The helicopters and crew were rented from a Georgian logistics company in the last months of the GEJ administration, to improve logistics in the fight against BH.

PRESIDENT BUHARI FLAGS-OFF 8TH NAF GAMES

The President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Muhammadu Buhari has formally flagged-off the 8th Nigerian Air Force Games in Katsina State. The one-week sporting event is dubbed “KATSINA 2016” and the theme is “Sports: A Vital Tool for Professionalism in the NAF”. The objective is to promote physical fitness and comradeship among NAF personnel. A total of 13 sports are being competed for and about 670 personnel are participating in the Games.
Meanwhile President Muhammadu Buhari has used the occasion to once again applaud the contributions of the NAF to the various Internal Security (IS) Operations across the country, urging the personnel to remain focussed in discharging assigned statutory responsibilities with a high sense of commitment and patriotism to the nation. While noting that the hosting of the Games is apt as it would help to promote physical fitness and reawaken regimentation among personnel, the President, speaking through the Honourable Minister of Defence, Muhammad Mansur Dan-Ali, stated that the government is committed to providing the NAF with the needed logistics to enhance its operations and the welfare of the personnel.
The Honourable Minister of Youths and Sports Development, Barrister Solomon Dalung was on hand to use the occasion to urge youths to redirect their energy into positive ventures, especially sports. The Minister noted that the contributions by the Armed Forces and Security Agencies to sports development are invaluable and therefore expressed the optimism that the NAF Games should help to produce young talents that can be drawn into national teams to represent the country in future championship.
Earlier in his opening remarks, the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Mshl Sadique Abubakar stated that the 8th NAF Games is a further demonstration of the high premium that the Service places on promoting physical fitness among its personnel in order to achieve the national security objectives. “It is for this reason that the current NAF administration has embarked on provision of well-equipped gymnasium across NAF Units and Commands to promote fitness training,” said the Chief.
Highlights of the opening ceremony included lighting of the games torch, football match, combat display/taekwondo, tug of war and flypast by NAF L-39 ZA aircraft. The Special Guest of Honour, in the company of the CAS and other guests, also paid a courtesy call on the Emir of Katsina, His Royal Highness, Alhaji (Dr) Abdulmumini Kabir Usman CFR LLB.

oga bidexiii, what do you think happened to those rebels in Central african republic,2013 it was reported that the rebels where relocating to Nigeria to help their fellow jihadists, boko haram.
And i know some rebels from mali also joined bokoharam, after the where routed by a combined effort of mostly french and chadian military and a lil help from other african and foreign militaries.

Could it be they all came to nigeria, and were neutralized by the military,or joined alshabarb.

Links to foreign groups

Since 2004 small groups of Nigerian Islamists have traveled to northern Mali to train with extremists, from what would later become Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM). There have been indications that Boko Haram and AQIM have cooperated in more recent years, possibly involving arms procurement and training.

A number of Nigerian Islamists are suspected of having formed links with al-Shabaab in Somalia or AQIM and its offshoots. However, much remains unclear about all such links, and Boko Haram should in no way be considered a branch of these organisations, nor of Al-Qaeda in general.

And not only central African countries; neighbouring countries like Chad & Niger republic etc as strong affiliates and have being seeing in there jihadists campaign

Gentlemen, I agree that BHTs have just been recouping, waiting for favorable weather to re launch their onslaught.

Our armed forces or at least our CIC and CAS are over confident of our victory, and I don't see what this confidence is based on.

Our air assets are still too anemic to arrest the situation. While ISR has improved, our air strike capabilities, air attack and air mobile assault abilities leave a whole lot to be desired.

NAF just needs basic assets to overwhelm BHTs, these assets are fairly cheap, but are somehow impossible to procure for our armed forces.

Case in point, NAF brass, have been yapping about Pakistani turbo prop trainer the super Mushshak for ages now.

Really, how long does it take a country with 2 full blown insurgencies, to expedite this sort of procurement ?

FYI, the PAK army has like 200+ of these birds, and their air force has about 120.

But it will take NAF 3 years to get just a paltry 10 of the said aircraft.

Same with the Mi-35Ms from Russia. These birds are being delivered expeditiously to combat zones world over, but ours will linger, till BHTs invade maidugri again.

OK in the last administrations some military brass committed treason, by sabotaging our arms purchasing with their sadistic corrupt practices.

But now under our incorruptible CIC, and our able CAS, WHAT THE HECK IS TAKING SO LONG ??

Hmmm, even the americans are telling NA to step up the pressure on the BHTs. And you know they know what they are taking about.

They may choose not to help us much, but they can see what obtains in that battle space.

which means our military fought same seleke rebels that fought in CAR?.if this is true,we need to be more proactive by taking the fight to them before they get to us.

@doziex Tnks for ur contribution first but to be candid BH has being degraded and has we speak they don't av to ability to capture and hold a territory for long. Has as a result they av resulted to a gorilla and jungle war style due to raining season and thick vegetation they are taking advantage of. And has a means of survival because all source of logistic supply has being cut-off.

Now that his not say corruption has seriously affected our armed force performance in the N.E in past years and probably till now but it has greatly reduced. BBut with the new top brass/administration in the military I say BHT scourge will soon become a thing of the past, remember it's an ideology you are fighting it takes time to fade away.

Now talking about procurement in our military ; corruption is partly factors that affects our purchase period to take that much time. But don't let us forget how long did it take us to procure hardware like the REVA MRAPS, BTR -4E, LOGISTIC TRUCKS, BMP-1 & NAF RADAR..etc. Am of the same opinion with that with advernt of the JF 17 & MI35MS birds BHT as will be seriously pounded and that is not say the NAF his not trying with the assets on ground which is efficiently used. For the JF 17 I think we should except them these month probably in the or after the IDEAS 2016
Expo show. For the various platform helos we r expecting from Russia, only two will be delivered these year and the rest will be delivered over the years ;"probably till 2018".

I want to correct what you said about :" will it take 3yrs to purchase 10 birds". That is not true.

Talking about procurement there are many factors (international laws) limiting the sales of these hardware that we don't know.

In conclusion BHT is taking advantage of the vegetation to hide and seek, popularly called gorilla to hit the front line troops and get logistics by all means, few days ago 5 soldiers where killed, 19 injured which include soldiers & vigilantes .The vegetation is also limiting patrols and military vehicles getting stalked in the mud and these is where the airforce comes in with there aerial surveillance both man and unmanned platforms, but the airforce assets is limited and of recent there theatre of Operation has being increased to the middle belt, South -west and the Niger Delta. So let's hope that the JF and new Drone will be a game changer.

That will over stretching the armed forces but notwithstanding you've just made a valid point!

But there are limiting factor to take such; taking the fight to the enemy. In these part of the world/continent there will be some limiting factor of international diplomacy etc. Take for example in developed world where there is NATO, we do not av such umbrella here and the few we have are not properly armed and under financed.

If we av such umbrella there will be sharing of information & intelligence, then u can easily takle and take the fight to the enemy.

DEFENCE MINISTER BRIEFS PRESS ON ARMED FORCES REMEMBRANCE DAY CELEBRATION 2017

The Honourable Minister of Defence, Muhammad Mansur Dan-Ali yesterday held a ministerial press briefing to herald the commencement of activities scheduled for the Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebration 2017. The theme “Appreciating the Resilience of the Nigerian Armed Forces” is chosen to provide another unique opportunity to reflect and appreciate the sacrifices by members of the Armed Forces of Nigeria towards nation building, particularly in the ongoing fight against insurgency in the North East. The occasion also provided an opportunity to highlight major milestones recorded by the current democratic government in the effort to alleviate the plight of families of fallen heroes and military retirees. Notable feats in this regards include harmonization of military pensions, introduction of biometric identity card and expansion of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) to include retirees.

The newly launched Military Pensions Board identity card offers a number of benefits to the holders. Personal details and record of service of retirees are ingrained on the card carrying microchip thus eliminating the burden of having to carry paper documents around for Military Pension Verification Exercise, as well as the danger associated with the loss of these documents. The card, which was presented to some of the retirees at the occasion, can also be used on ATM and POS terminals to undertake diverse transactions.

Meanwhile, the HMOD has urged corporate organizations and private individuals to identity with the forthcoming AFRDC celebration. Speaking at the occasion, the Defence Minister stated that “the Federal Government looks forward to every citizens, both in the public and private sectors, to appreciate the sacrifice, courage and patriotism of the Armed Forces by offering necessary support and contributions to the Year 2017 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebration.”

As usual, other activities lined up to commemorate the 2017 AFRDC include the Nigerian Legion Humanitarian Day, emblem launch, interdenominational church service, jumat prayers and wreath laying ceremony
