Nyesom Wike And Governor Amaechi Trade Blames Over Rivers Crisis by LoverBoiSwag: 7:26am On Dec 22, 2013
As the political crisis in Rivers State continues without abating, the Supervising Minister of Education, Mr. Nyesom Wike, has described Governor Rotimi Amaechi as a dictator.
Wike also alleged that the governor had made it difficult for the state legislature and judiciary to function. He, vowed that the state executive of the Peoples Democratic Party led by Mr. Felix Obuah would not leave the state secretariat of the party as allegedly directed by the governor.
But the governor maintained that his (Amaechi) actions had not portrayed him as a dictator, even as he insisted that Wike was the real dictator.
Speaking at the 9th anniversary celebration of a Port Harcourt-based newspaper, National Network, published by Mr. Jerry Needam, the minister said Amaechi was planning to take over the building housing the state PDP secretariat.
Wike, who won the National Network Man of the Year award asked why the building was not taken over by Amaechi’s administration when Mr. Godspower Ake was the chairman of the state PDP, adding that the party will resist any attempt by the governor to take over the building located along Aba Road.
“Amaechi’s leadership style is responsible for the non-functional judiciary and legislature in Rivers State. You cannot talk of good governance, without the legislative and judicial arms of government.
“We have three arms of government. The only arm of government that is existing today in Rivers State and very soon, it will go into oblivion, is the executive arm of government. They have killed the legislative arm and have also killed the judicial arm.
“Without these two arms of government, what you will have is dictatorship, because these are the two arms of government that will check the executive. Killing the two other arms of government shows the level of dictatorship in Rivers State,” the minister added.
He said the governor wanted to conduct local government elections in order to impose his (Amaechi) cronies on the people of the state.
Wike said, “Let Amaechi continue to shout one man, one vote. I am faster than Amaechi. He wants to conduct local government election to impose his cronies on Rivers people.
“Amaechi is claiming not to have houses in his village (Ubima in Ikwerre LGA of Rivers State) and Port Harcourt. We know where Amaechi’s houses are. Amaechi’s commissioners and other aides are also building mansions all over the place and the governor is keeping quiet.”
The state governor disagreed with the minister and described Wike as the real dictator.
Amaechi, who spoke through the former Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Mr. George Ukwuoma-Nwogba, expressed optimism that Amaechi would soon be vindicated, maintaining that the truth would prevail.
“The minister is the real dictator, who has made things difficult for Rivers people. the state governor has proven to be a gentleman.
“Wike cannot be accusing any person of being a dictator when his actions have made it impossible for the State House of Assembly to operate,” he stated.
