By Favour Nnabugwu Russia had said it would export helicopters, Mil Mi-8/17 and Mi-24/35 helicopters to Nigeria, Angola, Mali and Sudan between this year and 2017. The head of the delegation for Russia’s arms exporter, Rosoboronexport, Mr Yury Demchenko yesterday, said that Russia wished to maintain exporting to the four countries.
“In 2016-2017, we plan to continue exporting these helicopters to Nigeria Angola, Mali and Sudan Our position in the African helicopter market is solid, so we are optimistic about the prospects of cultivating it further,” the delegation chief added.

Boko Haram Video Diversionary

Much as the Nigerian Armed Forces would have allowed the ranting of the Boko Haram in its latest video clip to go without formal reaction, it becomes necessary to make some comments to douse the apprehension of the Nigerian citizens concerning the outburst in the video clip.

It is important to state here that the video clip is diversionary and a desperate attempt by the dying Boko Haram sect to remain relevant.

The video clip is a complete show of weakness and sign that the end is near for the insurgents, hence it does not in any way poses threat to us.

The military is equally not deterred by the photoshop assemblage of worshippers at the supposed Eid-El Kabir prayer which is a replica of the video clip released by the sect in 2014.

This has cast aspersion to the credibility of the clip and therefore should be disregarded.

The Nigerian military is highly committed to making lives unbearable to the enemies of this nation wherever they are and would do all that is required within its rules of engagement to ensure that no part of Nigerian territory is conducive and habitable for insurgents and any other criminals to stay and operate.

The military believes so much in making statement through its action as evidenced in its past achievements rather than making noise in propaganda gimmick as exhibited by the Boko Haram elements in its recent video clip.

Empty vessel, they say, makes most sound. All threat to leadership of our nation, military and citizens, should be discountenanced in its entirety as military is capable of further decimating the insurgents and providing security for all.

While our operation will continue as planned with many terrorists already surrendering and may captives rescued, we advise all the remaining surviving Boko Haram terrorists to surrender now for their own good.

The military wishes to reiterate its commitment, determination and resilience in stamping out Boko Haram and other related criminals across the country.

We urge Nigerians not to bother about the antics of the degraded sect. Meeting their waterloo is surely imminent.

With the support and prayers from the good citizens of our great country the Armed Forces make bold to say that never again would insurgence be allowed to reign supreme in our fatherland.

We want to use this opportunity to once again remind all citizens to report any suspected person(s) or object to the nearest security agency for prompt action.

SNA Forces Raid Al-Shabaab Base Near Hudur Town

Somali government troops, with the support of AU soldiers have launched an offensive on a small village near Hudur town which is under the control of the Al Qaeda-affiliated Al Shabaab militants.

Confirming the attack, a senior Somali military officer said allied troops have managed to dislodge the militants from Busley area, around 50Km away from Hudur city, the regional capital of Bakol.

Col Dini Kahiye, the officer who is one of the leading army officials in the area, told Radio Shabelle by phone that they discovered SNA uniforms at the captured AL shabaab base.

There have been several clashes between Al Shabaab and Somali government troops in the region over the past few weeks, as the country's south west state promising to drive the militants out of its territory.

There is no single area or territory where Boko Haram flag is being hoisted- Nigerian Army says

In a series of tweets, the Acting Director Defence Information, Brig Gen. Rabe Abubakar, says despite recent videos showing members of the Boko Haram terrorist group praying in some parts in the North, the group has no hold on any territory in Nigeria. The army challenged anyone with a counter opinion to provide proof showing the sect members still holding on to some territories in Nigeria. More of his tweets after the cut…

Somali army, al-Shabaab fighting kills 5, injures 6

At least five people were killed and six others wounded after fighting between the Somali National Army (SNA) and al-Shabaab militants on Friday.

Violence broke out in el-Wak city in the southwestern Somali region of Gedo, close to the Kenyan border.

Idris Hasan, an eyewitness told Anadolu Agency: “The fighting began after al-Shabaab raided the SNA military base in town. We heard explosions and heavy gunfire followed by heavy fighting.”

Mohamed Hussien Alqadi, deputy chief of the Gedo region, told Anadolu Agency by phone that two SNA officers -- identified as Adan Koronto and Salah Diin -- were killed in the fighting. The remaining fatalities were civilians.

The militants have reportedly taken hold of el-Wak but the current situation remains unclear.

On Jan. 15 this year al-Shabaab attacked African Union peacekeeping forces in el-Ade town, near el-Wak.

Al-Shabaab claimed after that raid they had killed over 65 Kenyan military personal operating under AMISOM.

Elsewhere, a senior al-Shabaab commander was killed Friday in a joint operation carried out by Somali forces and AU troops in southern Somalia, AMISOM said.

AMISOM forces struck a training camp in Awdhegle town in the Lower Shebelle region where they killed several fighters and seized weapons, according to AMISOM spokesman, Col. Joe Kibet, who spoke to Somali news agency SONNA.

“The chief commander of al-Shabaab for the town, Mohamed Hassan, was killed, others injured and some weapons recovered by our forces and the SNA today,” Kibet said.

The SNA, backed by AU troops, has stepped up operations against al-Shabaab ahead of Somalia’s upcoming elections scheduled to take place at end of this year.

Al-Shabaab has also been behind deadly attacks in Kenya and Uganda, which both contribute troops to the AU peacekeeping force in Somalia.
