Many individuals tend to ignore the fact that hypotension exists and it looms. Most people only have surface details about most common, ‘Hypertension’ and they somewhat think its all there is. Well, as a e-Microbiologist, i very much disagree and i have taken the pain to put down a few information an ordinary man could easily comprehend.

What is Hypotension?

Firstly, I would define what blood pressure just before we know wheather its hyper or hypo.

Blood Pressure can be best described as when blood is forced to push againts the walls of the arteries as the heart pumps out blood.

Hypotension in haematology(Study of blood) can simply be defined as low blood pressure. This hypotension occurs mostly in the arteries of the systemic circulation. Also when hypotension occurs in the arteries, it can be either systolic(Forcing blood out of the heart between contractions) or diastolic( filling the heart with blood between contractions). However, Blood pressure is considered too low only when there are noticeable symptoms.

Hypotension is obviously the direct opposite of hypersion(high blood pressure). Hypotension is best related to as a physiological case not as a disease and in most times, is related with shock.

For some people who exercise and are in top physical condition, hypotension is merely a good sign of been healthy.
Also, some people with excessively low blood pressure can cause dizziness, fainting or is a sign of serious heart/neurological disorder.

Severely low blood pressure can deprive the brain and other vital organs of nutrients/oxygen which can lead to life threatening situations such as shock.

What are the Symptoms?

The cause of Hypotension is mainly dizziness and lightheadedness but if the blood pressure is sufficiently low, the will lead to fainting and often seizures. Other symptoms include:

I. Chest Pain
ii. Irregular Heartbeat
iii. Profound Fatigue
iv. Stiff Neck
v. Blurr Vision

What are the causes?

Hypotension can be caused by low volume of blood, medicine side effect, anemia, heart problems.
