I quite agree with you that child abuse is very rampant in our society. And this is the area the govt. is expected to do something, I mean stiff penalty. Instead the executors are busy amassing ill gotten wealth. Even our women are not safe

And marrying children and punishing gay adults angry

This raging paedophile menace is one reason i dont wanna have female children o

You really think it's only female kids that can be molested? Hear this, a male friend of mine was molseted by their house girl from primary 1 till he was in JSS3. Mom was hardly around. He initially didn't know what it was about but when he got to junior secondary and opened up to his peers they introduced him to porn magazines and advised him on how to take on the maid when next she approached him.

What was the effect? Warped mentality. Right now he wants to reprogramme his mind but it's hard. Bad enough we don't have psychologists and accessible counsellors.

Both boys and girls need protection.

You mean Parents from Lagos state, Oyo state and Ogun state cheesy

80% of such news comes from that area bro wink

Pls lets be real here. Because you don't often hear about it happening in other places doesnt mean it doesn't happen there frequently.
The states you mentioned are probably ready for a change especially to prosecute and act as a deterrent to other paedophiles. Some other places are stil living in a bubble and when that bubble burst , it wont be funny.
Child abuse is everywhere and we atimes assume its even worse abroad, but that's because we dont have the stats and due to d stigma attached many cases go unreported.

This is cool, the book idea is effective too

but Op from 1-10, you make it seem as if it doesnt happen at all to lil boys. Only your nephew as example of the points you tried to pass across.

Yeah i know, it happens more to the girls than the boys, BUT.........

God Bless You..OP. One of the most reasonable post I've seen on Nairaland, if not the best. We all need to join hands to fight this, really..not campaigning for people that don't know you and killing one anoda...

I myself do NOT allow my lil sis to go out to anybody whose household has a small boy or maid..I MUST protect any young child. Y'all should do so too...relatives or not.

Hey Onegai, Long time!!!!

Thanks for this piece. It is good to see that awareness is growing in this area.

For those who are not in Nigeria and would like a similar book to help in this area, check out "Those are my private parts" by Diane Hanse. Here is a link to it on Amazon - http://www.amazon.com/Those-are-MY-Private-Parts/dp/1482544377/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1420739285&sr=8-1&keywords=Those+are+my+private+parts

Amazon also has a lot of other great books in the children's safety books section (http://www.amazon.com/gp/bestsellers/books/3242/ref=zg_b_bs_3242_1) that are worth looking at.

I know The Fountain of Life Churrch Ilupeju sells it, I'm not sure if Laterna (VI) sells it, but please make enquiries from The Fountain of Life church (Pastor Taiwo Odukoya's church).

I'm going to get my own copy, even though I don't have kids yet and gift one to a friend's 2 year old daughter and another's 4 year son. We cannot keep pretending all is well in our society, it's madness to do so, when we are continually surrounded by evidence showing we have so much wrong with us.

Most people who target kids are people who are around them. Remember, it is rarely a stranger on the road that will attack your child, it will most likely be his classmate, her teacher, his nanny, your neighbour or even worse, your relative.

And yes, boys do get abused too. A friend of my sister's narrated how his parents n boy decided to molest him for an entire term, and how he got so desperate to not return back to the school, he drank either Bleach or some other household chemical.

I also don't have kÍds and neither am I married but I'll do everything possible to get that book for my soon to be kids. Thanks a bunch bro

I have a friend whose bros was abused by their cousin.they really hate her. His sis was abused by their driver.. God help them. He himself was abused by guys in sec skul. When you see some guys fighting the gay tendency..you have no idea.

I myself do NOT allow my lil sis to go out to anybody who has a small boy or maid..I MUST protect any young child. Y'all should do so too...relatives or not.

And when I say 'a friend', yes I mean me.

It's too bad we don't have the statistics on the number of kids abused. The abuser is usually a trusted friend or relative. It's imperative that parents protect and equip their children. Arm your kids with knowledge and listen nd probe.
Re: "No! Don't Touch Me There" by Six11(m): 10:08pm On Jan 08, 2015
I hate abuse and nobody will ever abuse my child or someone I love.
But on the flip side, I have an assignment for everyone on this thread. I sincerely believe it will balance, harmonize and put things in perspective.

Assignment-
Read about and look for the meaning of the following:
1. Abuse
2. Child Abuse
3. Masochism
4. Sadomasochism
5. Sadist
6. Affection

With the almost daily cases of Child Abuse being reported, I want to bring this topic up again.

I've gotten my copy of Nomthi Odukoya's "No, Don't Touch Me There" (I am in no way affiliated to the author). Since I cannot sew AgbadaPampers to cover Baby E up "decently" and no-one can be trusted to have self-control and the law will not defend her (even worse, they may accuse her of tempting her attacker), I decided the best form of defence is offence.

Please grab your copy or any book that will help you relate this serious issue to your kids. Both parents, take time to sit down together as a family and discuss it with your babies. Also, appropriate videos exist, teaching about how children can keep safe from Child Abuse.
