G-5, APC Merger Fallout:npdp Reps Abandon Their Govs by ochejoseph(m): 10:17am On Nov 29, 2013 |
Members of the “new PDP” in the House of Representatives have begun a systematic retreat from the party following the defection of five of the G-7 governors to the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC). Governors Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers, Murtala Nyako of Adamawa, Rabiu Kwankwanso of Kano, Ahmed Abdulfatah of Kwara had on Tuesday dumped the PDP and announced their merger with the APC. But in a surprise move, members of the House of Representatives from these states, who overwhelmingly pledged allegiance to their governors when they moved to form the nPDP as a faction of the party, have now made a move seen to be for the protection of their interests. The lawmakers of the nPDP and mainstream PDP yesterday met as a caucus in a closed-door meeting presided over by the deputy speaker, Hon. Emeka Ihedioha, and leader of the House, Hon. Mulikat Akande-Adeola, where they decided that it was time to take steps to protect their stakes and in the overall interest of the country rather than follow the commands of their governors. After discussions, they resolved that the way forward for them would be to meet with President Goodluck Jonathan next week to discuss on how exactly they could work out the crisis in the party without anybody being hounded. “We discussed as one party. There was nothing like new PDP and old PDP. The main thing we discussed was how to dissociate ourselves from the crisis within the party and the defection by some governors to the APC,” a lawmaker who craved anonymity stated. When asked what has changed since the last time when they supported their governors’ decision by signing up for the nPDP, he said: “We know what we want for ourselves. Some of us are not really into the crisis but we had to show loyalty to our governors.” Another major issue that was raised at the meeting was the need to change the point man between the presidency and members of the House. They said he was not reliable in his dealings on their behalf. It was thereafter that they resolved that the House, led by the speaker Hon. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, meet President Jonathan to have a dialogue with him on their demands. “Part of our demands is to know specifically what is in it for us, if we decide to give full support to our great party,” the lawmaker added. Hahahaha am laughing at those waiting for impeachment when the governors were disobeying the leadership of the party some kids were urging them on. Now is the turn of lawmakers to disobey their governors. Waiting for their usual childish and naive political analysis. 1 Like |

I knew this was going to happen. Most of those governors are the most hated creatures in their respective states. Nyako- most despicable human that ever govern any one in Nigeria. Amaechi - $48 million private jet in a 1 city state. Saraki lackey- Liberation at hand for Kwara people. Political liabities. |

No member of the national assembly loyal to ameachi will join this reconcilation. Because their problem is not with the national PDP. It's with the state PDP which wike has taken over. If they don't stick with ameachi and destroy the PDP in rivers state, post 2015, they'll have no political future. 1 Like |

Do you expect all the Reps to follow their respective Governors into political wilderness? In the same manner, the G5 shall become G4 shortly - watch this space |

If they don't stick with ameachi and destroy the PDP in rivers state, post 2015, they'll have no political future. Please tell them. Rivers State is very peculiar in this merger. Wike has PDP in his hand and there is no way Sen. Abe and Rep. Dakuku will remain in that party. Already Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly who is a political son to Sen. Abe has openly endorse the Governor's defection. For those of you. Who don't know, all Rivers State 26 lawmakers and NASS members including 22 LGAs chairmen held a meeting with the state existing APC leaders to elect an interim chairman, who happens to be a one time commissioner of special duties during Odili's tenure and has been in CAN since Amaechi took over Government. The caucus meeting of the PDP members is coming too late, they would have done this before now, instead of allowing the likes of Gulak and co to misrepresent them. They even admitted that their leaders at Aso Rock were selfish, if you read that paper. Meanwhile, I have seen several national media given a figures of NPDP members as 13. That's false, is 10, bacause Rep, Chikere, Chinda and Betty are not with Amaechi. |
