Yenagoa—Ijaw youth leaders from all over the Ijaw nation are to meet, Sunday, in Tuomo community, Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State, to review and take a position on the outcome of Saturday’s presidential election.

Spokesman of Ijaw Youth Council, IYC, worldwide, Mr. Eric Omare, in a statement in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, said that the meeting will also determine the next direction of the Ijaw struggle for self determination and resource control as enshrined in the Kaiama Declaration.

The decision to convene a national congress of all Ijaw youths, he said, was taken at an expanded executive council and consultative meeting comprising founders and former leaders of IYC, National and Zonal Executive Council members and key stakeholders held in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State on Wednesday.

He said: “We call on all Ijaw youths to be alert and ready to heed the call to the service of the Ijaw nation at this crucial time of our history and struggle for survival in the Nigerian state in the face of the grand conspiracy between the North and a section of the South-West to continue to suppress and exploit the resource of the Ijaw nation.”

IYC noted with regret that when President Jonathan, an Ijaw and from the South South won an internationally acclaimed free, fair and credible election in 2011, the North never at any time congratulated or supported President Jonathan.

“Instead they killed hundreds of innocent Nigerians and fought President Jonathan from the day he became the acting President of Nigeria in 2010 until the North conspired with a section of the South West to take over the Presidency from President Jonathan and the minorities of the South-South in an election fraught with irregularities.

“It is also significant to note that none of the Northern socio-cultural groups such as the Arewa Consultative Forum, ACF, and others congratulated or supported the administration of President Jonathan.

“Northerners created Boko Haram and blamed it on President Jonathan deliberately to incite the Northern populace against President Jonathan and make him unpopular in the 2015 election so as to take back power in a grand conspiracy with a section of the South West.

“Therefore, the April 5, 2015 meeting of all Ijaw youths will determine the position of the Ijaw youths on the 2015 Presidential election and our next line of action,” IYC said.

These guys again. I just hope when they start, it's only their region they will destroy because that's what the north did(according to them).

Well, Nigeria it's a dog eat dog federation. And has been so for the better part of the last 55 years. It's also more painful the older generation of Ijaws knew this fact, but chose to embrace immediate selfish gains over strategic planning for the future generations.

Fast forward: It's only pres. Jona knows why he waited months to the election to convene a CONFAB that would have addressed these concerns. And which is now confined to the dust bin of history. Now, It's gonna be a long and winding road to self determination. That said, the young Ijaws should keep the faith as they are not alone in the struggle.

Somebody tell these people that it is over already.

Nobody conspired with anybody to oust GEJ.

They should blame themselves for his loss

GEJ lost over 200k votes from Bayelsa alone because his people say they will only vote when they see MONEY.

They are to blame. They shot themselves in the leg. So all these campaign after election na eye service.

If the elections were fair and open in the SS, you would have seen the General muzzle up 15-30% of votes, else why were there wild jubilations in Uyo & PH after GMB was declared winner, in spite of the so called 96% GEJ vote. That is how much we ALL wanted Change - across board.

You guys do not want to test the resolve of the collective will of the Nigerian people. Your brother is in a better position to explain that to you guys. Respect yourselves!

Body don dey sweet these people small small.

Something about threats to blow up oil installations in the region that get me laughing: when you blow up a pipeline in your backyard, who's gonna be hardest hit with the environmental pollution that would ensue?? Your mothers and fathers can't fish or farm because the water bodies and farmlands would be devastated. Do the Asaris of this world understand this at all??

Neutralising threats from the ND requires placing more emphases on agriculture. That is the direction of the Buhari administration.

If this guy's wants to cause violence and bring about chaos. Let them know they've failed already. Because they will end up regretting their action like Godday Orubabe.
However I will appeal with them to join hand and co operate with Buhari as he brings about the Desired change.

There's nothing to deliberate on. GEJ had a golden opportunity to address the age long sufferings of his people in the Niger Delta but he botched it.

Here my people go again! Whatever outcome of the meeting is should address our support for the government of GMB when he takes over, and how we can increase our political awareness.

If not for work schedule, would have loved to attend this crucial meeting.

We must once in a while look at the bigger picture.

God bless all Ijaws!
God bless all Nigerians!
