Buhari's Victory - Implication On Ghana's Psyche by Nobody: 10:19am On Apr 01, 2015
Exactly 32 years ago General Buhari in his reign instigated the Ghana Must Go policy which oversaw the deportation of about 700,000 west african foreigners (Mostly Ghanaians) from Nigeria, and till date, that name Ghana- must-go lives with us. Even in Europe and the Americas, you see Ghana –must –go bags.
That bag, which was what the fazed Ghanaians found handy when hurried out of the shores of Nigeria did not have a name until Buhari asked Ghana to go.

Ghana under Jerry Rawlings, did not like that treatment at all. The 1985 Ecowas Summit was so heated that Ghana’s foreign minister Obed Yao Asamoah was ready to tear Nigeria to shreds, literally speaking.

Fast-forward now to 32 years.

Has Buhari regretted his action?

Ghanaians do not want to remember this past. General Muhammadu Buhari could have forgotten. The Ashanti have not. Those that died in transit, those unsettled suddenly, those humiliated and those that left valuables behind.

History doth repeat itself they say. As Buhari comes back into power will Ghana-go-again? Will it cast a faint shadow of cold bilateral and suspect relationships between the 2 countries? Will Buhari gain social popularity and favor amidst the Ghanaians?

We find out as events unfolds. grin
