely, the confidence
reposed on me by the students who are left on campus
that made my recommendation must not also be dashed”
“I see this task as an assignment of my life; I must not fail
these young ones, my principal Mr. Governor and my
generation because of tomorrow”.

Congrats †̥☺ the young man.
Hope he won't fail the youths like Dimeji Bankole and those numerous NANS guys who sold their consciences for a pot of lentil

Creation of unproductive offices and you call this 'history'?
SMH for misplaced priority!

Alao Akala also had a young man as one of his advisers.
I wouldn't call this a record yet.

Its because we now run gerontocracy(government by the elders);that's why we today celebrate the appointment of a 28year old as special assistant or adviser to a state governor.
In the second republic,Pat Utomi was a special adviser to the president at a much younger age. Gowon became the Head of state at the age of 30 while Ojukwu and other like generals were 31.
Fast forward to today's Nigeria, can you get a general in his late 40's? Can a 35year old man dare think of contesting for the office of governor.
The age bracket for public and political offices keep going up because the youths have refused to take their rightful place in the workings of this nation. They instead prefer to come on social media to abuse and insult each other at the slightest opportunity while their grand father's age mates share the nation. The youths have refused to be serious, that's why the appointment of a 28year old is seen as legendary.

What exactly has this guy achieved?
I understand the youth bit of the matter but being union president is not an achievement.
Many people stay away from these student union types because they see in them ,all that is bad in a typical Nigerian politicians .
Of all the ekiti youths(I know one who earns $1100 a day) doing serious jobs, why do we like settling for something that is familiar.

Can this guy for example run an intellectual commentary on the budget of ekiti state and Nigeria ?

Can he reconcile the needs of the state with the resources at her disposal ?

What ideas does he have on how to move the state forward especially regarding the stay-away indigens ?

I hope that I am wrong ,but this guy is probably no different from the others
Empty ,loud and fxcking nauseating .

Yeah! I applaud the governor for involving youth in his administration, but i dont see the appointment as a legendary, because Gowon was a head of state at a prime age also, i think it was around 30+ or so, and what about Dimeji Bankole? I just hope the trend continues, so that we can have more youths in governance of the country, perhaps, it will lead to the positive changes we desire in this country.

Congrats to the guy and i chage him not to go there and disgrace the youth o by joining those old people to milk this nation dry. May God help you.
