There Is Hope In Nigeria’s Future –jonathan by kglamour(m): 3:37am On Dec 24, 2013 |
President Goodluck Jonathan at the weekend expressed hope in the future of Nigeria and urged the elite to build on the progress the country has achieved. He said as a people, Nigerians could not be pessimistic about themselves and their history, rather, the elite and youths should emulate the likes of the late Prof. Kenneth Onwuka Dike who established that Nigeria and Africa had a very proud history. Jonathan spoke through the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Martin F. Uhomoibhi at the launch of ‘Trade and Politics in the Niger Delta 1830 to 1885 by Prof. Dike and ‘The Inverted Pyramid by Chief Emeka Dike. The event which held at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs was organized by Chief Emeka Dike, the eldest son of the late Dike. Eulogising Prof. Dike, Jonathan said he lived at a time and age when it was claimed by foreign authors that Nigeria and Africa had no history. But Prof. Dike “provided us with the first positive African narrative and affirmation,” establishing that “Nigeria and Africa indeed had a very proud history.” Jonathan noted that Prof. Dike successfully argued that the history of Africa and Nigeria must not be judged or acceptable from the point of view of written words, pointing out that history was multi- disciplinary. “Dike insisted that the history of Nigerians and Africans just like other races, can be found in their anthropology, archeology, linguistic and in their way of life. The president believed that Nigeria had made huge progress and Nigerian elite and youths should propagate the affirmative Nigerian history the way Prof. Dike did in his time. “We can be who we want to be,” Jonathan said. He appealed to Nigerians not to consider only the challenges facing the country, but to also look at the progress being made. “Building on these progress is the secret of development and growth,” he stressed. Jonathan said the present generation of Nigerians owed a depth of gratitude to Prof. Dike for providing the first Africa positive narrative and affirmation. The president recalled the efforts of Prof. Dike at the establishment of the National Archives as a formal institution with branches in Ibadan, Kaduna and Enugu. He described Prof. Dike as a great son of Africa, a bold and pioneering scholar, cultural nationalist and a far-sighted institution builder and administrator. Earlier, Chief Emeka Dike had, in his address, said: “In order to plot a successful future for Nigeria, we need to find a path, that is inclusive rather than exclusive, and one that makes more efficient use of Nigeria’s undoubtedly abundant natural resources, and incredible human capital, acknowledged the world over.” http://sunnewsonline.com/new/national/hope-nigerias-future-jonathan/ http://naijapolnews..com/2013/12/there-is-hope-in-nigerias-future.html |

Kairoseki77: Over 60% of everything President Jonathan say are through Proxies, 30% through rumours, innuendo, body language, gossip, etc. Only 10% is spoken by the president himself (through his own lips). |

egift: You would have simply say, "Jonathan should sack all ministers, governors and aides, and do everything by himself because he is the President". @ egift, I know you don't have any practical experience in leadership but I believe you must have read from textbooks the principles of leadership. Why not refer to your textbooks when in doubt? |

jamace:You need to realise that when a country is going through challenging times like Nigeria is at the moment, the President voice must be the first and final point call on issues bothering on the state of the nation. For him to have key government figures falling over each other with fraudulent numbers, budgets, etc, is indicative that He is not the one in control of the central government. I will use the missing billions from the NNPC as an example. The minister of finance and CBN governor gave the Nigerian nation and indeed the international community two conflicting figures. If the president knew how damaging and far reaching such misleading information is, he would have stepped in, after very quick deliberations and provided the correct data and reassure the nation and our key development partners that He is sure not mismanaging the wealthy of the nation. Alas, did that happen? Absolutely no! So, gentlemen to keep your textbook leadership to yourself. As with most Nigerians, we are good in the head theory wise, lack substance one the practical front! |
