The government of Ogun State and the Labour Party, LP have engaged in verbal squabble over an alleged plan by the government to arrest LP leader in the state for allegedly inciting the students of Olabisi Onabanjo University, OOU, to protest against the government.

While the LP is accusing the government of planning to arrest its leaders for allegedly inciting the OOU students to demonstrate against it, the government described the allegation as mischievous and unreasonable, noting that LP leaders were just looking for ways to be heard.

Speaking through a press release by the Director of Media and Publicity of the campaign organization of one of the governorship aspirants on its platform- Gboyega Isiaka, the party said ,“We heard it on good authority that a meeting was held at the weekend in Abeokuta where some LP leaders were pencilled down for arrest.

“We are not afraid of being arrested because that will only show the public the extent of desperation of this outgoing government and its plan to clampdown on opposition before the 2015 general election.

”It has started with the students unions; we are also ready to employ all legal means to resist intimidation or oppression from a sinking government.

“The truth is that our leaders that they are planning to arrest knew nothing about the decision of the students to publicly condemn the obnoxious policies of this government, especially the failed attempt to deceive unsuspecting members of the public by announcing the reduction of the tuition fees.

“It is unthinkable that a government that claimed to have the mandate of the people will suddenly lose its balance and proscribe a Students Union instead of engaging them in a meaningful dialogue.
