What Is So Special About Igbo Girls?? by Suspect33(m): 6:51pm On Mar 30, 2015
Jst last month a frnd of mine went to his fiancee's hometown in anambra state for introduction, nd after the introduction, he was given a list of items to buy in accordance wit dia tradition.... Buying those items cost more than 350,000.......

Lst 2 week he went again to gve dem d items, so as to hasten the wedding plans, to cut it short, der told him dat the bride price was 1.2million bt der decided to reduce it to 1 million because of d present condition of d country..... He told dem he cant pay such amount, nd der said der will not gve him dia daughter, dat if he dnt hav money he should go nd marry frm oda tribes.....

My question nw is dat, WHAT IS SO SPECIAL ABOUT THE IGBO... because dis hav happened to three of my friends nd am dating an igbo girl..... AM NID ANSWERS PLs

This isn't true. ...as in big fat lie! No town in Anambra collects that amount. The items bought can be upto that amount but the family asking for 1m as bride price? In Awka South where i come from the bride price is 10k

It's worse when the lady is a graduate.

That's seriously a part of our tradition I'm not happy about..

Well, if ur friend feels she is worth that lot, then he should go ahead and pay... if not tell him to check

Mr man stop peddling falsehood as though it's fact. There's no where in Igbo land where a woman's dowry is up to a million. It's not even up to a 100K. You may say other marital rites could be up to a million but not the dowry. Please get your facts right.

LOL one of my friends who used to be on NL ran away from igbo girls specifically because of this their culture and their attitude towards wealth.
See their mouth like "If you don't have money go and marry from other tribes". Issue with that is that it doesn't end at marriage. That culture continually pits up people by their continued ability to drop cash, so it is not even about borrow to marry.

For guys like us, it's not that we don't have money. It is that we don't have THAT KIND of money to waste on one crap called TRADITION.
So because I want one traditionalist to be happy at me, I will excavate my RRSP account? Burn up the money I was planning on investing in things that would have yielded "the family as a whole" more benefits over pointless trivialties?

If it's not about "buying/selling out daughter", fine! Why don't you, instead of asking me for all these pointless bullshit, why not ask to see my investment portfolio and there you can guage how finaincially responsible I am? But no, Igbo people will say anything that sounds good in their own ear to sha rob you of everything you own no matter how it affects your married life there-after.

Unnecessary pressure when it no longer becomes about you taking care of your family (which you can do) but also now trying to impress everyone in her village and helping each of them open shop on top your head. For why?
The girl is also usually in support of her family on these extortion matters, like one thread where the igbo fiance told one guy to "go and give the list to your sister, is she not rich?". undecided

Igbo girls are on their own abeg
