that I would be the head of state. And I was.

Twenty months after, same colleagues who invited me
changed their minds. Some claimed part of what they
said when they took over power was that I had become
“too rigid, too uncompromising and arrogated
knowledge of problems and solutions to yourself and
my late deputy, Idiagbon.

Well, I think Nigerians had better identify those who did
that and interview them so that they can tell what
happened. From my own point of view, I was the
chairman of the three councils, which, by change of the
constitution, were in charge of the country. They were
the Supreme Military Council, the Executive Council and
the National Council of State. I was the chairman of all.

Maybe when you interview those who were part of the
coup, they will tell you my rigidity and whether I
worked outside those organs: the Supreme Military
Council, the Council of State and the Council of
Ministers.

Yes, there are many instances. You might want to verify this from Gen. Buhari, he was not the initiator of that coup that brought him in as Head of State, it was Gen. Ibrahim Bako and Babangida that initiated it. But because they wanted a credible figure as a face, he was brought in. He did not know the genesis of that coup. He was not quite aware of the original idea behind the coup and that was why when he decided to make a change, he was forced to step aside. So, if this could happen to a whole Gen. Buhari, who was supposedly the leader of a coup, it shows how many soldiers can be brought in that way.

Does that mean overthrowing Shagari’s government was IBB’s idea?

It was the idea of late Gen. Bako and IBB. Buhari was only brought in because they needed a face with integrity.

Gen. Yakubu Gowon was not part of the coup that brought him in. He was a decent man. Nigerians like to play what the Yoruba people call bojuboju; they bring a figure with integrity to cover up their real intention; the real intention of politicians in uniform who have found cheap party. Many elements of them are in our partisan politics today.

That means such heads of states were under the control of the coup plotters that installed them.

We all know it wasn't Buhari that plotted the coup (Well at least the more informed ones among us), so it's not a lie.
He has also not said plotting coups are a good thing.
Regardless of how bad the Shagari administration was (And it was very bad. . almost like GEJ's), it should have been allowed to "reform itself"

But GMB was placed in a tough situation. The coup had been carried out. he made a decision (as the most senior person) to accept the position and try to make the best of a bad situation and was very willing to oversee a transition back to a civilian rule (ask your grand-parents to explain). Whether he should have refused the position to wash his hands of the coup is up for discussion. Tough call considering the terrain then.

All in all;

(1) Don't twist facts. he DID NOT plot the coup

(2) He has taken responsibility for whatever occured in hs admin. When will GEJ start taking responsibility for anything? In Otuoke maybe.
