House Speaker Tambuwal Says He Is Ready To Face The Police

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal has reacted to the invitation by the Nigerian Police in Abuja.
by SAHARAREPORTERS, NEW YORK Nov 21, 2014

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal has reacted to the invitation by the Nigerian Police in Abuja. The speaker who was earlier today declared wanted by the Nigerian police however warned the police from partisanship. In a statement signed by his media aide, Imam Imam, Tambuwal promised to honor the date with the police authorities but cautioned the police to remain politically neutral. Speaker of the House of Reps, Aminu Tambuwal

See full text of the statement below:

The attention of the Hon Speaker, House of Representatives, Rt Hon Aminu Waziri Tambuwal CFR, has been drawn to publications in the media to the effect that the Inspector General of Police has ordered that he, Speaker, be invited to the Force Headquarters and that he be arrested if he resisted.

The Honorable Speaker wishes to state that he is a law abiding citizen of the Federal Republic of Nigeria who has no immunity against arrest and prosecution except privileges as may be provided by the Legislative Powers and Privileges Act.

Accordingly , the Hon Speaker states for the records that he is available, ready and willing to answer any lawful invitation from any of the Security agencies on any matter for which they may require his attention.

The Speaker expresses dismay at the unprofessional conduct of the Nigerian Police in the attempt to stop him from accessing the House of Representatives chambers on the 20th November 2014 to preside over the Special Session of the House on the State of Emergency Extension requested by Mr President, for which he had recalled members from their working recess.

Most disgraceful is the false statement later issued by the Police in which they claimed that in the lawful exercise of their duties “ Alh Aminu Tambuwal CFR, arrived the venue with a motley crowd, who broke the cordon, assaulted the Police and evaded due process”. This blatant falsehood coming from a law enforcement agency, that is expected to be neutral and lawful, is unfortunate, to say the least.

For the avoidance of doubt, the Hon Speaker came to National Assembly accompanied by Hon Members as is customary during any sitting of the House. They all came with their official vehicles but were disallowed from driving into the premises. Certainly Hon Members, who arrived the precinct of the National Assembly in response to a call to perform an urgent, critical national assignment, cannot be described by any self respecting institution as “a motley crowd “

It is important to remind the Nigeria Police Force that as a public institution that provides common services for all the arms of government, they must not allow themselves to be used by one of the arms to undermine the others.

Special Adviser on Media and Public Affairsto the Hon Speaker

Tambuwal, You lied. You arrived with a motley crowd, broke the cordon, your guys assaulted the police(Your driver almost ran him down) and pushed him away and evaded due accreditation process. All this were caught in the video clip. If you are a law abiding citizen, why did you supervise the destruction of public property? Why did you allow your men scale the fence? Why? WHY? ..are you doing this to Nigerians
You shut the house for over a month for your defection squabbles and on resumption, there will still be more fights. You are loosing respect from your colleagues.

One last question as my friends are deep in argument; How did you enter the chambers? Did you jump the fence? grin

You better carry your mattress and pillow and medicine cos you will be long gone. You are about to prove your popularity to Nigerians if only you can win election from prison.
Adieu Tambuwal.

Tambuwal should just resign from speakership. See the humiliation he's going through. How on earth did he think PDP will let him eat his cake and have it.

When you have the leadership of Jonathan type all you could expect is inept appointees of the IG who in his short time in his new position has shown lack of professionalism in all his actions, and has taken the already damaged image of the nigeria police to another level of disgrace.

Some people are just busy talking like mumu.... they can't think beyond the bias that has clouded their brain...... under which law or for which offense will they detain and keep him in custody...

....personally I'm hoping the IG should arrest and put Tambuwal in jail then give a press statement, talking like a warlord....

.....this will further dig deeper and quicker the grave Jonathan and his useless advisers are digging for him...

By the way, why did Mr.President feign ignorance of what happened when he was asked?

Secondly, why are they really particular about Tambuwal Political Neck?

Who is afraid of Tambuwal?

Under which Court in Nigeria says, "he is no longer the Speaker of the House?"

Who gave the order to stymie Tambuwal from gaining access to his PPA?

...And why did Tambuwal recall the house for a temporary Plenary Session?

If I were Mr.President, iWill just ignore Tambuwal after all, how many monthsleft
T' shouldn't be a matter of do or kpai(die) Affair.

Jonathan and his men should please not plunder the country into unnecessary chaos. The presidency should please try to tolerate the opposition and allow peace to reign in the country.

You are probably just returning from cape verde because if you've been around, you should know that GEJ is so tolerant to a point that it has become annoying.

So if you've got an advice for him...... definitely not on tolerance.

How can a speaker of the Federal House be so lawless ? Imagine the so called touts we call our representatives jumping fence and pushing police men all in the name of APC opposition. Does this even make sense to any reasonable person.

They even went to the extent of slapping the Senate president. Only in Nigeria will such lawlessness be condoled because of sentiment al reasons.

APC Leaders and rep members should be arrested NOW !!!.

Funny the police authority is trying to outdo the SSS in the battle of who sucks the a.nus of the presidency better.

Can't imagine scotland yard invading the UK commons or the FBI throwing canisters of tear-gas at Boehnr and other reps in the US and not have the leadership of the police force sacked nd the president impeached or cajoled.

The Buhari presidency next year should look at constitutional review to grant and approve the operation of a state and local police force.

The problem with you and your likes is that you talk too much without thinking, that's why you blow grammar like a suicide bomber.
This is not the first time your Oga will use police to intimidate opposition members but he always end up defeated. Let's see for how long he thinks he will keep misusing federal power

why a one-sided view. Its equally shameful, a police force that interprets the constitution by itself and carries out unconstitutional actions; police force that its so glaringly partisan, it has become appalling. They let through the Senate President and some PDP legislators while banning the speaker and APC reps. from gaining entrance.

And how come the IG has nothing to say concerning the unconstitutionality going on in Ekiti right now.

I believe Nigerians have eyes and can see what's happening here.

The 19 Ekiti House of Rep members that behaves like gentlemen, what was the outcome. Has the appropriate authorities intervened to do the right thing.

The truth is, the plan was to lock out members may be loyal to the speaker and for those inside to go ahead and impeach the speaker.

Don't dare say it's a lie, because that's exactly what happened in Ekiti.

it is shameful that your PDP and the IG will spare a criminal like Tompolo who kidnapped 7 journalist who were on their duty but will rather go after a law abiding citizen doing what he was elected to do.
