The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, has put what appeared a halt to the planned defection of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Honourable Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the subsequent announcement of the speaker’s presidential ambition on that platform of the party.

Leaders of the APC had converged on Sokoto on September 27 for the turbaning of Tambuwal as the Matawallen Sokoto as it was learnt that they were at the venue in their numbers because of the belief that Tambuwal would use the occasion to announce his defection to the opposition party and his eventual decision to join the presidential race on the platform of APC.

“News made the rounds late on Thursday that Tambuwal was set to announce his presidential ambition on the platform of the APC on the occasion of the turbaning ceremony, so all of us, leaders of APC, were mandated to arrive Sokoto for the all important event,” a source in the party said, adding that Tambuwal is seen as a member of the opposition party who should be supported in his efforts to cage the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The list of APC bigwigs who were in Sokoto included the party’s presidential aspirants, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and General Muhammadu Buhari; Kano State governor, Rabiu Musa Kwakwanso; APC National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun; National Leader, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu; the party’s Deputy National Chairman, North, Senator Lawal Shuaibu; the National Organising Secretary, Senator Osita Izunazo; National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Muhammed, as well as the host governor, Aliyu Wamakko, among others.

But the leaders were disappointed at Tambuwal’s failure to make the much-expected announcement in his speech on the occasion.

A source confirmed that an emergency meeting was thereafter called at the Sokoto State Government House, where a review of the incident was undertaken.

It was gathered that those at the meeting expressed worry at Tambuwal’s continued prevarication and called for quick intervention by the leaders.

A source told the Saturday Tribune that though Tambuwal was not present at the meeting at the Government House, he was represented by one of his allies.

A source at the meeting confirmed that the Speaker’s ally told the meeting that the Sultan stopped Tambuwal from making the announcement of his presidential ambition on the platform of the APC and his defection to the party.

It was gathered that the Speaker’s representative appealed to the leadership of the APC to bear with him for now, adding that the Sultan’s intervention actually prevented the Speaker from making the expected announcement.

According to the ally, the Sultan told Tambuwal not to mix the strictly traditional occasion with politics and not to make any political statement that could negatively affect the occasion.

The ally told the APC leaders that Tambuwal was “very much appreciative of their support, and that he would have publicly declared his defection from the PDP to the APC during his turbanning, but for the Sultan who advised against doing so.”

The Speaker’s ally was also quoted as telling the leaders of APC that the party was firmly in control of the House of Representatives, and that the members of the House are backing him.

PDP looking for blood shed in APC since day one. Tambuwal is free to join APC if he wants - But for PDP to be having a nightmare over it is becoming very pathetic.

Bastions of power hungry Jihadist. Imagine the scene of all of them congregating in one piece with ranting in the air of that barbaric language. These people are the reasons why Nigeria is almost like a failed state. They never apologized for bringing us into this rot, and then hitherto unremorsefully seeking to crab power again to the provocation of many. I weep of this damned Nigeria if it havent learned from past experience. It is too risk to relinquish power in the hands of this Born-To-Rule thugs GEJ TILL 2019 OR HEAVEN WOULD FALL!

In a s much as this news doesn't have a source I will still advice Tambuwal to take a stand on where he is. In his own voice " his body language seems to be supporting APC but he is officially a member of PDP". It will soon get to a time when he won't be taken seriously by both APC and PDP cos indecision isn't a good trait for a man who wants to be respected. Except he is actually playing a card given to him by someone higher or he probably doesn't want to incur do wrath of the Sultan of Sokoto.

If it were under Obj, independence day parade and celebrations wouldn't be held in the president highly fortified bedroom.
