Why Did Buhari Arrest Ojukwu? by Justcash(m): 1:01pm On Jan 09, 2015
I have heard that Buhari arrested Ojukwu after his coup. While the arrest of the prominent politicians in Shagari's regime was understandable, can someone explain why he had to arrest Ojukwu?

Even Buhari himself know that he acts as the 'spirit' directs. There is no reason at all, he just felt like jailing him. Asking Buhari to give you a reason for any of his action is asking for too much. It is more than 2 weeks now and he has not shown you his certificate, now you are asking him to explain something.

If he can snub Oputa Panel, be sure that he will snub any request to explain anything.

Power intoxication. Nothing else. A small lanky desert quota systemd upstart finds himself as the president and in a desperate display of raw power, he arrested his chi. . He has been weeping ever since.

It is part of our history that needs to be clarified lest we vote a sectional and negatively passionate leader into power. We must not ignore this part of our history just to pacify ethnic bigots.

The second Republic was truncated on 31 December 1983 by Major-General Muhammadu Buhari, supported by General Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida and Brigadier Sani Abacha. The junta proceeded to arrest and to keep Ojukwu in Kirikiri Maximum Security Prison, Lagos, alongside most prominent politicians of that era. Having never been charged with any crimes, he was unconditionally released from detention on 1 October 1984, alongside 249 other politicians of that era—former Ministers Adamu Ciroma and Maitama Sule were also on that batch of released politicians. In ordering his release, the Head of State, General Buhari said inter alia: "While we will not hesitate to send those found with cases to answer before the special military tribunal, no person will be kept in detention a-day longer than necessary if investigations have not so far incriminated him." (WEST AFRICA, 8 October 1984)
Many politicians were arrested including Ojukwu, but nothing was found against him and he was freed unconditionally. Was he the only one? No! Buhari was only trying to arrest corrupt people and not want them to flee.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/C._Odumegwu_Ojukwu#After_Biafra

So in essence, innocent people (including the likes of Ojukwu who were not part of the overthrown government) were hauled off to prison and unjustly detained for almost one full year merely on a whim? Just based on a sadistic dictator's arbitrary suspicion? Military regime or not, that can't be right. If that is the sort of "anti corruption war" that Buhari represents, then Nigeria can do without it.

Was Ojukwu the only one that was jailed and freed unconditionally? Ciroma was jailed, Jakande was jailed (and released) but both men respect Buhari. Infact, Jakande campaigned for Buhari in 2011... Ojukwu was also close to Buhari and was even accused by some people that he was working alongside Buhari to return Buhari as President in 2003.

I will like to know why Ojukwu arrested? What was he arrested for? What was he suspected of doing? He just came back from exile at that time, and was not actively involved in running the government. Why was he arrested?

Ojukwu was active in politics. He contested for Senate and lost to Dr. Edwin Onwudiwe in 1982. He was arrested, his innocence proven, he was freed and I am sure they apologised to him.

Show us d apology if u are sure.

So the best way to fight corruption is by arbitrary arrest without evidence?

This goes to show how clueless buhari is. U arrest people before investigation or investigate before arrest.

Let Nigerians judge for themselves the kind of beast marauding as a saint today. Very clueless bastard.

I see your twisted logic, please can you show understanding to an armed robber because it was not only your house he ribbed.
If he robbed the whole neighborhood!

Buhari is tyranny personified.
After 30 years, he is unrepentant in his tyranny.

His campaign niche is "jail" and I am still wondering how he intends to that.

The man is bereft of ideas of governance and in my opinion, Buhari should head the EFCC!
An uncut and crude character like him should not and must not be allowed to lead Nigeria.

Adamu Ciroma and Maitama Sule were ministers, was Ojukwu part of the government? why was he arrested? How can someone who is not in government be corrupt and enriching himself with Nigeria money?

Let me quote Ojukwu when he was release "As a committed democrat, every single day under an un-elected government hurts me. The citizens of this country are mature enough to make their own choices, just as they have the right to make their own mistakes"

Sometimes you defend the indefensible

Was Ojukwu in govt. His reason for his arrest is borne out of tribal hate and absolute illiteracy

Buhari will never rule Nigeria

I hope you don't change moniker when he suffers defeat
