tempest01: The riddle is not about the maths, it's about what's missing. There's a missing word... Remember the instructions was not to use pen and paper or calculator... Riddle is all about logic, something we normally call "number 6" or "common sense" ...Btw, everyone's entitled to their own opinion. My answer is my answer, not yours... Kabish? |

bastien: sorry I made a mistake,I was fast typin,I wanted 2 ryt 4100,if read d quest,u will see take 1000 and add 40,u are not suppose to add the 1st 1000Hey, beat it, when they say take 1 and add 1, what does it mean? It means take 1 + 1=2 We were right to add the first 1000. Thats maths language. You said: take 1000, add 40 to it. Remember that its the first 1000, so you must bring it. If you had written it at the middle or end, it would have meant minus. The answer is 5100 1 Like |

unmask: you or your teachers need to be flogged..... Have you heard of negative integers? Or that integers are a subset of real numbers?......... It might be wrong to add real numbers and integers in your programming without parsing, but in maths it is perfectly legal......................Lol.I tink d guy is writin too much program to deal with real maths [quote author=unmask] nd he's confusin integers with natural numbers. |

Re: Maths Riddle by Nobody: 9:12am On Dec 19, 2013 |
Ossai famous: This guy just exposed a trick, the word ANOTHER plays a very big role in this maths puzzle. Another means to perform a similar action as previously or to follow a previous format. So those saying take 1000 means minus 1000 are very wrong because you would notice, the OP later said Add ANOTHER 1000 which means you were expected to add the first 1000. Whenever you see another in a question, just perform the similar action as previously, for example if you are told to add 1000 first and then told, another 1000, it means you should also add that 1000. I think this is not much of a maths puzzle but english. The correct answer is 5100 2 Likes |
Re: Maths Riddle by 360degree(m): 9:13am On Dec 19, 2013 |
Take =-1000 and add +40 to it. Now add another +1000. Now add +30. then another +1000. Now add +20. Now add another +1000. Now add +10. And then add +1000 the riddle is TAKE represents minus(-) and ADD represents plus(+) shikena. pls let me know if am wrong? = -1000+40+1000+30+1000+20+1000+10+1000 = 3100 |

captivating:You also must understand that the question is to solve a riddle. That mean think outside the box. While using maths principle also do some logical reasoning which makes you thinking outside the box..... the question is not the conventional arithmetic problem. |

The only trick I see in this is that it forces people to make up tricks where they don't exist, just like I have seen in the posts so far. |
Re: Maths Riddle by emmyskies(m): 9:30am On Dec 19, 2013 |
Seriously?? You guys seem to amaze me. Dont you know your maths language again?? As simple as this. This is common addition. Wetin dey confuse you na the language you go use to try to confuse us. But let me tell you, maths is one language that is spoken all over the world. Maths here is same elsewhere around the world. The first take is to bring the 1000. If it had been not at the starting of the sentence, then it would have meant minus. Maths is maths anywhere. Learn to use maths language well pls so not to cause confusion. Capiçhè? |
