IKENGAWO V. APC

I challenged a series of APC member to debate me and not one had the courage to step up to the plate. So this is my official debate thread with all of Nairaland APC.

Subject: President Goodluck Jonathan CCAF's Performance in his First 6 Years.

Challenge: Give me any accusation, assertion, or belief held by APC towards Goodluck Jonathan and I will strike them all down with facts, evidence, and logic.

I advise my fellow supporters of the transformation to let me handle this one alone, and I guarentee you that half of APC's online campaigners will switch to supporting President Goodluck Jonathan by the end of this thread.

Do you agree that Nwobodo should have been jailed for being corrupt?

How do you use technology to stop inflation of contracts and kickbacks?

Great, let get it started.

Stealing: take (another person's property) without permission or legal right and without intending to return it.
Corruption: 1. dishonest or fraudulent conduct by those in power, typically involving bribery.
2. the process by which something, typically a word or expression, is changed from its original use or meaning to one that is regarded as erroneous or debased.

Conclusion: If a man steals money from the government, that man is stealing. If that man is given power over the money and uses that power to enrich himself, that's corruption. A teacher that asks students for bribes to make marks is corrupt because he is using his authority in a debased was to enrich himself that contrary to what we trust a teacher to do and be. A armed robber robbing that same teach is just steal his or her money and the robbery does not fit the definition of steal.

President Jonathan fights corruption so that it will end stealing. For example, Obasanjo would simply chase the individuals who he felt were stealing money to give the illusion of fighting corruption. Meanwhile he was withhold the budget of the entire state of Lagos, starving that state of it's deserved money which is corruption. GEJ understands that chasing every thief in a corrupt system doesn't work. Corrupt is like an open window and the flies that come in are the thieves. Obasanjo was cashing each fly with a new paper, GEJ simple closes the window

How does he do this?

1. Freedom of Information Act: Under GEJ it's impossible to use government money without publishing the records of your spending. Because of this we found out that people were using the fuel and fertilizer subsidies to enrich themselves corruptly. Because of this we found out about Stella Oduah's bulletproof cars, because of this we have closed the gates on corruption,

2. Ghostworkers: GEJ has used the Freedom of Information act to discover that thousands of ghost workers existed in the system that were being used to funnel money to corrupt officials. Federal government has eliminated all off them to date. Because of the FOI bill GEJ crushed the corrupt system or the open window.
http://ynaija.com/politico/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/GHOST-WORKER..jpg

3. Cashless Economy: GEJ has issued a cashless economy. Most important aspect of this is that government money is no longer doled out in cash and Ghana Must Gos. Government money is now digital. So if someone steals, we know immediately. If someone is corrupt, we catch them immediately, and thanks to GEJ Ngozi Okonjo Iweala and Sanusi Lamido Sanusi Nigeria now runs a modern accountable financial system.

While our fight against corruption is going to be a long one and we're no where near where we need to be as a nation, here is direct irrefutable evidence proving that we have improved under President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan

2002:OBJ
Nigeria Ranked Second Most Corrupt Country
Nigeria was yesterday ranked second most corrupt country behind Bangladesh for 2002.

The Berlin based Transpa-rency International in its annual report published a list of 102 countries ranked in order of perceptions of corruption.

Nigeria scored 1.6 out a possible 10 points. This score was exceeded by that of Bangladesh which was scored 1.6 making it the country with the most corrupt public sector.

The list is compiled from a series of surveys rather than a hard and fast rundown of the world's most corrupt countries, and does not include those nations where there was insufficient information to make a judgment.

As last year, Bangladesh once again finished bottom of the heap in an index on perceived public sector corruption.

Once again, rich countries were perceived as the least corrupt: the list was topped by Finland with a score of 9.7 out of 10, followed by Denmark, New Zealand, Iceland, Singapore and Sweden.

The TI Corruption Percep-tions Index is a subjective reading, compiled from 15 polls gathered by nine institutions and focusing on graft in the public sector.

To qualify for the index, a country must rank on at least three different surveys.

Other countries cited in the corruption index include Britain in 10th place on a score of 8.7, Hong Kong in 14th on 8.2, the United States in 16th on 7.7, Japan in joint 20th on 7.1, South Africa in joint 36th on 4.8, China in joint 59th on 3.5, and India, Russia and Zimbabwe joint 71st on 2.7.

Interestingly, United States of America placed 16th on a score of 7.7 while South Africa (=36th, 4.cool, Brazil (=45th, 4.0) and Russia (=71st, 2.7).

The lowest ranked EU country was Greece (44th place, 4.2).

2014: GEJ
Nigeria now 39th most corrupt nation, says TI
The global corruption watchdog, Transparency International, has ranked Nigeria as the 39th most corrupt nation in the world.

According to the Corruption Perception Index 2014 released on Wednesday, Nigeria scored 27 out of a maximum 100 marks to clinch the 136th position out of the 175 countries surveyed for the report.

Nigeria appeared to have improved by eight points against its 2013 rating of 144th of 175 countries last year.

It will be recalled that the Transparency International Corruption Perception Index ranked Nigeria 35th most corrupt nation in the world in 2012.

A statement issued by the Transparency International noted that more than two thirds of the 175 countries in the 2014 Corruption Perceptions Index scored below 50, on a scale from 0 (perceived to be highly corrupt) to 100 (perceived to be very clean).

Denmark is the least corrupt nation in the world, ranking first out of the 175 countries surveyed while North Korea and Somalia are the most corrupt nations of the world.

The Transparency International said while top performer, Denmark, had strong rule of law, support for civil society and clear rules governing the behaviour of those in public positions, it also set an example by announcing plans to create a public register, such as beneficial ownership information for all companies incorporated in Denmark.

This measure, according to the corruption watchdog, will make it harder for the corrupt to hide behind companies registered in another person’s name.

Botswana comes top as the least corrupt nation in Africa, ranking 31st least corrupt globally while South Africa is ranked 67th.

Transparency International Chairman, José Ugaz, in a statement on the TI website, said countries at the bottom needed to adopt radical anti-corruption measures in favour of their people.

“The 2014 Corruption Perceptions Index shows that economic growth is undermined and efforts to stop corruption fade when leaders and high level officials abuse power to appropriate public funds for personal gain,” Ugaz said.

According to Ugaz, countries at the top of the index should make sure they do not export corrupt practices to underdeveloped countries.

“The biggest falls were in Turkey (-5), Angola, China, Malawi and Rwanda (all -4). The biggest improvers were Côte d´Ivoire, Egypt, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines (+5) and Afghanistan, Jordan, Mali and Swaziland (+4),” the statement said.

The anti-corruption group said it was currently running a campaign to unmask the corrupt, urging the European Union, the United States and G20 countries to follow Denmark’s lead and create public registers that would make clear “who really controls, or is the beneficial owner, of every company.”

Look at what each country did with the money.

When do we stop celebrating mediocrity? or does it mean that our leaders don't know the speed differences between the trains or that they don't see train abroad but if they want to buy car, they buy the latest model

Nigerians are celebrating train that runs low Km/ph, whereas other countries are now phasing out to what we called speed train for intercity transport.

Do you agree that Nwobodo should have been jailed for being corrupt?

How do you use technology to stop inflation of contracts and kickbacks?

Good question bokohalal,

While Corruption isn't technology proof, government, businesses and organizations have discovered around the world that technology and corruption can't live in the same sphere. Technology creates transparency. For example, when APC lied about it's crowd in Kano, it was the power of social media and the internet that allowed Nigerians to discover this fake crowd was from a religious rally in a SWern state. So, corrupt gives whistle blowers power they never hard and takes away secrecy that the corrupt use to survive. GEJ was saying this. Buhari wants to simple jail anyone he personally catches doing 'corruption'. But as we've seen with him trying this in the past, it doesn't work and did not salvage Nigeria. It becomes a game of political hunting. Will Atiku and Tinubu be arrested? No. But what GEJ does is create a situation where it's impossible for Atiku and Tinubu to steal or abuse power using technology

How he does this
1. Cashless Economy: The 'Ghana Must Go' era is over. The Cashless Economy makes all government transactions digitally based as is done in the modern world. This means that individuals that want to send billions abroad will leave a paper trail. This paper trail is available to the media with the Freedom of Information Act. This FOI bill gives them evidence to strike cases against corrupt officials or blow the whistle putting pressure of officials and police to act, which they do under GEJ.

2. YouWin: President GEJ realizes that the youth world wide are the primary engine for innovation, so his solutions is simple. Youth that come up with business ideas that improve the nation are given government grants and contracts to enrich themselves and spread the contribution. Many youth have devised technology that aid in tracking corruption, government spending, or making government information accessible to common people. This has lead to more awareness of corruption in Nigeria as you'll read in the article below. Stella Oduah, GEJ's own ally and minister, bought cars at an inflated price which is corruption. This information was public (which she clearly didn't know) because of the Cashless Economy and Freedom of Information Act or simply said: Technology. The nation went into uproar and Stella was taken away from a power she couldn't handle in an honest way. Technology is the best way to fight corruption because GEJ doesn't control technology, the people do. Simple arrests of corrupt political enemies aren't because government controls arrests, the people don't. Technology can never be political like witch hunting and jungle justice styles of fighting corruption.

Here is the evidence as to how technology has dropped corruption in Nigeria

How Technology Aids The Fight Against Corruption In Nigeria And The World

Good governance is critical for all countries around the world today. When it doesn’t exist, many governments fail to deliver public services effectively; health and education services are often substandard; corruption persists in rich and poor countries alike, choking opportunity and growth. It will be difficult to reduce extreme poverty — let alone end it — without addressing the importance of good governance.

But this is not a hopeless situation. In fact, a new wave of progress on governance suggests we may be on the threshold of a transformational era. Countries are tapping into some of the most powerful forces in the world today to improve services and transparency. These forces include the spread of information technology and its convergence with grassroots movements for transparency, accountability and citizen empowerment. In some places, this convergence is easing the path to better-performing and more accountable governments.

The Philippines is a good example of a country embracing good governance. The President Benigno Aquino has great plans to reduce poverty, create jobs, and ensure that economic growth is inclusive. He see improving governance as a fundamentally important part of their strategy. The government has opened government data and contract information so citizens can see how their tax money is spent. The Foreign Aid Transparency Hub, launched after Typhoon Yolanda, offers a real-time look at pledges made and money delivered for typhoon recovery. Geo-tagging tools monitor assistance for people affected by the typhoon.

Opening budgets to scrutiny

This type of openness is spreading. Now many countries that once withheld information are opening their data and budgets to public scrutiny.

Late last year, the World Bank Group, established the Open Budgets Portal, a repository for budget data worldwide. So far, 13 countries have posted their entire public spending datasets online — including Togo, the first fragile state to do so.

In 2011, World Bank helped Moldova become the first country in central Europe to launch an open data portal and put its expenditures online. Now the public and media can access more than 700 datasets, and are asking for more.

In Nigeria, a startup called Budgit is doing the same thing. Not many Nigerians are interested in the National Budget or other government financial document, they think its too technical, or too much to read, but BudgIT is a creative start-up driven to retell the Nigerian budget and public data in a finer detail across every literacy span with aim to stimulate citizens interests around public data and hence trigger discussions towards better governance. The Nigerian government has come to understand that giving information to the people is actually the right way to go and so they make the budgets available for BudgIT to creatively retell it.

The original epicenter of the Arab Spring, Tunisia, recently passed a new constitution and is developing the first open budget data portal in the Middle East and North Africa. Tunisia has taken steps towards citizen engagement by developing a citizens’ budget and civil society-led platforms such as Marsoum41, to support freedom of information requests, including via mobile.

Using technology to improve services

Countries also are tapping into technology to improve public and private services. Estonia is famous for building an information technology infrastructure that has permitted widespread use of electronic services — everything from filing taxes online to filling doctors’ drug prescriptions.

In La Paz, Bolivia, a citizen feedback system known as OnTrack allows residents of one of the city’s marginalized neighborhoods to send a text message on their mobile phones to provide feedback, make suggestions, or report a problem related to public services.

In Pakistan, government departments in Punjab are using smart phones to collect real-time data on the activities of government field staff — including photos and geo-tags — to help reduce absenteeism and lax performance.

Good governance = good economics

These are just a few examples of the steps countries are taking to improve services and become more transparent. Awareness is growing that good governance is good economics. This perception is backed by research suggesting a strong relationship between effective government institutions and economic growth.

Good governance is vital to ending extreme poverty. With greater transparency and accountability, citizens can enjoy more effective health and education services, and a dynamic private sector can create good jobs to allow millions of people to lift themselves out of poverty.

Clearly, many challenges remain in fighting corruption and promoting good governance.

A private jet seized weekend by South African authorities with a stack of $10 million in cash meant for arms purchase, belongs to the head of the Nigerian Christian community, the aviation ministry confirmed Tuesday.

Ayo Oritsejafor, the president of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, had however leased the jet to another party, a top official of the ministry told PREMIUM TIMES, meaning Mr. Oritsejafor had no control over the use of the aircraft.

Mr. Oritsejafor’s church also confirmed the ownership in a separate statement Tuesday. The church said the pastor has a “residual interest” in Eagle Air, a company that manages the aircraft.

“On behalf of Pastor Oritsejafor, we can confirm that although he holds an interest in Eagle Air, the aircraft in question is not operated by Pastor Oritsejafor,” the statement by The Word of Life Bible Church said.

The aircraft was leased to, and is operated by Green Coast Produce Limited since August 2, the statement added.

In an earlier statement, Eagle Air Company admitted ownership of the jet held in South Africa for conveying $9.3 million cash for alleged arms deal.

Two Nigerians and an Israeli were caught with the money allegedly meant for buying and supplying weapons to the Nigeria intelligence services.

City Press, a South Africa-based newspaper had reported that the trio, who are already facing investigations, landed at Lanseria International Airport, Johannesburg on September 5, in the jet from Abuja with the money loaded in three suitcases.

The spokesperson for the South African Revenue Service, SARS, Adrian Luckay, confirmed that customs officers became suspicious when the passenger luggage were unloaded and scanned.

In a statement by its General Manager, Emmanuel Ohaeri, Eagle Air Company also claimed holding a “residual interest” in the aircraft, a Bombader Challenger 600, Registration No 808HG.

The company however said it leased the aircraft to Green Coast Produce Limited since August 2.

The statement said, “Our attention has been drawn to press reports in respect of an aircraft (Bombardier Challenger 600, Registration No N808HG) in which our company holds a residual interest.

“We wish to confirm that the said aircraft has since the 2nd of August 2014 been leased to and is operated by Green Coast Produce Limited.

The company and Mr. Ortisejafor’s church advised that all media enquiries in respect of the day-to-day operations of the aircraft be directed to the management of Green Coast Produce Limited.

In yet another statement, the management of Green Coast Produce Company Limited confirmed the aircraft had been leased to it, saying such transactions were normal in the aviation industry.

The company explained that the aircraft was in turn hired from it by one John Ishyaku and therefore would not be liable for any alleged infractions either in Nigeria or South Africa after the hire.

The company’s director, Shima Adun said in the statement that “On the 5th of September 2014 the aircraft was hired from us by a John Ishyaku. The charter to John Ishyaku was upon the following documented terms: (a) Depart Abuja-Johannesburg on the 5th of September 2014 (b) Return to Abuja on the 6th of September 2014 (c) To wait and return with the passengers”.

The company said as with every other aircraft charter company, its knowledge of the cargo carried on the aircraft was in accordance with the information provided by ABC Limited.

“All cargoes were accompanied by passenger who could readily defend the contents. We are not and cannot be privy to any alleged extraneous cargo transported on the aircraft other than that declared in the agreed terms of hire,” the firm said.

“We are not liable and cannot be construed as a party to any alleged infractions, either in Nigeria or South Africa as he case may be, after the hire of the aircraft,” it added.
