FrancisTony: What so special about this Medicine and Surgery Nigerian students are rushing to study? -_- #vexed Read the Vacancies page in any Nigerian newspaper. Adverts for jobs for doctors are the only one that do not ask for 5-10 Years experience in a similar post. Whereas......adverts for jobs for (non-medical) graduates usually require several years of experience. Even the jobs available for fresh grads are 'TRAINEE graduate'' type...with no solid guarantee that you would get the job at the end of graduating. Sigh. |

So in order words there is basically no space for the future ambitious doctor to come, if only thirty four(34) universities offers such an important course. No wonder there are limited doctors to take care of the ever growing population in Nigeria, and they can afford to go on strike too without looking back |

Danhumprey: I wonder o! But wetin the rest of them turned into? Most students that were withdrawn from medical schools sought for other courses and excelled in their newly chosen fields. The withdrawn medical students always do well in other departments they eventually find themselves. They always finish with first class or second class upper. 1 Like |

FrancisTony: The third and the highest level of tertiary education in Nigeria is the University. Is your write-up in the order of preference or most sought for? If yes, then it shall not be well with whoever has deceived you this far. Yes, medicine & surgery is one course great no. Of candidates plunk in to study but unfortunately, thier intake is always minimal. I myself had tried it severally but didnt work out thus i ported to other science inclined courses. After medicine, u need no one to tell u law has inflock of great no. too. Engineering follow suit, then management (esp. accounting) has the highest no., then u can think of other ones mostly science inclined e.g. Microbio, geology/geophysics, chemistry etc. |
