Get your facts right, Nigeria is not overpopulated buy rather grossly under developed when you factor in the spatial organization of our towns and cities plus the under utilization of our agric sector.

Please help me tell them ooo. We have urban sprawl and HUGE tracts of virgin land just sitting idle.

Both countries are overpopulated, there citizens aren't exactly living the most comfortable lives in the world.
Chinese are in every corner of the world.
China's population is about 7.5 times bigger than ours.
They have 1.3 billion, we have 170 million

My guy, the reason why these countries have poor people is the distribution of resources. China has the most billionaires in the world but most of them are hidden just like in Nigeria. Please consider that.

Why don't those people have a source of income? This is what you should be asking. Nigeria has a population that isn't even enough to tap its natural resources. We have huge tracts of arable land that are untouched and unmapped. Massive reserves of mineral resources that are just waiting to be exploited as well as a huge domestic market that needs millions of factory workers to provide it with manufactured goods. Our population is our greatest asset.
some people want us to believe otherwise

So you see nothing wrong with people who have no source of income producing up to 12 children?
Even the billionaires in those countries we want to be like do not have half as much children.
That mentality has to change.
China and India that you guys keep mentioning have been doing a lot to control their population for decades, but here in Nigeria, it is a taboo to even talk about it.
Our population cannot be our greates asset when a good chunk are uneducated and ignorant.
The ebola salt water bath stuff and the number of people who fell for it, says a lot.

There is no country that doesn't have that, virgin land in some countries is bigger than Nigeria as a whole. What do you mean by sitting idle? If every inch of land in the country is already occupied or being used, what happens as the population continues to grow?
The total size of farmlands in the US is five times bigger than Nigeria and they still have virgin land.

Very true. It is those people that are eating more than their share that want us to think other wise. Imagine the USA that consumes 20% of the worlds resources with 5% of the world's population saying Africa needs help with population control. And people are buying it. Too bad.

My guy, what we have is unplanned urban sprawl fed by unrestricted rural-urban migration. If the rural communities can be provided with amenities and opportunities through improving opportunity for agriculture the flow of people to the overcrowded cities will reduce and might even stop or be reversed.

It is like a 3 bedroom house where only 1 room has mosquite net, fan, AC and mattress. The people of the house will rather pack themselves into the room with amenities than sleep in a room where they are battling mosquitoes while sleeping on the floor with no fan or ac. Do you get?

Have u checked the population of USA, china, etc and they are still doing just fine. Op go and die.

That’s dumb. Why would you compare yourself to t:9’e of the largest economies in the world?
Re: Over-population, Not Corruption, Is Our Greatest Problem by LaRosa01: 7:55pm On Jan 25
this is what happen when you are program to repeat what the white man says rather than use your brain.
first no continent in the world has more resources than Africa, you are only poor because you have been tricked into believing you are poor, the white man gives you paper in the name of dollar to collect your resources
second all the largest economy in the word all has that stand because of there population eg China,Brazil, America ,India and even Nigeria that is why you have the largest economy in Africa because of your population,so smaller population means more hunger.

gorociano:
It is my firm belief that Over-population, and not corruption, is the main problem with Nigeria. Our endemic corruption stems from our being over-populated.

What do you think will happen when say a hundred million people are to use resources that are meant for 10 million people to live to survive? People will try to game the system since their personal survival and comfort will be tied to how much of the system they can bend. Hence preponderance of corruption. People will bribe, seduce or even do some religious something hoping a God/god will drive the system in their favour....hence our madness a la religion. MAULAG, UI, OAU etc were built for a population size of how much? Juxtapose that to the number they have to cater for now. Now multiply that for very Institution. Before you qoute other countries, let's do their analysis: USA is on its knees economically; China is trying...and also has a very strict one-child per couple policy for years now; India slums are the worst in the world, closely followed by Brazilian and Indonesian (sex tourism nation o) slums...all their so-called economic growth is Johnny Bravo style (top-heavy) and resembles the "Africa Rising" nonsense every sane individual is tired of.

Now take a look at Kuwait, Ghadaffi's Libya, Botswana, Namibia, Brunei, Bahrain and tell me what you see.
