….APC set to form majority

The opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) has taken over the majority position in the Senate based on the results of the National Assembly elections released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Daily Trust checks revealed that APC won about 61 senate seats in five geo-political zones of the country excluding south east. The PDP has total of 48 senators in all which places it in the minority position.
Analysis of the results indicates that the APC won all the three senatorial seats in 15 states including Kano, Katsina, Jigawa, Borno, Lagos, Osun, Oyo, Kogi, Kwara, Kebbi, Niger, Sokoto and Zamfara states.
The party also won two senate seats from Yobe, Gombe, Nasarawa, Benue, Ondo and Ogun states while only one senator was elected on the APC platform from Edo State.
On its part, the PDP won three senatorial seats from Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Delta, Cross Rivers, Enugu, Imo, Anambra, Ebonyi, Bayelsa, Edo and Abia states all in the south east and south south zones.
The PDP also won one senate seat from Benue, Gombe, Kaduna, Yobe, FCT, Ondo, Ogun, Nasarawa.
From the south west, APC has 13 senators while PDP has 5. In the south south PDP has 17 senators while APC has 1.
All the 15 senate seats from the south east were won by the PDP while the APC won 13 seats in north central, PDP got 5.
In the north east, APC got 14 seats while the PDP got 5.
From the north west, APC won 20 senate seats while PDP won only 1 for the southern Kaduna senatorial district.
With the senate firmly in the hands of the APC, the party will now form the leadership ostensibly edging out Senate president David Mark and his deputy Ike Ekweremadu.
The duo were first elected in June 2007 and were again returned in June 2011.
This will be the first time a former senate president and his deputy will occupy the minority seat in the political history of the country, our correspondent reports.
Based on the relevant provisions of the 1999 Constitution and the Senate Standing Orders, the APC will also have the position of the senate leader, deputy senate leader, chief whip and deputy chief whip respectively.
Already, some of elected APC senators have begun lobbying for leadership positions, Daily Trust heard from top political sources yesterday.http://dailytrust.com.ng/daily/news/51008-mark-ekweremadu-to-lose-senate-positions

Very impressive winning a massive "61' from 5 geopolitical zones. That should be the nail on PDP's casket.
Bon voyage David Mark and Ekweremadu.

We are here to stay.

Would like to know which region the APC hopes to Zone the Senate President to. Hear it would have gone to SE, but sadly no senator from that region.

My bet is on NC again (Bukola Saraki).
