We make so much criticism about our goverment, but fail to look at brighter sides where things are working, but were formally moriburn. Last weekend, while relaxing in my flat, I suddenly heard people screaming, "fire! fire! fire". I looked out of my window I saw fire gushing out of a two storey's roof. Trust lagos boys na, they started fetching water to quench the fire, but they complain that the particular flat was electric shocking. I reach out to my phone and dialed 112 emergency number, in secounds a lady picked up the call, i gave her my story, fire! she collected my details; name, address, i gave her. she now asked of the address of the resident on fire, I gave her. Would you believe in about 15 minutes fire fighters arrived with their siren blasting, and assisted in quenching the already spreading fire. I was like wow! in this country?

Not a surprise. It's not just lip service when people say Lagos is working. I recently witnessed an accident with the swift response of Lagos State Ambulance Service.

The Lagos emergency numbers work very well. A colleague of mine called me one night at about 1:30 that there were robbers in her compound. She called me because I am industrial security specialist. All I did was just dialed the hot line and security control room and also told her few things to do. In fifteen. Minutes latter, she called that police have come and luckily for her, the robbers have entered the third flat just before hers when the police arrived.
We should all learn to call these numbers. Lagos police control numbers 0806 035 7795, 0705 546 2708, 0809 329 9264

They arrived within 15 minutes with all the traffic in Kaduna??

The fact that the fire service responded at all is commendable in itself. There are states without fire engines or rickety ones, and no emergency number to call! Kudos to Fashola - Lagos is the true pacesetter.

In 2009, there was a house on fire on my street around Isolo and less than 25 minutes afterwards, Firemen from Lagos State Fire Service came around. I was very impressed with Lagos State. The OP just confirmed again that Lagos State has one of most efficient Fire Service on Nigeria

Good. But how are you sure it was your emergency call that made it happen? You know it is possible some other person may have called the fire service directly. The only way you could have verified was to ask the fire people

I can attest to wat d op said about the picking of d call, I remember some months ago wen there was similar situation in my area, ours was a small kiosk and it's was mid night(I tink pass one or two), I remember dialing 767, nd almost immediately, a lady picked it, she asked my address nd oda questn wich I told her, den she said fire service wil b there any minute. Some minutes letter I got a call frm an MTN number, d person said it was lag fire service nd he started asking my address and oda details again, at dis time guys in d street had already put off d fire, so I told him, nd he said next time if there is fire, I should call d fire service directly, he said dat was d number he was calling me with. Immediately I saved d number: 08033235891.

Lucky you. Then it is possible a lot of people called them much earlier.

I witnessed a fire as it started. Called more than 11times out of pity for the owner of the flat. I kept hearing "We re sorry , they are on their way".

They came after the fire burnt down the whole building and prevented the spread.
