dejibimbo: my answer is stil 2100...the question is dosed with ambiguity....so u cant tell me exactly what is right or wrong...its all dependent on the interpretation u give it...we all know 2+3+2+5=12, thats clear nd nt ambigous...but the OP is based on perception nd interpretation...#myWORDS

lol there is nothing ambiguous in the OP, all you need to do is brush up your comprehension skills, if its the word "another" that is giving you proble, then just check what it means in the dictionary and you will find out you are expected to perform same action as previously.

The problem is that people like to complicate things themselves, how on earth will someone equate "take" with "take away", smh!!, the word another followed by 1000 is enough to tell you the first 1000 should be added

This is elementary maths(although tricky) and if you are still arguing that the answer is 2100, you may need to check if you really worth the level you are. *so offence intented*

The only different answer a person is expected to get here is 6000 which is of course caused by the trick in the question, anyone getting anything else is either misinterpreting the question or confusing himself but my contextual and logical analysis, you will find out there is no way take means take away.

adediranta: saw this question on an IQ test website last year...the answer is 4100..."take 1000" is the keyword there

check the question you saw and you would notice there are just 4 1000's but the op reframed his question by including another 1000 to make it 5 1000s, so read the op thoroughly before concluding on your answer, its different from those flowing online.

Lol it amuses me how people fail to read questions thoroughly but just jump to answers

Here is the question that has 4100 as the answer:

This riddle must be done IN YOUR HEAD and NOT using paper and pen or a calculator. Try it!

Take 1000 and add 40 to it. Now add another 1000 to it.
Now add 30. And another 1000.
Now add 20. Now add another 1000. Now add 10.

What is the total? SOURCE

Compare it with the OPs question and learn.

nothing ambiguous in the op, all you need is to brush up your comprehension skill and think logically.

So if you met this question in an interview, you would say the interviewer can't tell you what is righy or wrong smh!

bastien: I hear,ma ansa na still 4100
op is confused, the answer is 3100. Take 1000 means minus 1000
That will be -1000+40+1000+30+1000+20+1000+10+1000

The first sentence said it all.......TAKE "1000" it mean take it way,and if its taken it will be 0,the plus 0 to the 40,and others

I hope u understand now!
take doesn't mean take away. Take (or as u say say take away from what?). State staring position, and state take away when you want it subtracted).

Two fathers and two sons sat down to eat eggs for breakfast. They ate exactly three eggs, each person had an egg. Explain how it's possible

or maybe you are the one confused, how can you say take means take away??

Ok let's assume take means take away, it means anyone can assume his/her initial figure and so we would all get different answers.

So I might assume an initial figure of 5000 and so take away would mean 5000-1000; poooooo.

Read and understand the question, you will see the reason why you are expected to add the 1st 1000.

lol, I can't believe people are finding this too hard.

Grandfather, father and son = 2fathers and 2 sons.

If each of them (grandfather, father and son) takes one egg, that's three eggs in all for 2 fathers and 2 sons grin

the answer is 4100 because you were not asked to add the third 1000
the question only said "then another 1000" not "add another 1000"
that's the trick

lol, I didn't even form the question, if you read through this thread from the beginning you will find out its an international question which I only edited slightly, what you think is the trick is not the trick, its only your misinterpretation. Ask those who choose 6000 as their answer what the trick is.

"Then another 1000": No intelligent student will doubt that this means add another 1000 after reading into context, infact this shouldn't be the question arising at all except you don't know what the word "another" means.
