As the controversy surrounding the non-approval
of the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium for
President Goodluck Jonathan’s campaign rages,
the governorship candidate of the Peoples
Democratic Party in Rivers State, Chief Nyesom
Wike, has vowed that the facility will be
available for the President’s rally on January
28, 2015

The state government had refused to approve
the state PDP’s application to be allowed to use
the stadium for the event, maintaining that the
facility was still under construction.
But Wike, who spoke on Tuesday in Port
Harcourt, during a meeting with the Goodluck to
Goodluck Political Group, declared that contrary
to claims by the State Governor, Mr. Rotimi
Amaechi, the PDP presidential campaign in
Rivers would hold at the Amiesimaka Stadium.
The governorship candidate explained that the
stadium belonged to the people of the state,
insisting that the President would use it
irrespective of Amaechi’s stance on the matter.
Wike argued that since the All Progressives
Congress was able to hold its presidential rally in
the stadium on January 6, 2015, it was logical
that the PDP could use the same facility for its
presidential rally.
Explaining that the PDP was committed to the
peaceful use of the stadium, Wike added that the
state PDP were meeting with relevant
stakeholders to ensure that the right thing was
done.
“The PDP presidential rally will hold at the
Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium on Wednesday,
January 28. The APC held their own presidential
campaign rally on January 6, 2015 and an earlier
rally on October 25, 2014 in the same stadium.
“Our presidential rally will hold at that stadium
because it belongs to the people. We are working
with all stakeholders to ensure that the right
thing is done to move the nation forward. We are
committed to the peaceful use of the stadium for
our Presidential campaigns,” he said.
Wike, however, called on members of the
Goodluck to Goodluck Political Group to continue
with their massive mobilization for the re-
election of President Jonathan.
Earlier, the Legal Adviser of the group told the
PDP governorship candidate that his association
was working for Jonathan’s emergence as
President for a second term and Wike as the next
governor of the state.
Wike had also inaugurated committees that
would be responsible for the successful
organisation of the PDP presidential rally in the
state, even as he tasked the committees to work
selflessly to set the tone for the re-election of
the President.
However, the Rivers State PDP Chairman, Mr.
Felix Obuah, who spoke on behalf of theh
committees, promised that members would
deliver a memorable presidential rally in the
state.

Amaechi should know that this is the property of Rivers State as a whole and he has no right to stop the President from making use of it come Jan. 28th. This one sided favouritism makes me so angry. APC uses it two times but you don't want the President to use it. Is something wrong with him?

It's okay for Amaechi to have used the stadium for past rallies including the most recent for the APC rally, but it's not okay for PDP to do the same right? He's a "loyal dog" because as a state citizen, he doesn't have the right to use public property? Amaechi has again, disgraced himself. Legally, if the state government built the stadium then they have administrative oversight and control over its use. They can deny anybody no matter how highly placed because there is no legal right to use a stadium. However, if the APC has used the same stadium for their own rally just recently then it becomes a moral issue. The governor should allow the PDP the same benefit.

What was the criteria or conditions for obtaining permission for using the facilities?
Hope someone will provide the reasons for the refusal if it's really the case as things always not what it seems with politicians on a face value.

The problem is that most approach issues in a bid to flex power to see who the "alpha male" is. It might look a bit odd to deny Mr President access to the stadium in implied terms, but he didn't just do so without proper foundation and explanations. If after his explanation, the presidency or other concerned pdp members still think they are being unduly exterminated from the structure, why don't they run a check to see if the claim of "stadium under construction" is true or false. Ranting solidarity chorus and trying to make a mountain out of a mole hill isn't the way to this at all... God forbids that the stadium collapse during rally, who do you think will be made to take the blames ? "The governor" of course, but has he has warned of the state of the stadium now. If the Pdp governorship aspirant still feels there is no other possible venue in the state for the rally except the structure under construction, I wish him and his master "goodluck. The stadium is not available because the contractors have resumed work....and its very simple...if heavy tractors are placed at the entrances and all the electricity structures are cut off..and they pour sand and gravel along the drive path...let me see how Wike, Police, Soldiers and GEJ will manage to use this stadium...like the yoruba adage says..aya gidigba o le silekun, afeni to ba ni kokoro...meaning...a door cannot be opened by a man with muscle but by a man with the key
