The mopol`s are not members if the armed forces, many people only think so because dey r trained by military personnel or soldiers.
Mopol are security personnel, they r like a special force arm if the police trained to do the dirty jobs.

An offering to Obama

Kenya and Ethiopia want to present the US President with a victory against the Islamists in Somalia as Amisom’s funding is threatened

The Ethiopian and Kenyan military hope to welcome President Barack Obama to Kenya by capturing the town of Bardhere from the Somali Islamist militia Al Haraka al Shabaab al Mujahideen. Some 3,000 Ethiopian troops, backed by the Kenya Army and Air Force and US drones, are expected soon to take the town, the only major urban centre the Islamist militia still holds.

Listen. Dont be in a hurry to dispute what I've said. I've discovered as regards history especially the Nigerian civil war, a lot of online sources render untrue accounts probably due to ethnic sentiments/leanings on both sides. A more reliable way is to read accounts by key participants in that war and not some hogwash written by someone with second hand motives. Nevertheless, I recommend you read Now a omoigui's essays on the civil. They give quite a balanced view of events in that war. Too bad I'm busy at the moment, I'd have sought it out for you.
and who assembled the ACC? both actors will still exaggerate the ACC. its God knows the truth.

The 2nd vehicle is a Streit MK II converted into a utility vehicle. Streit group Nigeria handles most of the Nigerian deliveries and configuration for the Police and military.

Some of the configured vehicles include everything from large fold down gun ports, small sliding gun port, enclosed gun turrets, open top turrets, night vision, and thermal camera systems.

US Refuses To Sell Weapons To Nigeria
By:   11:38 Pm, July 22, 2015 News

After a four-day official visit in the United States of America, President Muhammadu Buhari will be returning to Nigeria today with no pledge of concrete military assistance against Boko Haram terrorists from his hosts.

The US government told the Nigerian leader that its arms are tied by an American law, the Leahy Act, which prevents it from selling arms to countries with human rights abuse records.

President Buhari, who is returning home displeased, told the US government that the refusal by America to arm Nigerian troops because of “so-called human rights violations” and “unproven allegations,” would only help Boko Haram.

A global human rights watch group, Amnesty International, had recently accused the Nigerian military under former President Goodluck Jonathan of gross human rights abuses in the prosecution of the war on terrorists.

The Nigerian military forces had denied the allegation which President Buhari pledged to investigate.

Buhari “departs with little practical military assistance in his battle against the Islamist militants who have turned the northeast of his country into a bloody war zone,” the Associated Press (AP) reported on Wednesday.

The US government has vowed to help Nigeria defeat the insurgency but it is prohibited under law from sending weapons to countries that fail to tackle human rights abuses.

“Regretably, the blanket application of the Leahy Law by the United States on the grounds of unproven allegations of human rights violations levelled against our forces has denied us access to appropriate strategic weapons to prosecute the war,” Buhari said.

Addressing an audience of policy-makers, activists and academics in Washington, Buhari complained that Nigerian forces had been left “largely impotent” in the face of Boko Haram’s campaign of kidnapping and bombings.

“They do not possess the appropriate weapons and technology which we could have had if the so-called human rights violations had not been an obstacle,” he said.

“Unwittingly, and I dare say unintentionally, the application of the Leahy Law Amendment by the United States government has aided and abetted the Boko Haram terrorists.”

He appealed to both the White House and the US Congress to find a way around the law — introduced by Senator Patrick Leahy in 1997 — and to supply Nigerian troops with high-tech weapons under a deal “with minimal strings.”

Since 2009, Boko Haram has been trying to establish an Islamist breakaway state in a conflict that has seen 15,000 people killed and 1.5 million displaced.

The group’s brutality and in particular the mass kidnapping and enslavement of schoolgirls has shocked world opinion.

In June, rights watchdog Amnesty International said there was sufficient evidence to launch an investigation into senior Nigerian officers for war crimes.

In a 133-page report, the group blamed the army for the extrajudicial execution of 1,200 people and the torture or arbitrary detention of thousands more.

Buhari insists that the charges are not proven, but he has replaced his senior military commanders and has promised to investigate the allegations.

Peacekeeping: Nigerian Army Deploys 700 Troops To Liberia

The Nigerian Army on Friday deployed another batch of 700 officers and soldiers to Liberia on a peace keeping mission. The troops are expected to depart Nigeria for Liberia in a couple of days.

Addressing the troops during their passing out ceremony from the Nigerian Army Peacekeeping Centre, Jaji, Kaduna State, ahead of their departure to Liberia, Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant-General Tukur Buratai, warned them that the Nigerian Army would not tolerate any act of cowardice or professional negligence while carrying out their operations in Liberia.

General Buratai told the contingent to abide by the Rules of Engagement, exhibit braveness as professionals and to also respect the cultural sensitivity of the people of Liberia. He also reminded them of the United Nations’ zero tolerance on drug trafficking.

On his part, the Commandant of Nigerian Army Peacekeeping Centre, Major-General Imomotimi Birigeni, said that he had no doubt that the high level of enthusiasm and cohesion exhibited by the soldiers would reflect on their operational conduct.

He said that the troops had benefited from the mission’s special training which would enable them operate under general and unique conditions obtainable in Liberia.

The training, according to the authorities, was in line with the Nigerian Army Headquarters’ desire to ensure that troops receive the needed robust and theatre-specific pre-deployment training prior to their induction into peacekeeping missions.

Also in Jaji, the Army Chief told men of the Nigerian Army to take the fight against terror to the doorsteps of the dreaded Boko Haram sect and dislodge them, rather than waiting in defensive positions for the criminals to attack innocent citizens by surprise.

Speaking during the combined graduation ceremony of Basic Airborne Course 37 and Basic Rigger Course 23 of the Airborne Wing of the Nigerian Army School of Infantry, General Buratai challenged the troops to adopt offensive disposition and respond quickly and appropriately to all situations.

The Army Chief also said that his vision for the Nigerian Army is to have a professional responsive force capable of discharging its constitutional roles.

Troops recapture Dikwa in Borno from Boko Haram

BARELY two weeks after the appointment of new Service Chiefs, troops have recaptured Dikwa town in Borno State from Boko Haram insurgents.

The recapturing was attributed to concerted efforts by the Nigerian Air Force and the Nigerian Army.

A statement last night by the military said: “A combination of the Nigerian Air Force Alpha Jet and surveillance aircraft jointly destroyed three ambush points heavily fortified with vehicle-mounted Anti-Aircraft Guns.

“This paved the way for the Nigerian Army to move in and recapture the town with less resistance. Cordon and search operations are currently on-going in the town by the Nigerian Army.

The Director Public Relations of the Nigerian Air Force, Air Commodore Dele Alonge, confirmed the breakthrough by troops.

The statement said the Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Sadique Baba Abubakar has, concluded his tour of operational units to ascertain the state of equipment and morale of troops, especially those involved in the counter-insurgency operation against Boko Haram terrorist group in North-East Nigeria.

It added: “AVM Abubakar disclosed that the purpose of his visit was to obtain first-hand information about the operational readiness of the men and equipment with a view to enabling the NAF to re-equip and restrategize for operational efficiency and effectiveness.

“Units visited by the CAS include 64 Air Defence Group, Makurdi; 75 Strike Group, Yola; 97 Special Operational Group, Port-Harcourt and 99 Air Combat Training Group, Kainji.

Nigerian Troops Kill Boko Haram Militants Along Dikwa-Maiduguri Road

In compliance with the directive of Chief of Army Staff, Major General Tukur Yusuf Buratai, the Nigerian troops have increased the tempo of their offensive as they kill many terrorists during a recent combat operation along Dikwa-Maiduguri Road in Borno State.

General Buratai while renaming the counter-insurgency operation to “Operaton Zaman Lafiya Dole,” had urged the troops not to wait for Boko Haram to attack but to take the battle to the insurgents’ hideout.

PRNigeria gathered that through a combine operation involving the ground troops and airforce, the Nigerian military mercilessly dealt devastating blow on the terrorists who could not escape during the encounter.

Some of the items recovered from the terrorists included vehicles heavily laden with Improvised Explosives Devices (IEDs), motorcycles, trucks mounted with Anti-Aircraft Guns, Anti-Aircraft Gun, General Purpose Machine, Gunbox of Anti-Aircraft Gun Ammunition and Rifles.

While reluctant to provide the exact figure of casualty from the operation, the spokesperson of the Nigerian Army, Colonel Sani Usman Kukasheka confirmed that recent military operations against the terrorists have been very successful as the terrorists are on the run.

Colonel Kukasheka said that in one of the recent operations, the military attacked terrorists’ logistics base where IED was planted with connected wires traced to a kingpin’s residence.

He said due to recent concerted efforts, roads and towns hitherto being held by Boko Haram terrorists and laced with mines such as Biu-Buni Yadi-Damaturu and Biu-Sabon Gari-Damboa roads were liberated and cleared of mines and made safe for public usage.
