CyberWolf: http://okgist.com.ng/blog/2013/09/after-15-years-imo-state-university-graduates-first-set-55-medical-doctors/ At last, the Imo State University Teaching Hospital Orlu, has finally graduated 55 of its fifth set of medical doctors, fifteen years after. Okgist gathered that the fresh medical graduands had spent not less than 15 years at the medical institution due to the period of non-accreditation of the medical programme as well as strikes. At the oath-taking ceremony yesterday, a member of the Federal House of Representatives, Jerry Alagbaso, who chaired the event, had challenged the new medical doctors to be good ambassadors of their alma-mater and uphold the ethics of the profession. The law maker admonished them to be religious in discharging their professional obligations saying “bear in mind that you have the supreme task of saving lives first before any other thing.” Alagbaso, applauded the Chief Medical Director of IMSUTH, Dr. Chijioke Nzewuihe, management of both Imo State University and IMSUTH for making the graduation of the doctors a reality. Vice Chancellor of IMSU, Prof. Ukachukwu Awuzie, in his speech, had expressed satisfaction with the graduating doctors for persevering to the end. Awuzie also appreciated their parents for toiling day and night to make the dreams of their children come through. The Chief Medical Director of IMSUTH, Dr. Chijioke Nzewuihe, described the graduation of the doctors as historic and unique, stating, “under my administration, two sets of doctors have been turned out.” Nzewuihe said that the target of IMSUTH is to embark on programmes and services that will make the institution a centre of excellence and promised to give his best towards the objective. High points of the colourful ceremony were the formal induction of the 55 new doctors after their professional oath. |

CyberWolf: Nigerian medical doctors and researchers have been challenged to dig deeper into finding a cure for the Ebola disease rather than wait on the western world for a solution. Imo state Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha gave the charge at the swearing-in /induction ceremony of the 6th set of Imo State University medical doctors held at the University Teaching Hospital (IMSUTH) auditorium, Orlu. Owelle Okorocha who promised that the Imo Rescue Mission government will continue to provide the needed infrastructural and medical/ research equipments to the institution to ensure that medical doctors come out their best , urged the new doctors to see their calling into the medical profession as service to God and humanity. He congratulated the 56 grandaunts from the school and pledged a cash gift of N500, 00 to the overall best graduating student in medicine and surgery, Miss Olaedo Marcellina Izuagba as well as offered automatic employment to the young doctor upon the completion of her Housemanship. Earlier, the Chief Medical Director, Imo State University Teaching Hospital, Dr Fredrick Anolue the Imo Rescue government for the improved infrastructural development of the institution and for the industrial harmony in the University through the implementation of the CONHESS/CONMESS salary for health workers in the institution. Dr Anolue noted that the Protuex digital X-ray, Flourascopy, Computerized Tomography and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) will soon be operational in the Hospital and reaffirmed the genuine commitment of IMSUTH staff in playing its synergistic and complementary role with the University in training of various health professionals in Imo State. The CMD further disclosed plans by the institution to develop centres of excellence in Minimal Access Surgery, Neuro-surgery and radiology. He therefore appealed to government to assist in providing working tools for some of the staff already trained in Germany, India and South Africa to perform. The event which was chaired by the Pro Chancellor, Imo State University, Mazi Clement Owunna, featured the induction of the newly qualified medical doctors and presentation of Certificate of Merit and a cheque of N100, 000 to the overall best graduating medical student, Olaedo Mercellina Izuagba for outstanding performance. Present at the event were the Secretary to Government of Imo State, Prof Anthony Anwuka, Commissioner for Health, Dr Edward Ihejirika, the Vice Chancellor, Imo State University, Prof Alloy Awuzie, past Medical Directors of IMSUTH and other well meaning citizens of the State. http://www.imostateblog.com/2014/09/13/okorocha-challenges-medical-researchers-to-find-cure-for-ebola/ |

CyberWolf: The public is exceptionally guillible. Imo state has a state specialist hospital just 5 minutes drive from this Ochiedike diagnostic centre at Umuguma Owerri. Yet he left it ill equipped. He rather acquired land and set up a PRIVATE establishment which he registered with some Isreali partners and siphoned state funds. In order to create awareness Rochas more or less mandated different civil servants to obtain check ups at this centre at a subsidized rate. What he failed to tell the public is that this centre is not owned by Imo state government but rather belongs to Mrs Okorocha and partners. 1 Like |

@CyberWolf & Abagworo - Gov. Okorocha' Buddies; You needed to have asked how many relations of the graduating medics were able to reach the graduation ceremony because the road to IMSUTH is hardly motor-able. There are not less than 100,000 qualified applicants for university places from Imo state who do not have places; what stops Okorocha govt from creating more faculties of IMSU somewhere in Orlu district? It is ridiculous to state that any body can stop a govt from locating its university (IMSU) funded by government to another most convenient place which govt wants it? Okorocha is playing games for his private university. 1 Like |

ije30: Actually the Isrealis are just fronts. They are partners , the major financier is Mrs Okorocha/Rochas. With some contribution albeit meagre from the Isrealis. It is a 100% private owned profit driven venture that has NOTHING to do with Imo state government apart from the fact that her funds were stolen to execute it. It makes me sad to see the truth being distorted. 1 Like |

There is a state specialist hospital in Umuguma Owerri . It has no CT scan, MRI, Dialysis machine, Mammography etc, some of the specialist staff are owed salary for months. What is the rationale of setting up a centre that has gulped billions while just 5minutes away your state hospital lies neglected. 1 Like |

The dialysis center is owned by the imo state govt.
