Breaking News: FG To Create 18 New States – National Conference by eazydon(m): 11:14pm On Jul 03, 2014
The ongoing national conference sitting in Abuja has recently made some major adoptions including creation of eighteen more states and one additional state to bring the total of states in Nigeria to 54 plus the FCT.

Delegates voted overwhelmingly on the proposal that each state of the federation should have its own constitution which of course would be subservient to the Federal Constitution.

While agreeing that the Constitution should be amended to allow for less onerous process for state creation, Conference specifically approved the creation of an additional state for the South East zone, “in the spirit of reconciliation, equity and justice.”

As soon as the unanimous decision was taken, the hall erupted in celebration as delegates from the South East went around shaking hands and thanking other delegates for their support.

Henceforth, it said state creation should be on the basis of parity between the geo-political zones to ensure equality of zones.

On the creation of new states, Conference said such aspiration must be backed by the potential viability of the proposed state in terms of economic potential, human natural and material resources as well as minimum land and water mass.

The envisaged state, delegates agreed, must have cultural and historical antecedent, with strong cultural affinity amongst its population while the component should be contiguous.

In addition, Conference adopted the recommendation that for any new state to be created such a new state must have a minimum population of one million persons.

Conference approved in principle, the eventual creation of 18 additional states across the country as a way of meeting the yearning and aspirations of the people.

Below are some of the adoptions:

-Confab agreed that each zone should have nine states bringing the new states to 18 altogether.

-Conference rejected an amendment that the total number of states in the federation should not be more than 55;

-Confab agreed that in the spirit of reconciliation equity and justice, there shall be created an additional state for the South East zone

-On the basis of parity between the geo-political zones to ensure equality and justice, states should be created.

-Confab agreed to create 18 new states viz, Apa frm Niger State, kainji frm Kebbi, Katagum from Bauchi, Savannah frm Borno, Amana frm Adamawa

-Gurara frm Kaduna, Ghari from Kano, Etiti from South East, Aba from Abia, Adada from Enugu, Njaba from Anambra & Imo, Anioma frm Delta state

-Ogoja from Cross River State, IJebu from Ogun State and New Oyo State from the present Oyo State

-Any new states should be economically viable or potentially viable. should have human and natural and material resources

This does not look good at all. They went around congratulating themselves? Because they know how much it would reflect in their pockets. Anyways, they should pray we all survive 2015. If BH doesn't turn Nigeria to ashes .

Good! At least, I'm getting closer to my dream of governing my state. smiley

Indeed, those who know about the hegemonic effects of some towns or cities on others will never go against this idea. Marginalization is alien to democracy. Everybody should be respected and given equal avenue to operates.

I keep wondering when a non-indigene of Ibadan will have that privilege of becoming the governor of Oyo State again. Akala actually did but those people frustrated him. If no be say dude sef na thug.

Good intention. But then, will state creation really solve our problems as a nation? I doubt it.
