As the race for the 2015 presidential election gathers momentum, northerners as well as their southern counterparts, are putting final touches to plans to get the best out of the next dispensation. Saturday PUNCH gathered on Thursday that while the North appear divided over the endorsement of President Goodluck Jonathan by the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, the region has started mobilisation on the need to do “what’s best for us.” A source, who confided in Saturday PUNCH, said, “The first phase has been set in motion; there are local political radio programmes which have been on for some time, all we need to do is to strengthen them. “We have the voting population and if our brothers from the South-West who have suffered together with our people under Jonathan cooperate with us, there is no way he can win in
2015.” Asked what the ACF is doing to actualise whatever plan it has to back
a candidate the North will support, the spokesman for the ACF, Mohammed Ibrahim, said in a text message: “ACF is packaging a sensitisation programme that will enlighten the people on the importance of voter registration and election of credible candidates in 2015. We will soon launch the programme which will include jingles and posters.” The spokesman for the Northern Elders Forum, Prof. Ango Abdullahi, said the North would prove to all those who have betrayed “the cause for their selfish ends” that the region “is now more than ever before, united in the desire to have one of its own as President come 2015.” The National Coordinator, Coalition of
Northern Politicians, Academics, Professionals and Businessmen, Dr. Junaid Mohammed, said should President Jonathan rig himself back into office in 2015, it might spell the end of Nigeria as an entity. He said “Quote me, if this President rigs himself back into office in 2015, it may very well mark the end of this country.” Mohammed, who was a Kano State delegate to the just concluded National Conference, said, “Jonathan is a divisive character. He is not only tribalistic, he is clannish. He is very corrupt, irresponsible and he is not ashamed to lie. He has done more damage to the psyche of the average Nigerian that any other government in recent memory.” But the Pan-Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, said it was in support of the Presidency remaining in the South-South to ensure Nigeria’s stability.

Not clamouring for what's good for Nigeria but what's good for the North. You'd be batshiit insane to vote someone from a region that governed for more than 38yrs with nothing to show for it.
A vote for Buhari is a return to the 70s, all the gains made would be reversed by Northern oligarchs and feudal lords, I can't see it happening in 2015.

GEJ's re-election is settled, fact! These northern greys should be more concerned about 2019. If Nigeria still remains after 2019, a core northerner won't be President, fact!

Since there'll be no oil (in the event of a Buhari win), one can safely assume the United Nations would be dropping food parcels to us, tough choices ahead.

100% correct.

i can swear that jonathan is the best president since the creation of Nigeria. We have to choose our leaders based on credibility not on religion and ethnicity.

President Goodluck Jonathan will be re-elected with or without these people.
He will win, yes, he will win again.
He won in 2011
He will win again come 2015.

Without which people?

Is it the same North that has about twelve of its Governors as PDP members?

I HAVE SAID IT BEFORE AND I WILL SAY IT AGAIN, IF GEJ DOES NOT COMPLETE HIS TWO TERMS AS NIGERIAS DULY ELECTED PRESIDENT, NOT ONE DROP OF OIL (BE IT CRUDE OR REFINED) WILL LEAVE THE NIGER DELTA AREA FOR THIS COUNTRY: LAND, SWAMP, CREEK, SHALLOW OR DEEP WATERS. MARK MY WORDS.
'COS THIS TIME, EVEN THE LEARNED, PROFESSIONALS, ELDERLY, WOMEN AND CHILDREN, NIGER DELTANS OUTSIDE THE REGION AND IN THE DIASPORA WILL JOIN IN THIS FIGHT AGAINS MARGINALIZATION.

VIOLENCE DOES NOT BELONG TO ONLY ONE ETHNICITY - AND THE VIOLENCE OF STARVATION IS WORSE.

It's commendable to see their approach which is not only democratic but also diplomatic.

Nobody will dare accuse ACF of ethno-religious bias or self serving.

Politics is all about individual, class, professional, religious, regional and ideological interests. There is no detribalised Nigeria in whatever guise though one can deny his/her tribe for another because of interest.

Until we start accommodating different Interests as much to strike an acceptable compromise, there won't be unity nor loyalty.

North has never offered their northern almajaris anything good neither has it offered Nigeria anything good. Just selfish crop of born to rule egotists.
GEJ has offered more benefits to the almajaris and the entity called Nigeria than any president of Nigeria so far, not even the noisemaker OBJ can stand GEJ in terms of provision of democracy dividends.

PS: OBJ is an egotist, trying to impose himself as kingmaker in Nigeria. OBJ is the most ungrateful human being, both to God and Nigerians. He should hide his face in shame.
