Hot air. Taken from your repertoire of religious put-downs.

Why don't you address the issues before you ? You have not answered one single question posed of you ?

No no. You sure know most of their accounts are not the same. If there is one source, then what this person writes shouldn't be different from what the other writes.

Men may list what they consider to be mistakes in the Bible. However, all Scriptures is given by inspiration of God (2 Timothy 3:16); every word of the Lord is pure. Therefore any seeming "mistakes" are there because God has put them there, and they are therefore not mistakes. In time, we will find that the "mistakes" are actually ours.

"The words of the Lord are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. You shall keep them. O LORD, you shall preserve them from this generation forever" (Psalms 12:6-7).

God's words are unique to the point that they are like a rope that we can use to get out of jail or we can use it as a hangman's noose if we so wish. Happy New Year my broda! cheesy

hmmm.. Oh christendom! Luke didn't say he was inspired by God or holy spirit.

'' the word of God is pure'' of course the word of God is pure( and should be pure) that is why God won't go out of his divine wisdom to reveal to us 10 cases of inbreeding, for what? also see ezekiel 23.

'' seeming mistakes are there bcoz God put them there'' how? Why?? Why will God put them there?? To cast doubts in the minds of people? I don't understand.

'' in time we will find the mistakes are ours'' of course na! The mistakes are ours not from God. Men wrote the books, so men made the mistakes not God. But if truelly God inspired them( as acclaimed by many) then there shouldn't be any mistake or seeming contradictions. What God inspired luke is different from what God inspired mark or others on the same incidence. Read jeremiah 8:8

''psalms 12:6-7'' unfortunately christendom hasn't been able to preserve the word of God that is why we are having seeming/glaring contradictions, inconsistencies, various different versions and so on.

Here are the words of Desiderius Erasmus, Dutch humanist, catholic priest and theologian who was responsible for unifying the Greek and Latin traditions of the New Testament which he did by producing each volume simultaneously, drawing on all the Vulgate manuscripts as well as Greek manuscripts. The third edition of his volumes became textus receptus which is what the KJV is largely based on.

But one thing the facts cry out, and it can be clear, as they say, even to a blind man, that often through the translator’s clumsiness or inattention the Greek has been wrongly rendered; often the true and genuine reading has been corrupted by ignorant scribes, which we see happen every day, or altered by scribes who are half-taught and half-asleep (Collected works of Erasmus, vol 3, 134)

Incidentally he was the first to point out that 1 John 5:7-8 did not exist in the ancient Greek manuscripts, and was a later insertion, the catholic church agrees today it is in dispute. He polished up the latin in the vulgate manuscripts announcing "it is only fair Paul addresses the romans in better latin"

Remember this antecedent "No one is alluding that the Bible translation is 100% error or contradictions free".

and "Of course, it is riddled with contradictions"

and lastly "Bible translation(s) isn't God inspired - bet you know that much"

All Scripture (i.e. the original Aramaic and Greek manuscripts) is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true et cetera.

Bible translations from both these old manuscripts are not God inspired and so susceptible to ulterior motives, covert agenda
et cetera

These seemingly contradictions, willful insertions, the 1 John 5:7 determined intention to do as one wants et cetera are by products to be wary of

Not many know of the inexactness of 1 John 5:7 (i.e. the insertion bit) grin

I take 2 Timothy 3:16 with a pinch of salt. We have to ask, what was considered scripture at the time the author wrote that verse (either during Paul's lifetime, or as more widely believed after his death) ? we do not have far to look 1 Timothy 5:18:

"For the scripture saith, Thou shalt not muzzle the ox that treadeth out the corn. And, The labourer is worthy of his reward"

The author of 1 Timothy has quoted Deuteronomy 25:4 " Thou shalt not muzzle the ox...." And;
The yet to be compiled saying of Jesus now found in Luke 10:7 "The labourer is worthy of his reward"

At the time the author of 2 Timothy wrote that verse, NONE of the Pauline Epistles would have been considered "Scripture" not even the gospels.

Justin Martyr writing in the mid -second century (around the time of Marcion) informs us :

On the day called Sunday, all who live in cities or in the country gather together to one place, and the memoirs of the apostles or the writings of the prophets are read, as long as time permits; then, when the reader has ceased, the president verbally instructs, and exhorts to the imitation of these good things . . . (1 Apol.67)

We have to wait till the middle of the second century for the first Christian Marcion to compile the first NT canon.
The implications are clear, "scripture" at the time of writing that verse consisted of the Deuteronomical canons, the writings of the prophets and selected sayings of Jesus.

Lastly, problems do exist with the "original" manuscripts (there aren't any originals) They are only as good as the intermediary, there are huge contradictions for instance, the Gospel of Mark does not agree with the Gospel of John about the time or day and events leading up to Jesus' death, both cannot be right. If one of them got it wrong, it does tend to make you wonder....what else they got wrong ?

For me though, 2 Timothy 3:16 is solid as a rock inasmuch as if "Scripture" is the Pentateuch, the writings of the prophets and sayings of Jesus Christ.

To me, that is Scripture - the original manuscripts

Gospel of Mark and the Gospel of John can be allowed some degree of leeway. You weren't expecting a 100% verbatim, were you?

For me, the Spirit of truth, the Helper which assuredly was promised, steps in to guide one into all the truth and teaches all things

You surely aren't any of the sheeple dozing and sticking to the status quo

Actually I am not really surprised by the contradictions and inconsistencies in the Gospels. The problems arise because we take the narratives out of their historical context. The individual narratives were written to specific audiences, for instance, early Christians who believed in the overriding validity of Jewish law used only Matthew, Those who believed Jesus was not really the Christ, i.e the Ebionites read only the Gospel of Mark (this explains why there is no birth narrative in Mark), Those like Marcion and his followers who believed the God of the Old testament could not possibly be the same God of Jesus used only a version of Luke.

The Book of John with its high Christology, (John 1:1), was used mainly by Gnostic sects, The author of John ascribes pre-existence to Jesus as opposed to actual birth, it is easy to see why John has Jesus killed on the day of the Passover, it is the only Gospel to describe Jesus as "Lamb of God" in effect a sacrificial lamb sacrificed on the day of the passover, as opposed to being killed on the "eve" of the passover as described by the Synoptics.

The theological bias behind each narrative is crucial, once it is understood, the contradictions and inconsistencies melt away, clearly they are not meant as historical accounts per se.

Finally, there were many more Gospel accounts, however, the erstwhile Bishop of Lyons Irenaeus declared, in his famous book Against heresies, against Marcion as well as other groups of Christians;

it is not possible that the Gospels can be either more or fewer in number than they are. For, since there are four zones of the world in which we live, and four principal winds, while the Church is scattered throughout the world, and the pillar and ground of the Church is the Gospel it is fitting that she should have four pillars . . . (Against Heresies 3.11.7)

And there we have it, four completely contrasting Gospels decreed by Irenaeus.

Your submission(s), sire, to a certain extent, have demonstrated what separate the men from the boys

An awakening or paradigm shift to realisation is needed before it is too late

Thanks, a gentleman and a scholar.

Here's another seeming contradiction in the Bible.

"And they that were with me saw indeed the light, and were afraid; but they heard not the voice of Him that spoke to me" (Acts 22:9).

Some skeptics may say that this is an contradiction in the Bible, because in Acts 9:7 Paul said that those were with him heard the voice.

However, John 12:29 gives us insight into what God's voice sounds like. People heard His voice but thought that it thundered. They obviously heard it but the words were not coherent to them.

Some folks have been hearing it thunder where God had been speaking loud and clear. cool
