Ahead of the 2015 general elections, Leaders of Awgu Cultural zone in Enugu state Sunday dissociated themselves from the zoning of the governorship seat of the state to Nsukka cultural zone by the Caucus of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.
In a communique issued at the end of its maiden summit organised by the Save Awgu Forum (SAFE), an umbrella body championing the course of Awgu people, with political, religious and traditional leaders as well as the academia and private sector operators in attendance, the people lamented their age-long marginalisation in the state and vowed not to play second fiddle anymore.
In the 11-point communique read to newsmen by the Founder of SAFE, Emperor Chris Baywood Ibe, the people of Awgu expressed dismay that the political configuration in the state had consistently worked against them, noting that 2015 would be their date with destiny.
While reiterating that SAFE remains a non-partisan organisation and has not yet endorsed any candidate for any position in the forthcoming election, the people said the major goal and objective of the summit is to take Awgu people back into the mainstream of Enugu Politics.

The seat wasn't zoned to Nsukka, it is Zoned to Enugu North senatorial district. Ekweremadu will never snell that seat though.

It is time to fight for our collective rights. How could AGWU be sidelined in a democratic society. I have a picture of political positions of Enugu. No Agwu person is currently working or serving in any political office of Enugu state.
