Thank you OP for the Post we really appreciate the update!

How come it is taking this long, 4 years to finish these projects. Peter Obi's mall in Abuja did not take 4 years. We expect all this to be done by 2014 Christmas!

Industries without a checks and balance is destroying Nnewi, the air is polluted with plastic, chemical and oil fumes and trash is every where. We demand that the government do something about helping them with all the smoke and chemicals that are seeping into the water supply through the ground.

One poster wrote about agri-business which is the number 1 way to go. The fish industry is booming in the east, rice and palm oil can dominate Malaysia if we could stop building these stupid hotels, put money together to form corporations and build industries. Let us stop thinking of one man business and partner up!

Other industries like solar power fields where we can not only light the whole state but even sell it to surrounding states. This is a huge money maker and would change Igboland as we know it!
People would pay utilities according to income, some would get subsidy.
Also design a plan and provide the man power to enforce refuse disposal throughout the state.
Ex; In California they collect taxes through utilities to hire contractors to pick up the trash.

We have to reorganize ourselves in the diaspora when we see ourselves investing back home. A hotel or hostel seems easy to run from foreign, but it is always a waste of time, peace of mind and it does attract a dark kind of lifestyle. Every hotel can't be in a Nollywood movie honestly, most of them are just dens for prostitutes, where married business men go and "talk business"
Lets build something that produces something more then disease and unwanted pregnancy, start pooling money together by forming corporations and building sustainable, clean money making industries!

Privatisation of public owned property is usually very messy. I wouldn't trust any Nigerian; including my Igbo brethen with that. I prefer they do their primary work (Infrastructure, planning and security) and use the rest of the money for social security.

I agree with you that it is messy

But considered the rising unemployment (poverty)

@Biafranqueen: The 3 malls and 5 star hotels were all kick-started in the late 2012. The last I checked Agulu Lake should be commissioned in december while the malls should be ready by April next year.

What he is trying to say is that hotels and malls are not where the real money is at.

We should instead be posting all the industries that are producing goods that we are exporting on a global level!
We should be posting pictures of state of the art hospitals and universities with modern research centers.
We should be posting pictures of Libraries and Cultural Centers, Museums etc;

Not employment centers for Ashawo or where foreign goods get dumped, we want real development that creates employment and utilizes the human capital to the fullest!

Is it making sense now?

Thank you for the update, at least we know a date has been set. These type of projects don't take years whenever it was kicked started it was promised the following holiday. So what is planned for these 3 malls and 5 star hotels.
Are they hosting the Presidential Debates or maybe Ms. Nigeria. Are we expecting a influx of people to fly in to shop at the malls. Who is going to stay at these 5 star Hotels by the way. I don't mean to sound some how and I know our new Governor elect is doing a wonderful job of eliminating kidnappers and all, but it will take at least 10 years before we can call this a "Tourist Attraction" area.

My problem, Igbo unemployment issue is very complex given that there are small businesses here and there; everywhere in Igboland. Solving this problem needs a proper economic technician. Igbos have the capital floating around and wasting. What we need is a trustworthy, respect commanding leadership. We lack leadership. All igbo leaders are sellouts. When want to talk economy in Igboland. I will go the way of strong banks. State owned. Bond and shares selling. Encouraging igbos to bank with these banks. Responsible mortgage and lending scheme. None of them have thought of this. They are busy riding bicycle accross our dirt filled streets and gutters.

It is all these kind of threads that provoke me to laughter and make me wonder when Nigerians are going to finally wise up. It is not everything that should be given a tribalist bent.

@Topic,

I won't celebrate yet until all those blueprints/uncompleted projects become reality and Nigerians begin to enjoy their benefits. It's not enough building structures and embarking on projects which won't have any impact on the generality of the people. Rather, emphasis should be on priorities. Are these malls or hotels the primary need of the average man on the street? Who are these projects intended for: the select and elitist few (who obviously are the ones who frequent malls and hotels) or the average man on the streets whose basic needs of shelter, food, and safety have not been met (and who, unfortunately, are in the majority)?

This is not an hatred post, just pointing out the obvious.

I have to agree that Igbo don't have the kind of leaders that they need or want. The political climate presently witnessed will make such a person even more difficult to find. This dispensation is tainted with religious and tribal paints. The right leader in the wrong camp will be deemed a wrong leader.

I believe Igbo philosophically are individualistic and are also capitalist in nature, as against Yoruba who are more communal and with a more socialist bent.

Understanding this will be go along way in helping any Igbo leader in managing igbo affairs and also positively impact on his strategy for dealing with yorubas and other non-Igbo economically.

Yes Anambra is hosting the world because of huge presence of multinational and national companies springing up in the state from Sabmiller to Distell to Orient Petroleum to Coched farms to Innoson plant to Krisoral group to Orange drugs etc. and so many other of such companies. This also entails the need for the 3 world class shopping centers under construction for the investors, visitors and residents alike..

Anambra has the largest economy after Lagos and Rivers states, so it can swallow anything thrown at it in the form of investment..

This how we Igbos should make positive contributions instead of insults and abuses.

Pls explain why you think state own banks are better

To me

I will advice SE government to partner with some credible banks to support their credit worthy customers with long term low interest loans

I will advice the SE government to encourage Individuals Churches Communities etc to engage in long term low interest loans and be prepare to deal with criminal defaulters using state government power and influence

Are you sure?

These things can be inferred from the population of people resident in the state. And while the Christmas period can be a boom period, with people coming home (something that is gradually reducing if you've noticed); the population of people at Christmas period can't take care of business for the whole year.

So yes, you do need to have something like the nollywood village film/music festival consistently to attract those who do business or stay outside your domain. Also remember, that what you have there can be found in other places in the country, probably with even better incentives. Checkmating that should be part of you plans.
