Board of internal revenue is the State parastatal responsible for IGR (internal generated revenue). Thats where you process and obtain you VAT docuuments (for enterprises). But you can walk into any FIRS office and collect your TIN, its free.

Maintain?

All I know is file VAT at your FIRS office whether you do business or not (NIL) and request a new TCC every year with evidence of VAT filing and annual reports (if you've started business)

The Certificate is yours to keep.

Just go to FIRS before the 21st of each month, ask for VAT filing form fill NIL if you did no business or pay 5% of invoice values for the previous month if you did business. They would acknowledge, sign and give you a copy of what you filled.

Please for a company that was registered in the 80s with the then Federal Ministry of Commerce and Tourism before the creation of the Corporate Affairs Commission. Can one still use the certificate issued then by the Ministry? the company has not been doing business for a while
