The Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission, RMAFC, has revealed that no fewer than 14 states producing solid minerals would soon join Niger Delta states in the country which have been enjoying 13 per cent derivation for over two decades to enjoy the benefit. That's a welcome development..we need to reduce over concentration on oil alone..this country has a large deposit of untapped natural resources.... |

Yes, they should join in collecting 13% of the derivation of the solid minerals in their states. But they cannot collect 13% derivation for a mineral in another state. 2 Likes |

CyberWolf: Before? Did you think the North allowed the 13% derivation to pass at the national conference for nithing. They had this plan before hand. Wait when they start exploiting solid minerals fully in the north and see whether they will not ask for 50% derivation. I pity Niger-Delta people! 3 Likes |

john403:if they ask for 50%, others will also do the same and hopefully it will lead to 100% resource control, then everybody should go home..this is a welcome development.. 4 Likes |

They shouldn't get too excited! After all, Abia and Imo have the 'honour' of receiving this 13% derivation, yet get next to nothing by way of serious funds that can support big-ticket infrastructure like we see with Akwa Ibom, Rivers and Bayelsa! Can someone in-the-know explain to me how this derivation thing will work with solid minerals? Are the states concerned going to get their 13% derivation from exports of these minerals? |

CyberWolf: ^^^Essentially, you're saying that the rest of us can get our demands for at least 50% derivation only when the north says so; that being when they have sufficient exploited minerals they wouldn't want to share with the rest of the country like the Niger Delta is presently being arm-twisted to do! You now see how the rest of the country is beholden to their every whim!? |

IGBOSON1:unfortunately, that's the position we found ourselves, no thanks to Britain ..as long as we get there, it doesn't matter how..the end justifies the means.. |
