Read the Vacancies page in any Nigerian newspaper.

Adverts for jobs for doctors are the only one that do not ask for 5-10 Years experience in a similar post.

Whereas......adverts for jobs for (non-medical) graduates usually require several years of experience. Even the jobs available for fresh grads are 'TRAINEE graduate'' type...with no solid guarantee that you would get the job at the end of graduating.

Sigh.
Re: Most Preferred Courses In Nigerian Universities by emenim(m): 1:30pm On Jul 06, 2014
So in order words there is basically no space for the future ambitious doctor to come, if only thirty four(34) universities offers such an important course. No wonder there are limited doctors to take care of the ever growing population in Nigeria, and they can afford to go on strike too without looking back

Most students that were withdrawn from medical schools sought for other courses and excelled in their newly chosen fields.
The withdrawn medical students always do well in other departments they eventually find themselves. They always finish with first class or second class upper.

FrancisTony: The third and the highest level of tertiary education in Nigeria is the University.

There are presently 124 universities with Federal and State government controlling 37 each while the Private sector controls 50. Applicants have over 570 courses to choose from each categorized into Faculties.

There are some courses that have enjoyed consistent preference; I have used both Applicants’ choices in both JAMB 2013 and 2014 to show some of these courses. These obviously would help those still in Secondary schools and future JAMB applicants know how competitive a course is before finally locking their choice down on it.

From my findings; Medicine & Surgery is the most sought-after course in the whole of Nigeria universities.

Also, out of the whole 124 universities; only 35 offer Medicine & Surgery, 16 Federal, 14 State and 4 Private universities respectively.

Other top 15 courses are
1) Accounting
2) Economics
3) Business administration
4) Mass Communication(CLA)
5) Computer Science
6) Law
7) Political Science
cool Microbiology
9) Biochemistry
10) Nursing/Nursing Science
11) Pharmacy
12) Mechanical Engineering
13) Civil Engineering angry
14) Public Administration
15) Elect/Elect Engineering
16) Petroleum Engineering

Is your write-up in the order of preference or most sought for? If yes, then it shall not be well with whoever has deceived you this far. Yes, medicine & surgery is one course great no. Of candidates plunk in to study but unfortunately, thier intake is always minimal. I myself had tried it severally but didnt work out thus i ported to other science inclined courses. After medicine, u need no one to tell u law has inflock of great no. too. Engineering follow suit, then management (esp. accounting) has the highest no., then u can think of other ones mostly science inclined e.g. Microbio, geology/geophysics, chemistry etc.
