Liberian Captain Completes Intensive Military Training in Nigeria Captain Stephen T. Tarplah of the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL) has completed a 21-week intensive training in Kaduna, the Federal Republic of Nigeria. A release from the Liberian Embassy in Abuja says a total of 172 African soldiers assembled for the 21 weeks’ training which began on January 4, 2017. Rev. Tunde J. Spencer, the Political Counselor at the Liberian Embassy represented the Liberian Ambassador, Professor Al-Hassan Conteh, at a colorful ceremony which was recently held in Jaji, the State of Kaduna. The press release says Captain Tarplah was one of nine commanders of the rank of Captain and their equivalent from other countries outside Nigeria who graduated from the Armed Forces Command and Staff College (AFCSC) of Nigeria in Jaji. The other eight military international students came from Botswana, Cameron, Republic of Congo, The Gambia, Ghana, Niger and Sierra Leone. They joined their Nigerian counterparts from both the Nigerian Navy and Nigerian Air Force. The Nigerians, who numbered 163, comprised 91 Nigerian Army, 39 Nigerian Navy, 28 Nigerian Air Force, five non-military personnel from the Nigerian Intelligence Agency (NIA), Nigerian Defense Academy (NDA), Nigeria Prison Service (NPS), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA). Speaking at the graduation of Junior Course 83/2017, the Chief of Air Staff (CAS) who was the guest of honor said the objective of the course is to develop the professional knowledge and understanding of selected officers of the armed forces in order to prepare them for increasing responsibilities. The CAS, represented by the Chief of Policy and Plans, Headquarters, NAF, Air Vice Marshal James Gbum said, "For the past 21 weeks, you have been thoroughly subjected to various demanding tasks that exposed you to several presentations, lectures, discussions, exercises and even tours outside the college which have been carefully put together for you to imbibe what General Douglas MacAuthur, a former Chief of Staff of the United States Army called 'The Cardinal Virtues of a Soldier'. He added, "For members of the Nigerian armed forces, your sense of judgment in applying these skills would even be more apparent now that we are confronting a lot of internal security challenges in the country, mist especially the menace of Book Haram and the renewed militancy in the Nigerian Delta." He urged them to brace up to the likely challenges and measure up to them with courage, conviction and in the midst professional manner. For his part, the Commandant of the College, Air Vice Marshal Suleiman Dambo, said the course is aimed at developing the command, analytical and communication skills of the students in order to equip them to effectively operate during single a service, combined or joint and multi-agency operations. He added: "There had not been a comprehensive review of the college curriculum since 2002, hence the college embarked on a comprehensive review from 2016 to January 2017 which has since been completed and provisional approval has been granted by the Defense Headquarters. He stated that it is envisaged that the new curricula will better equip future graduates of the college with requisite professional military knowledge as well as the command and staff skills to handle contemporary operational requirements not only in Nigeria but anywhere in the world. Libyan Air Force receives four new Su-27 fighter jets The Libyan Air Force has reportedly taken delivery of four new Russian-made Su-27 Flanker fighter aircraft from an undisclosed country. An unnamed Libyan official was quoted by official pro HoR LANA news agency as saying that informed military sources in the Libyan National Army (LNA) confirmed on 5 January that four new Sukhoi fighter jets effectively joined the squadrons of the Libyan Air Force. The aircraft are capable of covering a distance of 3,530km with a maximum speed of 2,500kph. It is also claimed they are capable of staying airborne for a long duration, and can manoeuvre and re-attack up to three times. They are expected to augment LNA's capabilities in the fight against extremist and terrorist militias across the country. As Libya is not listed as an official buyer of the Sukhoi Su-27, it is believed to have acquired second-hand or refurbished fighters from other countries. However, the LNA did not disclose whether the jets were new, or loaned from neighbouring states or allies, or an addition of upgraded old aircraft to the existing Air Force squadrons. Meanwhile, Libya Herald reported that there is no independent confirmation of the delivery of the fighters. "The new Su-27 fighter jets are expected to augment LNA's capabilities in the fight against extremist and terrorist militias across the country." The delivery comes as the Libyan Armed Forces pledge to intensify airstrikes on all vital infrastructure in the city of Misrata. General Khalifa Haftar spokesman colonel Mohamed Hejazy was quoted by the Financial Times as saying: "Misurata's ports are used to transfer terrorist and extremist elements, whether Libyan or foreign. "Misurata is the most dangerous threat to the Libyan state today. "Therefore, all institutions in Misurata, whether its ports or airport, constitute threats against Libyans." According to Libya Herald, the Libyan Air Force already threatened to shoot down any Sudanese or Turkish Military or civilian aircraft that enters its airspace. This warning came a day after bombing a Greek-operated oil tanker, killing two crew members http://www.airforce-technology.com/news/newslibyan-air-force-receives-four-new-su-27-fighter-jets-4483501 |

Lasa wen dey blind [/quote] Am proud of these 5 mins video, nice documentation on life of a soldier in the front line and what they face. @fynline I like the "music word"../ the " lasa wen dey blind" : I think the soldier RSM meant the lasa instead of laser beam can't be seeing with a naked eye. and these little equipment goes a long way during fire fight superiority with the enemy. and I think not only SF soldiers should be equipped with such . our infantry soldiers should be equipped at least 20-30 at every plantoon level, I pray we will get there. |

HUMANITARIAN SUPPORT: NAF AIRLIFTS DONATED FOOD ITEMS TO MAIDUGURI The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has airlifted 4,000 cartons of Indomie Noodles to Maiduguiri ahead of its plans to ensure that the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the North East benefit maximally from the donated items. The Indomie Noodles, worth over 10 million Naira, were recently donated by Tolaram Africa Enterprise, in recognition of the remarkable support and intervention of the NAF to the IDPs, especially in the area of nutritional needs. It is worthy of note that, in addition to the current NAF healthcare delivery programme at the IDP camps in Bama and Dalori, the NAF has instituted an arrangement whereby malnourished children in the IDP camps are being nurtured via a special diet programme. The NAF medical personnel would use the donated noodles to provide feeding to patients, especially children at its Emergency Hospitals for IDPs at Bama and Dalori Camps, where many amazing recoveries of previously malnourished children had already been witnessed. It is recalled that, while receiving the donated items on behalf of the NAF, the Chief of Policy and Plans, Air Vice Marshal James Gbum, who represented the CAS at the occasion, had promised that the NAF would immediately convey the items to the beneficiaries.
