The Lagos State chapter of Peoples Democratic Party on Thursday urged residents to pray for the quick recovery of the former governor and national leader of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, who it said was ill and had travelled for treatment in a London hospital.

The PDP also urged Tinubu’s family and the Lagos State Government to be honest on the state of health of the former governor.

In a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Taofik Gani, the party said Lagosians were interested in knowing the true state of health of the former governor “whose medical bill is being paid with their taxes.”

The party said information about Tinubu’s health would help Lagos residents extend all necessary support to the former governor.

He said, “We wish the former governor, Bola Tinubu, quick recovery as we are made to know from the grapevine that he is ill and in a hospital outside the country. We also feel that the family and the state government should have the obligation to let Lagosians know the actual state of his health.

“It will not be a bad thing if the former governor appears on television or speaks on phone for broadcast. Indeed Lagosians are humanitarian and would readily support him in prayers. Such honest disclosure will also dispel rumours of his death or paralysis that is being spread around”

There have been speculations that Tinubu was ill in London but his aides and officials of his party refuted it.

On his Facebook page last week, Tinubu’s media aide, Sunday Dare, said, “I find the idle charter on some online sites about the alleged ill health of Tinubu as amusing. That some idle minds have continued to perpetuate this absolute falsehood to the point of the ridiculous is disgusting.

“They deserve our prayers for wishing what is not on someone else. For the record, Tinubu is in great shape and his associates who see him and speak with him know this. He is in London helping the APC spread the word about its mission of change. He returns to the country soon and those that wish him dead will be put to shame.”

The problem I have with all this worthless and inept politicians is that they run abroad for medical care while their subjects can't even get a meaningful checkup in a decent hospital. All this is the outcome of corruption and nepotism that is destroying a good country. Hope he gets better if he is truly sick.

These sort of reply just show the blind and unthinking followership that now confirms that Nigerians are probably one of the most distracted and least politically sophisticated people in the World. Do you guys no longer even try to see let alone side with what is decent any more.

Tinubu, unless you are an APC member, is a private individual who is not currently holding any public office affecting you or anyone else who has commented here. You question and demand information about the health of a political leader if such affects their ability to serve you effectively otherwise mind your own business and give others the privacy you take for granted !!!! It is not just to allow ourselves to be herded into intrusive and callous behaviour by the divisive and indecent politics of enmity Nigerian leaders love to rope their followers into.

Tinubu health is a private affair and his privacy should be respected. The man has said, many times, he is well and what we can all see (which is what a decent and balanced person works with) confirms this. He is not infirm as is routinely rumoured these days and he continues, as far as the eyes can see, to function well. What more does anyone want, since some Nigerians don't accept limits of decency, other than to buy a coffin for a man who is getting on with his life while others wish him illness and death daily? The PDP is now overstepping its boundary to be claiming he must be ill without any evidence whatsoever. Should you guys not be speaking against such antics and malevolent intrusion against any one ? Or is it because it is Tinubu and you are PDP supporters then your personal decency is thrown out of the window? So much pettiness in Nigerian politics lately it is no wonder no one, not leaders or followers, talk about weighty and important issues anymore.

I do most of the time but speak sometimes with the hope some will see the obvious and stop disgracing Nigeria with behaviour others will mock as "backwards" and "unsophisticated". Citizens of most Nations of the world don't spend their time forcefully and uncouthly insisting on things they have no detailed knowledge of.

It is then even more wrong when said issues are the entirely private affairs of others. It is just plain wrong and the behaviour of a very backward and unevolved polity. Sad to see such coming from Nigerians who should be focusing on the misrule destroying their nation instead of obsessing over the health of a man who is effectively a private citizen.
