The 1st tym I saw Yekini's world cup goal celebration on tv I was lyk How I wish d xo called super eagles of today could just have that same passion and spirit for the national team then we would probably be saying another different ball game entirely..... back to the topic The artistry and legendary but yet formidable nature of the late Rashidi Yekini just makes him incomparable at least not now maybe in the future

Whenever i envisage the number 9 shirt, the first player that comes to mind is Rashidi Yekini. Did Kanu ever wear the number 9 anyways?

Best number 9?

Yekini was the one I grew up with....so it has to be him.

Segun Odegbami was pretty good in his time too.

As much as I love Kanu.....he is not my best (or even a ) No 9.

glorious days of Rashid Yekini. I still remember the 4-1 thrashing of Algeria and the wonderful goals scored by yekini.

Who is Nigeria's greatest Number 9.

I think is Kanu Nwankwo ?
I wonder why you picked Kanu. Is it cos of his rescue goals?
Last Bullet
To rate Nigeria's greatest striker, one has to look at their number of goals, teamwork & how vital they were to the team.
It's not just about scoring goals, its also about team contribution.
The greatest among them still remains
1. Rasheed Yekini.
2. Julius Aghaowa
3. Obafemi Martins
4. Segun Odegbami
5. Victor Ikpeba
6. Ikechukwu Uche
7. Kanu Nwankwo
8. Yakubu Aiyegbeni
9. Osaze Odemwingie
10. Daniel Amokachi

More to follow.

Rashidi Yekini, in fact, because of him that number (9) was a threat to opposition team during his time

Ka what? A striker dt went to about 4 or 5 edition of AFCON without a single goal to his name?
Abeg tell them o. Even a goal drought Mikel has AFCON goals to his credit. Egypt 2006 (at his debut), Ghana 2008 & Angola 2012

The legendary 'Rashidi Yekini' by a long shot!

Don't forget he's one of only 2 Nigerians to have won the 'TOP GOAL SCORER' in a European league like he did for Vitoria Setubal of Portugal. The other Nigerian being Richard Owubokiri.

Rashidi Yekini also holds the record for most goals scored by a Nigerian striker for the 'Super Eagles'.

So yes! He's the 'GREATEST' Nigerian striker of all time and I stand to be corrected!!!

was Kanu a Point man?

A lot of 'NAIVE' football fans don't get it!

Nwankwo Kanu was never a point man for country or club alike.

He's always been a support striker or adopting 'THE FREE ROLE' which is he's preferred position!

But people say Yekini wasn't skilful at all. so he wasn't a complete striker.

Trying to get a vote to see what Nigerians think from my list below.

Rasheed Yekini was very skillful, but also a man of quick action. You don't want your number 9 dancing around like Okocha

Yes, Yekini was not skill but back in his days, he played football the way it was played. I however believe he would not have succeeded if he was a striker in today's world and I am reluctant to see Kanu as a 9. He was a 8/10 player thats sometime played as a 9. He does better when playing off a striker ( Ozil/Arsenal Fabregas role ) or as a Pirlo/current Chelsea Fabregas role.

Yekini was a good scorer and had a knack for it but he was skill-less and couldn't quite ever work out a goal let alone produce assists. Kanu although he was not knocking in goals scored brilliant goals arising from uncanny sense of ball juggling. Please review his equalizer with brazil during d olympics and notice how he raised the ball in a goal mouth melee before blasting away. As for yekini scoring our first wc goal, even my grandmother will not miss that pin point cross.

He was scoring goals fed him by others. He tried though but was very dumb at constructing a goal.

You are a certified FOOL and dunce! Go and drink blood tonic so your brain can work because it looks like what you have in your skull is spoilt cold pap.

Kanu who never scored in an AFCON or World Cup is whom you are giving Nigeria s best striker against Nigeria's all-time scorer.

I wonder who swore for you in your village for you to be talking like an I.diot in public. It would have been better if you walked the streets of your neighbourhood naked than type this nonsense

Another thread of comparisons. I'm sure this topic is borne out of boredom from the OP.

Anyway, papillo is my man but he wasn't even a point man those days.

You think the topic is borne out of boredom from the OP whereas 'YOU' have just reiterated the exact same opinion of the OP.

Hmmm... How ironic!!!

I dont know the best way to respond to your question Without hurting your feeling

Was Kanu a number 9?

Apart from the age group, U17 and U23 triumphs, can you think of any other thing Kanu did for the National team?

How many goals did Kanu scored for the national team?

Are you aware that Kanu Never scored a goal at the Nations cup?

Was Kanu a better number 9 in the national team than Yakubu, Obafemi Martins, Ike, Agali, Ikpeba, Ideye, Aghahowa and Emenike?

I think you should apologize to Yekini, Ikpeba, Emenike, Martins and Aghahowa.

If you are so young that you didnt watch Yekini and Ikpeba, didnt you watch Aghahowa and Emenike?

People like you will ask if Balloteli was the best number 9 one day.

Same people who think Mikel is better than Okocha. Mikel sorry to say is not even half of Oruma or Ishola Shauibu.
