Yes! It is a sin to question the bible. Questioning the bible shows disbelief in God. If you don't totally believe in God and Jesus christ of course, you can't get into heaven.

Some Christians think that if you ask them to use their reasoning faculty, you are asking them to lose their religion so they dig in and call white black and black white, Truth becomes lie and lie becomes truth.

When you point put what is obviously wrong which challenges their long held view, rather than concede, they make up all kinds of excuses why the bible does not really mean what it says. And they would insist that it really means what they say. However, Christians should be “open to reason” (James 3:17 RSV), Christians should “reason together” (Isaiah 1:18) and “he who hates correction will die” (Proverbs 15:10).

Moreover, good Christians should not lie or appear to lie in order to defend the bible. "But let your word 'yes be 'yes,' and your 'no be 'no.' Anything more than this is from the evil one." ◄ Matthew 5:37 ►

2 Timothy 2:14-15:"Keep reminding God’s people of these things. Warn them before God against quarreling about words; it is of no value, and only ruins those who listen. Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth."

The bible is simply a collection of 66 disparate books that was bound together by the treaty of Nicea in 325 AD under the then roman emperor Constantine. At least 300 other books were alleged to have been burnt by the Order of Constantine. It contains quite a number of things and stories that defies logic and common sense.

There were false prophets during Constantine's time and false prophets now. Christians should heed Jesus' admonition, he knew of many false prophets during his time and predicted that more would come:

"Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world." 1 John 4:1. If you follow sheepishly and not ask questions, how would you discern the false prophets as Christ warned?

God gave us a mind and a brain to think. While questioning, you find answers to the unknown. I think the problem is doubting if its true!

frosbel: Brethren , just a small thought here. When we encounter difficult passages, errors or contradictions in the bible, are we to ignore them or investigate the discrepancies.

If the later, is it then a sin to challenge these issues by careful reanalysis of impacted doctrines and religious statements.

Please let me know.

"This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth but thou shalt MEDITATE therein day and night..."

To meditate means to think deeply and deliberately, to cogitate about something. If the Bible were so straightforward, what would you be thinking about? God is all about teaching us His language so that we can speak it with Him and to creation in eternity. Therefore, we should work our brains under Him to figure out the knots all over the Scriptures. There are very many, I assure you. And they are all deliberate.

Edit: Having said all that, it is never wise to start from the arrogant position that something is wrong with the Bible because some expectation of yours is not met by it. Questioning the Bible's inerrancy is not the same as investigating some apparent contradiction in it to attempt to understand what it is saying to you.

Challenge? Careful reanalysis? With your sense knowledge or spiritual eyes?
When will people understand that the bible wasn't made for their analysis and reanalysis? Its either u believe it or not, not otherwise.

If you see bible as inspiired by the Holy Ghost as the bible said, you won't sit and be be reanalysing so it all goes down to what you truly believe and how you believe what you believe.

If you truky believe in the one who inspired the bible, your own is to study it day and night, understand it and learn to live by it, not to question what it says. If you have questions, study more cus the bible has all the answers

I do not feel obliged to believe that the same God who has endowed us with senses, reason, and intellect has intended us to forgo their use and by some other means to give us knowledge which we can attain by them.

The Brain is meant for reasoning and questioning everything is part of that so if that is a sin, we would probably have to remove our brains then and walk the earth like brainless zombies then

I told someone yesterday night that I don't completely believe the bible to be absolute truth and accurate.

The honest truth is just that the more knowledgeable you are, it becomes hard to follow religious dogmas, some are just absolute ridiculous abd this is why atheists are increasing day by day.

Atheists are increasing by the day because religious followers refuse to accept the truth even when faced with the evidence, they will stubbornly cling to myth.

The Bottom line is that their Pastors and Imams have put serous fear into them so that they tow the line of the group, sect or cult without the ability to think independently. It's call herd mentality.

questioning Bible, well to me, if truly you are led by the spirit and you are working in spirit of God, i dont think questions will come forth cause i believe everything will be clear to you even beyond your reasoning. But if you are reading Bible for reading sake or you are trying to sport out some error or comparation then questioning of Bible will come forth. Well asking a question about the context is not a sin but level of spirit you are in God
Re: Is It A Sin To Question The Bible ? by kevinado: 3:01pm On Aug 03, 2014
It isn't really wrong if u question the scripture ( as long as u are doing so with an open mind to know the truth). The bible says that u shall know the truth and the truth shall set u free. John8:32

These truth can only be gotten when u ask questions which will eventually lead to the process of studying. This is a good thing. The same scripture also admonishes one to "study to show yourself approved unto God...." 2Timothy 2:15. These will help u become a better christian.

However, every question has the right answer. So in asking your questions ask the one who has the right answers to the questions. Ask God for answers to questions you have about his words and He will gladly explain them to u. Afterall, it's his words that you want to understand better.

I became a better christian by asking him questions from the scriptures that I wasn't too clear about and he taught me like a baby through his holy spirit.

I believe the reason you have some questions about the scripture is simply because you don't understand some things. So, u need understanding first before u can comprehend some answers (revelations) that he will give to u which will eventually lead to more increase in faith. So, before u ask your questions, u need to ask first for understanding from God.

There is a prayer point that apostle Paul prayed for the Ephesian church in the book of Ephesians 1:17-18. It says

" 17 That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him:

18 The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,..."
King James Version (KJV).

It's a good prayer point for every christian who desires to understand the scriptures better. You can go ahead and personalized the prayer point.

U are blessed!!! wink

Goshen360: I'm mostly (not in all cases though) with you in not being dogmatic about doctrines. Every Christian is to question (by questioning, I mean, asking our teacher, the Holy Spirit questions and\or our ministry teachers) what they learn or are being taught. Every Christian is to investigate thoroughly every verse and line by line.

You won't believe how I'm being to spot errors out of what I've been taught as a young Christian when I started investigation many scriptures, using word meanings as used in context. Christianity is further made easy for me and living the life of the Spirit is freely flowing in my Christian life.

It is religious spirit that often raises alarm when somethings are questioned. Whether the one questioning is right or wrong, it is important for the other party to take a look at what is said and consider it. But most will rather believe their MoG is right and cannot be wrong because they feel such MoG is anointed, so cannot be wrong.

I join hand with you, frosbel in the Spirit to call on every Christian on this forum to begin to investigate every scripture, dig into it and question things we're taught when we're young Christians. Many will be shocked what they will discover.

I believe one of the best tool to use to investigate bible verses as used in context is the bible concordance that tells us what the original words meant in context.

The worse is that some Peeps even join some MoGs to castigate other denominations, saying they are not real christians. Correct me if I'm wrong are we not not supposed to Judge...please we have just one heaven and one Jesus, weather you are Redeemed, Winner, Anglican, Catholic, etc..we all serve one God!

some questions

- how was it possible to put all the animals in noah's ark?
- why can't tithe be challenged?
- tower of babel, please explain?
- david killed for another man's wife and his punishment was the death of a child?
- solomon is the wisest man that ever lived, he had over 600 wives, yet we are told it is wrong to marry more than one wife. is it that solomon's wisdom was incomplete?
-why so many genocides in the bible? and why do pastors still use same passages to preach to us? e.g the killing of the amalekites by saul
- Abraham was the most faithful yet he was given the chance to sleep with his wife's maid. why don't pastor's advice women to do same?

Goshen360: @ oluwamitomisin,

1. The questioning of this statement are:

a - If Christ actually came to fulfill the law, why do we still need to keep it?

b - How do we actually understand what is said? that is, what is meant by "Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets" vs "I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil" because, this statement seem like a contradiction to some practices Jesus violated certain laws of Moses. However, we can also question or get answers to why violations to those certain laws is no sin by Christ because there's no law stating any regulations concerning those areas. E.g: The law said people like the woman caught in adultery should be stoned to death. The law only made provision to those who're caught in adultery but didn't say nothing about anyone who forgives one caught in adultery. Therefore, he didn't allowed the woman to be stoned, violating that law of who's caught in adultery but the law concerning whoever let go who's caught in adultery, there's nothing said on that so we can't press charges on where a law is absent.

2. The investigation leading to understanding on what was said in context is:

a - The bible is not first written in KJV but originally in Hebrew and Greek
b - We should investigate the words used and their meanings vs what is said.
c. Misunderstanding comes from reading into text rather than seeking meanings in context to get understand plus the questioning.
d - I always use the Greek and Hebrew word meanings and key them back into the context, plus the questionings and reasoning with the Holy Spirit to learn the truth.

So, let's see how we can put all these together.

I don't buy the idea of quoting bible in verses, I always read from the beginning of the chapter at which the quotation is taken from, it helps me to understand the particular thing that the verse is pointing at. Sometimes the story in that chapter is different from what the MoG is talking about and that most times brings contradictions between Christians.

Coming to the text you quoted: "Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets" vs "I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil". Most of my christian friends tells me that the Law that God gave Moses is no longer relevant for us Christians because Jesus has abolished the Law of Moses. Anyway that is what they learnt from their MoG quotation when he/she is trying to defend his church doctrine or trying to condemn another church's doctrine. Some MoG has gone to the point of condemning Old Testament just to condemn another church doctrine, but the same MoG will use the Old Testament to preach for people to pay their tithes.

God told the man what to write. God spoke through the man. The same way Christ entered a man's body so he can die for sins of men. For men to be able to understand God, God has to speak to them in ways and mediums they can understand. cool peace.
where are the sixth and seventh book of Moses and why was it removed from the scriptures? Are they hiding anything from us?

Questioning an interpretation giving to a passage of the scripture by a person or church is one thing while questioning what is written in the scripture is another thing. The latter is bad. Its only those who wants to ridicule the scripture that does it. Frosbel be sure you are not guilty of this.

We can't use the old testament to interpret the new for Christian doctrine. The same way you said some of these men of God will condemn old testament but use it to justify tithe collection. These men will kill the truth of Christian doctrine for bit-by-bit truth. We must stand to the truth of the Gospel.

I don't know where you get this idea from that folks use OT to interpret the new. What we rather maintain in this forum is that the OT reveals principles of NT in types and shadows, highlighting prophetic timings so that saints of old acts on these to prosper and increase spiritually and physically.

It is a valid fact that the OT scripture was the bible for the new testament church for atleast 20 years after the death of Christ. The bereans checked the OT to verify the preachings and teachings of Paul the apostle. No where is it written that christians should discard the OT. What you should be saying is the New Testament reveals the New Covenant, and supersedes the Old Covenant. So it is an incorrect thing to insinuate that OT cannot be harmonized with NT for doctrine.

Let's see what scripture has to say on these:

2 TIMOTHY 3:16 (Paul)
16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in
righteousness:

(Romans 15:4) "For whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.
