GEJ had enough time to modernise the armed forces . Its only a failure that blames his father/ancestors for his woes in life!
BH started with covert guerrila-style attacks. But now they launch full-blown attacks in broad daylight, because they were allowed to grow into a more conventional fighting force owing to this governments lackadaisical attitude. 10,000 deaths later, Nigerians are still ignorant. May God intervene.

Same old story by political soldiers.

Truth is that:

1, without sabotage, only a battalion of Nigerian soldiers armed with crude guns alone could have defeated Boko Haram.

2, some sets of Nigerians sabotage Nigeria army fight against Boko Haram.

3,the saboteurs do so because they share the same religious objective with Boko Haram for a country governed with sharia criminal codes.

4, these soldiers writing petition and granting interview to the media flout military regulations.

5, these soldiers petitioning foreign interests are doing so for the interest of APC and power shift, just like the interest of many Boko Haram fighters.

MAY EXCUSE FOR FAILURE NEVER DESIST FROM YOU AMEN.

What baffles me most, is d kind of sophisticated weapons these Service chiefs issued to their Body guards, Escorts and their Security officers
They use Tavor and Gpmg etc, but the Soldiers that are soppost to protect the lives and property of the poor masses, are given old FN-rifle and AK47. Why didn't they (the service chiefs) give their Security men the same weapons they are given to d soldiers to.
Re: Nigerian Soldier: "We Are Using Old Tanks Since 1976 To Fight Boko Haram" - BBC by SergeAlain: 3:49pm On Feb 13, 2015
The thing about interviewing individual soldiers is that you may be speaking to the worst coward of the entire army. While this guy is moaning, his mates have recaptured Madgali, Michika, Hong etc. and are closing in on Gwoza the gate way to sambisa.

On this same Nairaland you can go to pix on the African Military and see the true state of equipment of the Nigerian Armed forces.

The truth is that the Nigerian Army military has been neglected for over 20 years (mainly from IBB's time). At the start of this conflict, the Army had no special forces per se, No significant terror/anti insurgency training, little or no real combat experience (since most of the Liberia/Sierra leone Veterans have left the service.
There are many things GEJ/ his generals could have done better. However, we can say the same of any inexperienced/unprepared army going into a battle from the US (in Vietnam) to the Russians (in Afghanistan and Chechnya). Even during the Liberia war, there were many grievous mistakes but it was a military regime and there was also no social media so information did not get to us in Nigeria. Today every mistake is exposed in the harsh glare of sunlight.

For those who are sworn GEJ enemies, this is a stick to GEJ/PDP/ FG with. But this doesn't really matter because even if the war was progressing well these persons would still see nothing good about GEJ. For those who are genuinely concerned it is important to note that GMB will not go to the war front himself, he will rely on these same generals and soldiers. If he has to import equipment, it will still take money and time. There is no magic to these things.

Yeah and when the soldiers ask proper equipment and support they're executed like those units of 111 SF divison recently.

I'm fearing for our army.

You can listen to the conversation here https://soundcloud.com/bbc-world-service/the-fight-against-boko-haram-a-nigerian-soldier-speaks-out?ocid=socialflow_twitter
These are some of the conversations i wrote down.
BBC journalist asked "when Boko Haram dislodged you, where did you go?"
he said they went back, reinforced and went back again. They requested for reinforcement and they sent 20 men but they refused to come due to lack of weapons they don't have. The 20 men were dismissed from the army. He said they have requested for weapons but in many cases have been refused. He said many women in his barracks are windows, they are suffering. He said Boko Haram fighters are using AA(Anti-Aircraft), RPGs and many support weapons. He said the gun they are using is Kalashnikov(AK-47) while old tanks since 1976. The weapons are very, very old he told the BBC journalist.
BBC journalist asked if the Boko Haram are plenty? He said yes they are, the army of 116 soldiers will attack Boko Haram of about 3,000 at that day, that there is a problem. He said that the enemy strength of last year was about 10,000 while his own strength is 400 - 500 and any attack they come they must defeat us due to lack of support weapons he said.
BBC journalist asked him if he could defeat Boko Haram at any time?
he said "Yes, he is a soldier he can do better but logistic fail, weapons fail, morale fail".
BBC journalist asked him of his senior officers, if they are angry of the situation?
he said: "I can't say so, they are not thinking of the soldiers but themselves, i like Nigeria, it is my country i never have any other country to go".
BBC journalist asked him if he will go and fight if necessary?
he said: "Yes, if they bring the necessary things he will, this is my country i can never run to any foolish , let them do the right thing at the right time, we soldiers believe we can do more than what they can do to us";
BBC journalist asked him about the security chief saying they can get rid of Boko Haram within 8 weeks if he agrees?
he said: "kai! I never been agree, i can look but i never blame i never dream that in my mind. Things are wrong that is what i am telling you, that's the truth"

I have personally spoken to more than 20 soldiers, many of which are returnee combatant, paramedic or support engineers. This report is 100% in consonance with their accounts. They are restricted to the use of hand weapons strictly while they've got heavier weapons. Their AKs are old and rusty. Even more saddening is the fact that they're rationed bullets! They only get 1 or 2 magazines for their operations. That's a paltry 60 bullets! "A suicidal mission!", he lamented. "Honestly, I do not know how I survived 1yr and 3months in Borno!".
Only 2 weeks ago, a colleagues brother-in-law died. They ran out of bullets while defending themselves against a BH attack. All 24 soldiers were "murdered", avoidably! The news never made it to mainstream media. They were all "dignified" with a mass burial.

Sadly, the Nigeria soldier has got no advocate to speak it's cause. When they're forced to speak or act, they get court-martialed! Sad.

Spare a thought for the Nigerian soldier.

One can never recover yesterday. No one can change yesterday.

So deal with the present.

And plan for the future.

If it ain't broken, don't fix it. But everyone knew the air was funky and someone promised fresh air.

So why all the excuses?

How can nigerians read this fabricated news and believe it without objectivity.
Is it not on nairaland that I've seen state of the art tanks, gunship helicopters and military hardwares used by Nigeria soldiers.
What about the air bombing by our air force, is it 1976 helicopters too?
Some people can say rubbish.
Has any one googled Nigeria military hardware and strength to know the number of soldiers in our army alone.
The reason bh is fighting strong is there ability to hide among civilians making it difficult for an open war
Now u can see progress since our neighbours began to cooperate and deny them refuge
Nigerians shd atimes think with their brains and stop believing crap.
That soldier posting that rubbish is downplaying Nigeria

It tells you that after the election, even if the Army chooses to stand behind Jonathan should he lose, there will be dissident soldiers that will join the Buhari camp to fight, what else is civil war?
The division created by Jonathan is unprecedented in the history of this nation, shame on him.

Boko haram has back fired, he will be surprised how his politicizing the military will back fire too.

The U.S military trained Iraqi Army, sold and gave to them the best of weapons. Guess what happened when ISIS came? They almost took over the country in a few weeks. The US Army had to come in, along side their friends, with the best of fighter jets to help dislodge ISIS. Guess what? After all the billions spent and the thousands of air strikes against ISIS, they are yet to be dislodged.
The US and it allies spent over a trillion dollar in Afghan but couldn't win the Taliban.

Let's give NA a chance. We can't keep insulting then and hope they'll wanna die for us. We should know that salary and allowances are not enough motivation for soldiers in a real war but patriotism. This is not peace keeping, neither is it really a conventional war. Let not worsen their state of their morals with our posts, the service chiefs included.

In the past, northern leaders especially-and Buhari inclusive- were directly or indirectly motivating those boys, and to the contrary demoralizing the NA. Some others that could help didn't help, cos of political interests; while some were for religious reasons, sympathetic to the course of boko. Now things have gone out of hand and we're facing the consequences. Everyone of us, including the Northern leaders, and ppl those that were sabotaging or sympathizing,Jona, past presidents, media, service chiefs etc one way or the other, will facing the consequences of our actions and inactions and will still face till God knows when. Let work together to cut the days and consequences short.

And lastly, for Buhari(or whosoever) to try to simplify the causes for the dragging of this war against BH to Jona and corruption, is to either be totally oblivious of reality or to simply be mischievous. And I'm still wondering why no one has asked him what he meant by fighting Boko haram is fight the north; why no one has asked him if he'll treat them like Niger Delta militants were treated i.e by giving Amnesty as he went about admonishing Jona months back.

BBC & CNN should face their own problems & leave us alone, what a silly interview from an Hausa soldier whose aim is to black mail GEJ, too bad that we are living in a country where by d enemies of Nigeria are Nigerians themselves. I live in jos & I do sea deadly weapons that do leave jos rukuba barracks to Maiduguri, jets armoured tanks & guns purchased currently from Russia & China nko? we will defeat boko haram when Hausa soldiers repent from betraying Nigeria & face their work. quote me anywhere, we have more than enough to destroy boko haram in two weeks but Hausa soldiers why? beside which weapon did buhari buy to Nigeria army?

It's convenient but disingenuous to blame former leaders when GEJ has spent 5 years in office and spent more than $10 billion on defence without any appreciable result. You should ask where did all the money go.
