Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola (SAN) has said that the fear of losing the forthcoming elections informed People’s Democratic Party (PDP) objection to the use of the Card Readers introduced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to curb electoral rigging in the country.

Fashola stated this yesterday during the gubernatorial campaign rally of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at Ilasan in Eti-Osa Local Government Area of the state.

The governor, while addressing party faithful at the rally, said the PDP’s stance against the use of the card has placed a moral burden on the PDP-led government since the proposal by INEC) to use the card was funded by the Federal Government.

Fashola said, “The PDP-led government is afraid of defeat that is why they are kicking against the use of card reader. Jonathan’s government funded and promoted the idea of PVC when INEC proposed it. Now, having realised that it will be difficult for them to rig the election if the card is used, the party want to change the rules at the middle of the game. It is not possible. Card reader will help prevent rigging.”

The governor also took a swipe at the PDP governorship candidate in Lagos, Mr. Jimi Agbaje over his comment on a live television programme in which he reportedly said the entire Lagos landmass belongs to the Federal Government.

The source credibility is questionable though.

A card reader is not an invention that dropped from heaven. . A card reader is an ELECTRONIC DEVICE that can easily be PROGRAMMED, SIMULATED or INDUCED through electronic commands to arrive at certain answers. Simply put; this device being touted as the end of rigging, can be the ultimate rigger depending on who is manipulating it. And with Jegas role under serious scrutiny , PDP is throwing up valid questions.

I partially agree with ur first statement but w have to start one day and from somewia and if it's properly done and monitored,d process will go smoothly without any problem. Now d card readers have been tested and worked fine,so why d fear again??

This is the reason why we can never progress in this country, because everything in this country is either politicised, or turned into an ethnic or religous issue. People pointed out earlier that INEC was ill prepared for Feb 14th polls, APC took it upon themselves to posit for INEC, their preparedness.today, weeks later, we all know better.PDP today has taken a stand as regards this PVC and nobody wants to take a critical reasoning on what they are projecting. You cannot promote the use of PVC as an anti-virus for rigging and still introduce a human interface in the process and still claim there wont be rigging. let me make it clear here as i take same stand with PDP on this issue, once the idea of INCIDENCE FORM which INEC is talking about is still allowed in this election, then there will be a massive rigging and the winner will be a case of who outrigs who.if we are to use PVC readers, then it should be 100% so nothing like incidence form should come in.

Rigging is in the DNA of PDP.
