Troops Arrest 33 Food Suppliers of Boko Haram

The Nigerian troops conducting intensive patrols and vigilant operations in the North-east have continued to yield positive results with the arrest of 33 suspected food suppliers to Boko Haram terrorists in the Damboa axis around Azir-Wajiroko road, Borno State.

This was disclosed in a statement issued Wednesday by the Director of Army Public Relations, Col. Sani Usman.
Usman revealed that the 33 suspected Boko Haram accomplices were arrested with large quantities of food meant for Boko Haram terrorists at Korode.

According to him, nine of the 33 suspects were from Korode, five from Auma, 10 from Geargube,  four from Kausautaya, four from Bulbul and one from Dolomi villages.
Although some of the suspects claimed to be traders, he said they did not deny buying and selling food items to the terrorists.

“Interrogation is still ongoing to further unravel the level of involvement of the suspects,” he added.

In a related development, Usman said Nigerian troops during clearance operations of Boko Haram hideouts, have discovered and successfully destroyed improvised explosive devices (IEDs) planted by Boko Haram terrorists at Sandia village along Korode road.

He further disclosed that more men, women and children were rescued from the terrorists at Buduwa area along Bama axis.

“The rescued persons were part of those abducted by Boko Haram at Buduwa general area in Bama Local Government Area of Borno State which was earlier occupied by the terrorists,” he said.

The army spokesman said the Nigerian Army was trying hard to safeguard the rescued persons but was not taking anything for granted as some of them are suspected terrorists.

Oga Panzer i respect ur thoughts..Yes the hiluxes and landcruisers might not be APCs or LAVs but they still serve as transport vehicles for troops and ought to be considered for both upguning and upamouring..
Given the quantities of hiluxes and landcruisers in our military inventories which by far outnumber an other APCs in service,UPGUARDING should be considered..look at what the IAG did with the VR7 landcruiserOne of the greatest threats encountered by armored vehicles is IED attacks or blastattacks. Unless a vehicle's design has actually undergone live blast testing, it is very difficult to evaluate whether a vehicle's armor has been designed well. International Armored Group's VPAM BRV2009 VR7 certified Toyota Landcruiser 200Convoy has been tested against both ballistic and blast attacks by Beschussamt Mellrichstadt in Germany. The vehicle and simulated occupants fully survived the simultaneous detonation of DM51 German hand grenades, HG85 Swiss fragmentation grenades, DM31 anti-personnel mine and a 12.5kg PETN (17kg TNT equivalent) side blast attack without any deformation. All armored cars for sale by International Armored Group have their armor design derived from this vehicle. In addition to low profile light armored vehicles, IAG offers a wide range of armored personnel carriers (APCs) based on various truck chassis. The APCs all integrate a V-hull design and are designedto fill the gap between the much more expensive and heavy MRAPs and the low profile, light armored commercial vehicles. These include the Titan and Praetorian APC (Ford F-550 chassis), Predator APC (Ford F-350 chassis) and Jaws APC (Toyota Land Cruiser 200 chassis). All the APC's can be armored up to NIJ IV / CEN B7 level....
As for for armaments and installations of HMGs that should be left to NAEME..I think DICON should partner with foreign defence companies to standardize our landcruisers to LAVs

Nigerian Military Pushes for Final Defeat of Boko Haram Terrorists

The ongoing offensive against the Boko Haram terrorists in the North-east is gaining successful momentum with most of the camps falling, as the Nigerian military pushes for the final defeat of the terrorists.

He said the military in conjunction with other security agencies and other security stakeholders have placed adequate security measures to ensure the pupils and teachers’ safety and security. Already, he added, classes have commenced and the turnout was quite impressive.

Nigerian Army Gives Fat Officers 3 Months To Shape Up Or Get Sacked. grin grin grin grin

Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai, has given a three-month ultimatum to over-weight Army personnel to shape up or be shown the way out of the forces.

While fielding questions from newsmen after addressing the Chief of Army Staff’s third quarter conference which opened at the Army Headquarters, Abuja, yesterday, Buratai also renewed the military’s assurance to Nigerians that everything possible would be done to facilitate the rescue of the Chibok schoolgirls seized by Boko Haram terrorists in April 2014.

The COAS said over-weight soldiers, including officers, have been given till the end of December to shed the excess baggage or start planning for another career, because after that period those who could not comply will not be allowed to continue with the Army.

While explaining the level of effort put in by the military in their attempt to trace the missing schoolgirls, Buratai stated that the safety of the girls remains paramount to the military even as it prosecutes the counter-insurgency operation.

He said he would not rule out suggestions that the Chibok schoolgirls may still be held within Boko Haram secret camps in the Sambisa Forest.

According to him, “The issue of the Chibok girls is very crucial, we are making all efforts to clear the terrorists and after clearing them we will rescue the Chibok girls in one piece. I believe that the girls must be somewhere within the general area of the forest, but we are not yet sure exactly where they were kept.

“As soon as this is confirmed, we will attempt to see what we can do to bring them back in one piece. It is very crucial because their safety is very important. They could be somewhere else. So, we are taking this issue in piece-meal so that we are sure of where we are and how we are going about it and we believe that we can find a solution to it very soon.

“It is not an issue of the Army alone, it is a collective issue and the Air Force is there. Also working very hard is the Department of State Services. Our main concern is to provide the ground support to ensure that we do it very well. By and large, there is progress.”

Army arrests soldier training militants in Rivers, uncover arms cache

Lt.-Col. Timothy Opurum, Commanding Officer of 2 Brigade Garrison of the Nigerian Army, Port Harcourt, made this known to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Port Harcourt on Tuesday.

Opurum said the soldier, a member of 13-man -militant gang alleged to have been terrorising many communities in Rivers, deserted the army in 2002.

Based on intelligence reports, we carried out a sting operation where we captured 13 members militant gang including their notorious kingpin leader, simply known as Kenneth.

“We also arrested a soldier, who deserted the army in 2002 and specialised in training of militants in weapons handling and operational tactics.

“The soldier (names withheld), who is a Private, joined the army in 1998 and served in 331 Artillery Regiment Kalapanzi Barracks in Kaduna before he was declared missing in 2002.

“The soldier, who is related to the kingpin of the militant group, is still in our custody and will be released to prosecuting agencies after formal dismissal from the army,” he said.

Opurum said that troops raided the community on account of incessant cases of militancy, kidnapping, piracy, cultism and killings which occurred regularly in the area.

The commanding officer said that intelligence revealed that the community was not only serving as hideout for criminals but hoodlums were also storing caches of arms and ammunition in the area.

He said the raid was “highly successful” as arms and ammunitions were recovered by troops during the operation.

“However, some of the arms and ammunitions had already been moved by the militants before our troops arrived at the community.

“Twelve suspects excluding the deserter-soldier, the arms and ammunitions had been handed over to the state Directorate of Security Services (DSS) for further investigation and prosecution,” he said.

Opurum, who led the operation, however, denied allegation that troops opened fire on innocent fishermen and traders, and destroyed their wares during its operation in the community.

According to him, it is highly untrue that soldiers assaulted innocent civilians during the operation to mop up arms and criminality in Kula community.

“There was no case or cases of manhandling both on the part of civilians and on the suspects who were arrested over their involvement in gun running activities,” he said.

NAN recalls that the ruler of Opu-Kula in Akuku-Toru, Hope Opusingi, alleged that soldiers battered his people and destroyed property worth millions of Naira during the raid on his community.

Opusingi claimed that soldiers invaded his community “under the guise of carrying out a presidential directive against oil theft and attacked harmless elders and innocent fishing settlements.”

The monarch said the action by the army was an abuse of power and a gross violation of the right of his people. (NAN)
