The crisis rocking Nigeria's Medical Sector is yet another political miscalculation of the PDP towards 2015. Here is what we know so far:
1. The issue of leadership and appointments in the Medical sectors and in the Hospitals has been very clear precedence for decades.
2. The Doctors have not taking action on this until JOHESU and the PDP Politicians start using the positions in the Medical sector as a bargaining chip for favour.
3. By a large margin, JOHESU members are larger than the number of doctors. And the PDP want to exploit this numeric advantage. Today Federal Ministry of Health, the Federal Ministry of Labour and Productivity, the Registrar of trade unions, and the Attorney-General of the Federation are now joining JOHESU in suing the NMA to see if they can declare the strike illegal.
4. If not for the political interest of this present administration, the strike by the doctors will not even be on, because the most of the issues are very straight-forward.

Like every other issue and challenges confronting the country, instead of confronting and resolving this matter, the Jonathan led government is forming deaf and dumb including exploiting every trick on its sleeve to circumnavigate the issues.

As for JOHESU and their members, if they want to share the role of the doctors and enjoy its benefits as well, they should simply go study medicine in school.

As for the Politicians, do not endanger our Healthcare System by using it as a bargaining chip, awarding "Consultants" and "Directors" positions like contracts and don't use Health Sector as a tool for votes. Resolve these issues, Patients are dieing.

For the Doctors, am glad sanity is being demanded. Do also consider the offers on the table for the sake of your patience.

And finally, Nigerians must endeavour to select competent leaders and call them to other whenever they start neglecting their obligation to the people.

If not for the government hunting for votes, the request by Joint Health Sector Union (cleaners, nurses, pharmacies, lab technicians, gate men, etc) will not be an issue.

- How can you hand over management of the hospital and Nigerian health administration to people who have limited medical knowledge and experiences.
- By making them Consultants and Directors in our hospitals, their decisions over rule those of the Doctors. If a doctor say "Remove the bandage in 4 days", and the "Consultant" Nurse say "No leave it for 6 days". - Whose instruction is obeyed?
- If made a "Consultant Nurse", it means when a patient comes to the hospital, the Nurse will see the patient and make prescriptions. What training do she have to make that decision?
- If you want to be addressed as a Doctor, Consultant or made a Director - Go and study it and be trained.

No matter how long you serve Tea in an Aeroplane as a hostess, you will not be called a Pilot.

BTW, all that the Nurse know is what the Doctor thought him in school. The Nurse's entire scope of study and training is a fragment of what the Doctor was trained.

Those that missed their opportunity to become a Medical doctor can always retry going back to school.
