Nigeria’s Petroleum Minister, Mrs Diezani Allison Madueke, has been elected as President of the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC). Alison-Madueke’s election as President of OPEC took place on Thursday at the ongoing 166th ordinary meeting of the Organisation, taking place in Vienna, Austria. She becomes the first female to be elected into that position, and replaces Libya’s Vice Prime Minister for Corporations, Abdourhman Atahar Al-Ahirish, who was occupying the position. Before her election, Mrs Alison-Madueke was the alternate president of OPEC and is expected to immediately begin to serve her one-year term at the helm of OPEC affairs. It is expected that OPEC, during its ongoing 166th meeting, would make key decisions that could halt the dwindling price of crude oil. Diezani K. Alison-Madueke, born 6 December 1960, became Nigeria’s Minister of Transportation on July 26, 2007. She was moved to Mines and Steel Development in 2008, and in April 2010 was appointed Minister of Petroleum Resources. http://www.channelstv.com/2014/11/27/nigerias-petroleum-minister-alison-madueke-elected-opec-president/?utm_source=&utm_medium=twitter |

Did Buhari make any meaningful contribution to such meeting during his tenor as Petroleum Minister? Just asking as he appears to have been a floor member then |

While the instinct to leap up and applaud wildly like a trained sea-lion is understandable, whenever a Nigerian is bestowed with an internationally recognized position of responsibility, this particular instance should be seen as a BAD and SAD development, given that the Nigerian woman purportedly elevated to a position of global authority is nothing more just than another compulsive kleptomaniac, who had a penchant for taking numerous chartered jet flights between Europe and Africa, while billing the Nigerian treasury 100 times the cost of a FIRST CLASS airfare on regular commercial airliner plying the same routes. As a die-hard loyalist of President Goodluck Jonathan and of his administration in general terms, I must confess to be bitterly disappointed at the alarming and reckless error that has been made in picking a well known thief and criminal embezzler to represent not just Nigeria, on the world stage, but also ALL other oil-producing nations of the world. Hopefully, after due consideration, the Jonathan administration will come to realize what an ill- conceived selection this has been, to pick a light-fingered woman whose rightful place is a nice secure jail cell, and make her a frigging diplomat, for ffucks sake. 1 Like |
