PDP chieftain flees Nigeria, alleges assassination attempt

From Iyabo Lawal, Ibadan

FORMER Director of Odu'a Investment Company Limited and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Olawale Oladoja, has fled the country over alleged fresh assassination attempt on his life.

The PDP chieftain had two weeks ago escaped a similar assassination attempt when two gunmen invaded his Bodija, Ibadan, residence and shot him on the head and in the back. He was later admitted at the Accident and Emergency Ward of the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, where three of the six bullets lodged in his body were extracted while the remaining three were said to have been removed at an undisclosed location in Ibadan.

He subsequently applied for police protection through his counsel, Chief Ladosu Ladapo (SAN) and was given four officers.

However, Oladoja, while speaking on telephone yesterday, alleged that a three-man gang suspected to be hired assassins again stormed his house at 7.30 p.m. on Saturday. The PDP chieftain said they came in a Mercedes Benz 230 car and laid ambush for him.

After briefing the policemen in his house, Oladoja said the officers fired into the bush where the gunmen were hiding.

According to him, the gunmen escaped in their Mercedes Benz car. Worried by the development, the PDP chieftain immediately packed a few of his belongings and left for a neighbouring country.
