I disagree, the universe is too vast for us to be the only intelligent life forms. We probably won't ever make contact with them, but "they" are probably thinking the same thing out there. On the contrary a lot of religious belief systems have records of extraterresstrila phenomena, The only problem is that they described it in a way different to how we describe it today hence we don't see it that way.
